I've been looking for some kind of a menu map or reference for the Zoom
H2, but haven't found anything so far. Does someone on this list have
something like that, and if so, could he/she please send it to me?

Zoom H2

Hi,

Does someone have a menu map for the Zoom H2 recorder? I'm thinking of
purchasing an H2, and a description of the menus would help me a lot in
using the recorder without sighted assistance.

I don't know if you've played with the H2, but if not here are a
couple of
thoughts.
Personally I didn't particularly like mine because I found that
there was no
way to be absolutely certain that the thing was recording. The
buttons are
quite squishy, and unlike the H1, the record button flicks you between
record and record standby, so there's no way to be sure which mode
it's in.
Also the external mic preamps in the H2 are quite noisy. The
battery life
is also considerably less than the H1, about 4 hours for two AA cell
batteries. Having said all of that, the internal mics are very
nice, and if
you have a little bit of sight, or even a bit of light perception,
you may
not have the same issues with the H2 as I did.

Cheers.

Damian.

Hi Vicky,

There are quite a lot of predefined keyboard commands in the program.
For instance, you can get to the Options dialog by pressing the o key,
open the electronic program guide by pressing e, start recording the
current channel by pressing r, etc. However, You can also configure the
commands to your liking, and remove the ones you don't need. Feel free

I'm not 100% sure about that, but it should be OK as long as there are

How did you find your keyboard commands?

They are all listed in the Input section of the Options window.

Total Recorder 7.1 is now available

2008-10-26 Thread Jani Kinnunen

Hi,

Total Recorder 7.1 is now available from www.totalrecorder.com.
Here are the changes in this version:

Windows Vista 64-bit is fully supported with the introduction of the 64-bit
version of Total Recorder's kernel mode driver.
The user interface for working with tags has been redesigned. Support for
tags has also been extended with the following enhancements:

Support for artwork in tags.
Total Recorder can read ID3v2 tags for all versions (version 2.2, 2.3, and
2.4).
Ability to play multichannel audio files in stereo, provided that an
appropriate audio codec is installed.
Statistics, including the total duration and the total size for selected
files in a playlist, are now available.

Minor enhancements for the built-in scheduler, including the following:

Tooltips have been added to the list of scheduled jobs so that the main
characteristics of each job can be displayed without opening additional
dialog boxes.
The restriction where you could not schedule more than one job at the same
time has been removed.

Other minor enhancements.
Favorites are now supported by Total Recorder. Similar to the favorites you
use in a browser, such as Internet Explorer, you can do the following:

Add a file, playlist, or URL to your Favorites list.
Open an item from your Favorites list in Total Recorder.
Import and export favorites.
Maintain a history of favorites.
Play an audio file or a video file at a slower or faster speed than normal
while optionally preserving the original tone.
The process and the ability to capture a URL for background recording have
been enhanced.

New buttons have been added to the toolbar on the Sound Image panel.
Many other enhancements.

I found this fantastic and very accessible program, called River Past
Audio Converter, which will take audio from virtually anything and
encode it to virtually anything, as long as you have the appropriate
codecs to read or write the source and destination formats on your
system. The demo will only convert the first two minutes of the file,
but that was enough to make me want it. My only problem is I think
fifty dollars is a bit much for this. Has anyone any suggestion for
something that does the same thing that River Past does for maybe half
 the price?

Total Recorder V7.0 Will Be Released Soon

2007-11-01 Thread Jani Kinnunen
Hi,

I thought some people might be interested in the following pre-announcement.

Jani

Total Recorder V7.0 Will Be Released Soon!

High Criteria Inc., the world leader in computer audio recording systems,
announces the upcoming release of Total Recorder Version 7.0 and New Version
of
Video Add-on!

Total Recorder v7.0 is now becoming more powerful functionally and obtaining
more new features for users. New Total Recorder's kernel mode Driver offers
the following solutions:

list of 2 items
. Total Recorder is now fully compatible with Windows Vista (without any
limitations).

. There is no sound distortion when recording the sound from applications,
which involve the use of DirectSound (for instance, Skype 3.x).

list end

Total Recorder V7.0 Standard Edition offers a number of new features
including:

list of 3 items
. The feature of exporting/importing Total Recorder's settings and scheduled
jobs is added. It can be useful if you need to reinstall your system, move
Total Recorder from one computer to another one and for backup.

. In the new version of the program you can rename one file or a batch of
files from playlist using tag information.

. New version of Total Recorder is distinguished by higher speed and better
file compression when encoding files to FLAC format due to using the latest
version of FLAC sources.

list end

Total Recorder Professional Edition Version 7.0 includes all updates
released in the Standard Edition and has the additional changes:

list of 2 items
. Total Recorder offers the unique TimeShift feature which enables you to
exercise simultaneous listening and recording. It means that you can record
the
audio file and listen to it without waiting for the recording process to be
finished. You can also listen to the file from any position while recording
it.

. Cue-sheet files are now supported by Total Recorder. ?ue-points can be
created:
- Manually, e.g. to make a bookmark in a sound file.
- Automatically during recording session based on pause reduction, changes
of clip info in an external player, etc.
- Automatically during capturing Internet transmission when information
about a track is changed (if such information is provided by server).
A file can be splited at any time using CUE-points.

list end

We are currently working on implementing capture (rip) of
Internet-broadcasts in MP3, WMA and Ogg Vorbis formats directly without
decoding and re-encoding
(in addition to the ability of recording Internet-broadcasts of various
formats via external players). During recording you will also be able to
listen
to the steaming audio from any position of the broadcast you have already
captured.

New version of Video Add-on includes the following features:

list of 5 items
. Support of video files of the following formats is added: - Digital Video
(DV); - Windows Media Video (WMV) formats. We are currently working on
implementing
support of MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats.

. You can watch and record TV programs from TV-turner.

. Ability to record from digital DV format camera, connected to PC via
IEEE1394 interface.

. Built-in feature of turning off Video Acceleration for screen recording (a
separate utility was intended for this purpose previously).

. Performance characteristics are enhanced, so playback is improved and
saving of video files becomes faster.

list end

Our developers now are working on support simultaneous watching and
recording of Internet WMV streams.

operated by keyboard at all? If not, are there any reasonably accessible 3rd
party programs I could use to control this unit?

Hello all I have posted this question before but I did not get any help
 so
here it is again. I have video i.e., DVD's, Tivo recordings and such
 what I
want to do in a effort to save hard drive space is strip the audio from
 a
video and convert it into MP3 format. Does anyone know assessable
 software
 that can do this task?

AverMedia USB Radio

2007-01-02 Thread Jani Kinnunen
Hi,

I've got an USB FM radio called AverMedia USB Radio and I'd like to use it
to record my favorite radio programs, but the software that comes with it,
as I feared, is inaccessible with JAWS except the channel tuning wizard that
pops up the first time the software is started. So, I'm wondering if
there're any other programs supporting this USB radio model that I could
use. Does someone know of such programs?

Re: Basic goldwave Questions

2006-12-14 Thread Jani Kinnunen
Hi,

Unfortunately Soundsoap is totally inaccessible. I found that when I tried
to use it myself. You could use the Sony Noise Reduction package instead,
though you have to pay for it.

Re: Some Goldwave Questions

2006-09-30 Thread Jani Kinnunen
 1. Are there scripts for Jaws or are these unnecessary?

There are scripts, but GoldWave can also be used without them. You can find
the scripts here: http://jbauer.port5.com

 2. I've heard that it can deal with mp4s and Audible files - is this true
or untrue? (the demo version doesn't)

I'm not sure as I've never had such files, but I doubt that.

 3. I like the look of its sister program Multi quence - is this
 accessible?

No, it isn't. I've tested it.

How to extract sound from video files?

2006-07-31 Thread Jani Kinnunen
Hi,

Does someone know of such a program that I could use to extract sound from
AVI and MPEG video files? All the ones I've tried were so inaccessible that
I didn't even have the energy to start playing with them. Are there any
accessible freeware or open source programs out there that would do the
job?
