RE: zoom iq-5 microphone and handy-rec ap
I recently bought one and have found it to be only somewhat accessible. I had to get sighted help to lower the headset volume. There's a slider for that, but Voiceover does not seem to find it. I have not yet succeeded at recording raw ms stereo. I've had success recording on the 90 and 120 degree settings on the mic, but I don't know whether the outcome is actually MS. I also bought a RedHead wind screen. That thing is huge, considering the size of the mic. I'll be trying out the wind screen later this morning. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of tim cumings Sent: Saturday, August 16, 2014 10:39 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: zoom iq-5 microphone and handy-rec ap I just purchased the zoom iq-5 stereo microphone to use with my iphone. Seeking Surround Sound File to demonstrate Bose system
First question is can 5.1 surround sound be played via an MP3 file? Also, I'm looking for a very rich audio file to play for someone to demonstrate the surround sound features of my Bose system. It came with a DVD with some good audio on it, but it's not very blind-friendly. I'd like suggestions of either a classical music recording, nature recording, or anything else that really accentuates surround sound. Thanks for any suggestions. Firstly, I tather that in order to use more than one software device, you need to be using Windows XP, I use XP here and I have no trouble though I've never tried using more than one sound device with Windows 98, ME etc. Second, I'm told that for best results its best to use 2 completely different sound devices (the example is given below of both internal and external sound devices which sounds fare enough to me, in my case I use the internal sound device which is placed on my Mother board and an Audigy Sound Blaster card, the system works well with these 2 devices). Third, make sure that your devices are configured correctly from the control pannel, I have my Internal device configured so that all system sounds and events are played through it. If I want to do any further configurations for the sound devices I do those directly from other applications, (Winamp for instance, I go into the Output Tree of the Preferences and configure the Waveout plug-in to play directly to my Sound Blaster Audigy which is connected to my audio system), the trick seems to be to bypass (wherever possible) that Microsoft Sound Mapper, and (if installed) to Total Recorder driver etc. Finally, be sure tthat all drivers for all sound devices are up-to-date. Be sure that the internal sound device (if you're planning to use one) has been enabled from the CMOS and take note that Windows XP may not be able to find some sound devices automatically so the option of using a hardware speech synthesizer comes into its own here. Monitoring Recording through External Sound Card
Hi all, I want to be able to record via a preamp through my external sound card on my hP Pavilion t3000 laptop, and I want to be able to hear it while I'm recording. If I use a microphone and no external sound card, I can unmute the mic on the output side in Volume control, and I can then monitor my recording. However, I want to be able to record in stereo, so I purchased a USBW-USB510 sound card from usb-ware.com. It came with a funky little audio program on a 3.5 inch disk, but it does not seem to have a facility for listening to what's being recorded. Does anyone know of a generic volume control program that might do what I am seeking to do? Again, my goal is to record in stereo and be able to monitor while I'm recording.
