I am looking to get an MP3 of a track by "Octopodes," called "Holding
out for a Hero." It is not available on Amazon MP3 nor on eMusic.
I've googled around and not found it elsewhere except on free MP3
download sites which I'm lyrie of trying. Can anyone suggest another
site where I can purchase or a safe free download site?
Thanks,
Jeff

I would say that both Cdex and WMP are good programs for ripping.  I do know
that with Cdex, you have to tell it that you want your tracks labeled,
whereas with WMmP (unless they've changed it) it'll do it right out of the
box!  But Cdex and WMP seem to be pretty straight-forward.

A friend of mine is in the market for an audio recorder, not very much the
high end stuff, but rather more like the Olympus DS30 or anything alike.
Any recommendations would be welcomed.

Thanks much.

The web address I sent you is what you want to use, as it is shown, exactly. I
ran the installation of the program I have, which works fine, and then ran
through the entire setup to verify it. The web address is what is displayed
when the download box is up on the desktop. All you have to do is copy the link
I sent to you into the address bar. When you click 'Enter', the download for
the mp3 direct cut should come up.

Are Mp3 direct cut and avs software the same thing?  If so, he program gave me
all kinds of extra files to download, and then I couldn't get the program to
speak at all.  I am using Window-eyes 7.52.  Are there any other programs which
split mp3 files?
Thanks.

Subject: Copying Audio CD's

First, I'm sorry if this message comes across more than once.  Is there a way
to copy an entire audio CD to another audio CD under Windows 7 without
extracting and reassembling tracks?  On my old computer, I generally did it
with an old version of Roxio, but I believe there was a way to also do it from
Windows explorer, but I can't find anything on my new Windows 7 computer.  If
not, can anyone recommend reliable but inexpensive alternatives?  I do have
Sound Forge and CD Architect, but don't see anything that will just create an
image and copy it to another CD.

Thanks for any ideas.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Re: Los Angeles radio question

2009-05-28 Thread Guy Mallard

I lived in SoCal for many years and was affiliated with KFWB. I still listen to
it regularly, even though a few years ago they changed their format from music
to news. The reason KNX does this is that they are both accessed through CBS
Player, which you can readily see on the player. KNX, or KCBS, originally
started CBS around 1905, and is still the CBS affiliate in LA. KCBS, Channel 2,
formerly KNXT, is the TV affiliate and KNX the radio affiliate. KFWB is still
on 980 AM but uses the CBS player for its online streaming. I hope this
explanation is not too difficult to understand.

Re: TV tuner info needed

2008-02-13 Thread Guy Mallard
Don-

ATSC format enables it to receive digital
broadcasting. Next year the US will switch from analog
to digital in order to gain additional band space for
other servics. In order to receive this format you
need either a satellite or cable TV capability or ATSC
tuner to receive TV from an on-the-air rooftop
antenna. If you do not have any of these there will be
made available an Analog to Digital converter 'box'.

In addition to the previous 16, I found abt 22 more.
I have a music collection of over 15,000 songs and
sometimes I overlook something.
Will send the list direct to your e-mail address.

The ones you can't, you could send them.

Re: Fw: looking for an old 1960'2 cd for my wife

2007-11-12 Thread Guy Mallard
Dan - Thanks for the reply. It sounds like you're
pretty well covered. I actually found four or five
more after I sent the first msg to you. My music
library consists of 15-20,000 songs, and sometimes I
overlook one or two.
Lesley was born with the name of Lesley Sue Goldstein
in NY. I met her when I lived in SoCal. She finally
got a spot in a Beach movie and the first day of
shooting started to feel bad. She thought it was just
from the sun. It turned out she had contracted German
Measels, and she wound up infecting the entire cast.
She had complications and had to stay in bed at home,
and missed going to Hawaii.
Let me know if I might be able to help with anything
else.

Re: comprehensive mp3 site?

2007-05-31 Thread Guy Mallard
Good for you Ken. That's the only music I have
anything to do with. Starting with the 70's, all of it
is either a poor attempt at remakes or just a bunch of
noise. I started in radio at the age of 14, and have
managed to collect a library of original music, as
well as to meet and get to know many of the artists
through the years.

Bruce - If you can't find anything, let me know; and
I'll design and custom-build one for you. The big
difference is that AM is more suseptible to any noise
interference source nearby, including TV sets and
electrical, and the clear extended range is shorter
than that of FM. Also, the audio response is somewhat
different. Guy Mallard [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Music data base needed

2005-12-29 Thread Guy Mallard
Hi Peter, Thanks for your e-mail.
I did some experimenting and finally devised an easy
system to use in cataloging.
I simply made a folder labeled Music File. Then
started a simple list, listing songs by each alphabet
letter. Also I added pertinent notes for each one
listing artist, CD number location, year originally
recorded, written by, and any other notes pertinent to
that particular song. This way I can also go to the
FIND on that particular folder, and also search for
artists by name as a cross-reference.
As you can imagine, this is a continuous ongoing
process, and really a labor of love. I still have
around over 6,000 more songs to catalog, burn to CD
for preservation from tapes, HDD,records, etc.
I managed to amass them since the early 50's when I
first started working at a radio station while I was
in Jr High school. I had also obtained my ham radio
and commercial licenses when I was 14 yrs old. I
played music from FL to SoCA and acquired them from
there, as well as used collections. Also assisted in
producing shows, where I met and got to know many of
the artists and producers, who personally gave me
copies and original demos they had made.
I have only Originals (with a few remakes here and
there, and some earlier 40's that were real big.Very
few after the 60's.
The DJ record hops I give are only in this category. I
just plan by request.

Jerry - rawavrecorder will do what you need. I have
been using it for the past six or seven years since it
first came out.
Go to www.rawavrecorder.homestead.com and download it
for free.

Hi Aman - Ywes, it plays while recording; and it is
not a demo, but a free program. I have been using it
for some time now. It converts to .wav format, which
can be converted to .mp3 if desired.

Randy - I use rawavrecorder. which will convert real
audio to .wav. Then if you want .mp3, you can use
dbPower Amp Music Converter.
If you can't find them, let me know and I will send
you the .exe programs for them to your e-mail address.

Re: CD Recorder

2004-11-12 Thread Guy Mallard
Andrea - Run a cable from the Output of the tape deck
to the Line In on your computer. Use the Record
function of a program named Media Jukebox to record
the sound and put it on your harddrive.
What I use is a homebuilt mixer that I run to the Line
In. That way I can hookup six different devices, and
use whichever one I choose.

Re: rwavrecorder

2004-08-29 Thread Guy Mallard
Hank - I sent that to you about 8 months ago when you
asked me about it. If you can't find it, I'll send you
the program files. They are only 4 files and the total
is only 128kb.

Kurt - All you have to do is click on the little
folder, or on file; and select where you have the RP
file stored on your HDD; and, when you activate the
PLAY icon, it will record the song while it is
playing. The saved result will be in WAV form for the
win media player in the destination folder you select
in rav.
