RE: zoom iq-5 microphone and handy-rec ap

2014-09-06 Thread Jerry Berrier
I recently bought one and have found it to be only somewhat accessible. I
had to get sighted help to lower the headset volume. There's a slider for
that, but Voiceover does not seem to find it. I have not yet succeeded at
recording raw ms stereo. I've had success recording on the 90 and 120
degree settings on the mic, but I don't know whether the outcome is actually
MS. I also bought a RedHead wind screen. That thing is huge, considering
the size of the mic. I'll be trying out the wind screen later this morning.

It's in a table, so you have to use table reading commands to read it.
Once you are on the table, hold down control and alt, and then use your
arrow keys to move through the columns and rows.
First column is features. Arrow down to a feature, and then move to the
right to find which version has that feature.

Seeking Surround Sound File to demonstrate Bose system

2011-12-23 Thread Jerry Berrier
First question is can 5.1 surround sound be played via an MP3 file?
Also, I'm looking for a very rich audio file to play for someone to demonstrate
the surround sound features of my Bose system. It came with a DVD with some
good audio on it, but it's not very blind-friendly.
I'd like suggestions of either a classical music recording, nature recording,
or anything else that really accentuates surround sound.

Thanks for any suggestions. PS: I'm particularly interested in something I
can purchase from iTunes or download elsewhere.

Hi everyone. Sorry, another nerdy conversation on the way.

I'm looking to purchase a new audio recorder, and am stuck between the
Edirol R09HR and the Zoom H4N. Both look good for different reasons
(the Zoom looks particularly good as I understand you can use
different microphones to record different channels with it), but I'm
not sure about how accessible they are. If anybody has used either of
these machines, I'd be grateful for any info on features or
accessibility which they'd be happy to share. If somebody has used or
tried both, a comparison would also be really appreciated.

Thanks as always, Danny

a problem though I don't use JFW or any software speech as this can
complicate issues, I have more computing power and resources at my disposal
etc but that's another topic for another day.

Firstly, I tather that in order to use more than one software device, you
need to be using Windows XP, I use XP here and I have no trouble though
I've never tried using more than one sound device with Windows 98, ME etc.

Second, I'm told that for best results its best to use 2 completely
different sound devices (the example is given below of both internal and
external sound devices which sounds fare enough to me, in my case I use the
internal sound device which is placed on my Mother board and an Audigy
Sound Blaster card, the system works well with these 2 devices).

Third, make sure that your devices are configured correctly from the
control pannel, I have my Internal device configured so that all system
sounds and events are played through it. If I want to do any further
configurations for the sound devices I do those directly from other
applications, (Winamp for instance, I go into the Output Tree of the
Preferences and configure the Waveout plug-in to play directly to my Sound
Blaster Audigy which is connected to my audio system), the trick seems to
be to bypass (wherever possible) that Microsoft Sound Mapper, and (if
installed) to Total Recorder driver etc.

Finally, be sure tthat all drivers for all sound devices are
up-to-date. Be sure that the internal sound device (if you're planning to
use one) has been enabled from the CMOS and take note that Windows XP may
not be able to find some sound devices automatically so the option of using
a hardware speech synthesizer comes into its own here.

Cheers

Monitoring Recording through External Sound Card

2004-12-26 Thread Jerry Berrier
Hi all,

I want to be able to record via a preamp through my external sound card on
my hP Pavilion t3000 laptop, and I want to be able to hear it while I'm
recording.

If I use a microphone and no external sound card, I can unmute the mic on
the output side in Volume control, and I can then monitor my recording.
However, I want to be able to record in stereo, so I purchased a

USBW-USB510

 sound card from usb-ware.com.
It came with a funky little audio program on a 3.5 inch disk, but it does
not seem to have a facility for listening to what's being recorded.

Does anyone know of a generic volume control program that might do what I am
seeking to do?
Again, my goal is to record in stereo and be able to monitor while I'm
recording.

Thanks.

RE: goldwave problems

2004-05-27 Thread Jerry Berrier
Have you guys seen the open letter from Gold wave to Audible. As of this
morning, it was still on goldwave.com. It's in response to Audile's demands
that Goldwave remove any reference to converting audible files with
Goldwave. The Goldwave company's response was excellent.

I just converted a audible file to mp3 but for some reason its not starting
at the beginning of the file. it shows that it is the correct length as the
original its just starting somewhere in the middle.

RE: trimming space at beginning and end of recordings with gold wave

2004-05-21 Thread Jerry Berrier
I think Trim is control-t, not alt-t.
If you put a left bracket just before the part begins that you want kept,
and then a right bracket at the end of the part you're saving, then hit
control-t, then save it, you will have trimmed the beginning and end stuff.

Thanks everyone for the help in my splitting and naming tracks with gold
wave. Now for my next question. I read the manual but cant figure out how to
clean the space at beginnings and endings of recordings. I tried to use the
trim feature by pressing alt T, but that doesn't seem to work. can any one
tell me how to do this? Thanks, Joe.

RE: making music with loops?

2004-05-16 Thread Jerry Berrier
I would love to learn how to use the loops. I've tried and failed, even
though I have the scripts.
Parts of Adobe Audition are accessible with the scripts, but it isn't
completely accessible by any stretch of the imagination, as far as I know.

It was called Cool Edit Pro version 2.1 - this was recently taken over by
Adobe and renamed Audition. As far as I'm aware there's no difference except
for the rebranding. There are scripts available for Jaws for both versions
of the program. As I said before I've never used it for loops but given that
the rest of the program is fairly accessible I think it should be ok for
making and using loops. There are certainly are thousands of loops available
from Adobe - they're free when you purchase the full program.

Regards.

  Hi Hank

Cool Edit Pro (Audition now) can work with loops. As I've not used it
for
this purpose I don't know how easy or difficult it is but I think the
 basics
would be fairly easy. There's thousands of loops available with it.
