registering sound forge

2006-04-06 Thread Ray Slaton
Hi, I have reinstalled sound forge 6.0 because of some problems I was having
and I've received from tech support a registration code, and an authorization
code for registering the mp3 plug-ins.
I have registered the serial number and the registration code, but now I need
to know how do I register the plug ins?
the guy at tech support told me that with in the save as menu click on custom.
but I did that and saw no where to enter a code.
Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

strange behavior in sound forge

2006-04-03 Thread Ray Slaton
hi folks,
I am experiencing a strange behavior in sound forge version six.
as soon as I record a file, and hit enter on save as when I click on save,
instead of hearing jaws say saving, saving, saving, and so on, as soon as I hit
save I hear jaws saying the file, file name, has been saved in a compressed
format...
why would I hear that the file has been saved without it actually been saved.
I am able to hear the wave file I created fine.
but when I go to the folder the file was to be saved in I hear no audio.
so why this premature announcement of file has been saved?
Thanks bunches.

 Hi Ray,

 When I got my system it also came with the stripped down version of nero;
however in my honest opinion stripped down OEM versions of software are
only
one floor above pieces of crap so I bit the bullet and paid the $79.95 and
upgraded it to the motherload and the benefits were well worth the cost.
If
you choose to upgrade it to a full version, for now grab nero 6.616 it
seems
to be the most accessible of the versions that are available.

I am able to schedule the shows alright.

I am using the demo version in which you are suppose to be able to record 15

so, what do I need to do.
Like I say it just keeps playing the first three seconds over, and over again.

replay radio 7 question

2006-02-26 Thread Ray Slaton
Hi I am trying a demo of replay radio with jaws seven.
Tried to record a show, but received error message, saying couldn't connect to
server.
I may have it configured wrong.
Right after installing it, I was asked about connection speed.
I was giving a choice of dial up connection or proxy server.
Wasn't sure what to do since I am on cable.
Second question, what is the easiest way to get to the shows that you've
recorded?
I know I can only play fifteen minutes audio using this demo version, I just
need a little more help with the program.
Thanks in advance, and jonathan, what a great review on your site.
Had no idea you were living in the U.S. now.
Again, thanks again guys.

Since I have dial-up, I can't vouch that my answer is totally correct, but
I
believe you want to leave dial-up unchecked. If you have a proxy you
should
include its name and port, but if you haven't had to do that previously
for
some program or other, you likely don't have one and needn't worry about
it.
These choices are located under the settings menu found on the main
screen.
Find settings and press the spacebar on it. Shift tab once to be in the
list
of control tabs, and right arrow to connections. Be sure that dial-up is
unchecked, and unless you know better, make sure proxy is unchecked as
well.
See if this makes a difference.

Open the programM and after getting by the demo messages youshould be on
the
about button. Right arrow or tab 44 or pPeErRhHaAps 5 times to play.
Press
the space bar. Mmake your selection. Lookk at the menus a bit to know
what
 options are there.
Alternatively, you can do what I do and listen to your recordings with
your
favorite player. Sorry, the rest is mostly upper case. I've fixed the
problem this far in, but the rest you'll have to put up with with upper
and
 lower case mixed weirdly.
anyway, IF YOU WANT TO TRY AN ALTERNATIVE, YOU GO TO THE FOLDER BY
STARTING
WITH MY COMPUTER OUTSIDE THE PROGRAM. next SELECT YOUR HARD DRIVE, AND IN
THE DEFAULT STATE, PRESS P TILL YOU GET TO PROGRAM FILES AND PRESS ENTER.
PRESS R TILL YOU GET TO REPLAY 7 AND PRESS ENTER.
PRESS R TILL YOU GET TO RECORDINGS AND PRESS ENTER. there YOU WILL FIND
THE
FOLDERS OF ANY SHOWS YOU HAVE RECORDED. in EACH FOLDER WILL BE THE SHOW
OR
SHOWS IF SEVERAL OF THAT NAME, AND THE LOG FILE FOR THAT OR THOSE SHOWS.

 Hello Tallahassee!

Yes, you can use Skype even you are using Windows 98. The latest version
of
Skype is 2.0.0.81, which you can download at

Can I know what version of JAWS you are using? If you are using JAWS5 and
below, you need a scripts to work with Skype.

If you want the scripts, please send me your e mail address and I will

sirius channel listings

2006-01-09 Thread Ray Slaton
Hi, well, we bought the sportster replay from radio shack and chuck, you were
right. setup was very easy. I would like to thank everyone that answered my
sirius radio questions.
Could someone please send me the sirius channel guide off list? When I clicked
on it on the web site a pdf file of the listings came up and I wasn't able to
read it.
Thanks much in advance.

Ray, Sirius told me over the phone when I installed my unit that I should
place the antenna outside, although I haven't done that yet. I have some
trouble but not much. When and if you get your unit, turn to channel 184
which is their update channel that also has some weather stuff. That's
what
they recommend. It's a very easy set up and I don't think you'll have much
of a problem though. You can subscribe to different emails for sports,
music, etc for program updates, and like with XM you'll be able to get the
 music channels online.

 Hope that helps some.

Hi Ray, I haven't had too bad of a time with antenna placement,
though in the house I get the best results with the antenna facing
southwest. I would have to move it sometimes when the climate
changed, or when there were significant solar flares or
whatever. Just kidding a little there. Anyway, right now I have the
antenna outside on our upper deck, facing west. With the antenna
outside I rarely get any problems with the transmission, but I do
understand this is not an option for everyone. HTH Norma

sirius radio

2005-12-31 Thread Ray Slaton
Hi,
I know a lot of you use xm radio, but is anyone on here familiar with Sirius?
I went to target and the unit I looked at, don't remember the model number, the

My fear is that the buttons on these things are so small, that you can only use
the remote.
I am looking next week for more models, but if any of you have any
recommendations for a particular Sirius unit, please let me know.
Many thanks in advance.

The most friendly thing I own is XMPCR but I haven't been able to find it

For 2.5 punch in 2500 and the left or A.M. enter key.--the key to the left
of zero
It's been a while since I've used it but you might press the ender key
first then your digits and your enter key again.
Anyway, the button to the left of zero is the A.M. enter key and the key
to the right of zero is the F.M. enter key.
NOTE: for the 5, 10 15 and 20 mhz frequencies you do not need to enter
5000, 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000, simply enter 5, 10, 15, 20.
The time from this source is not an exact time as there are several
seconds delay or even a minute or more by the time the signal reaches your

satellite radio

2005-03-09 Thread Ray Slaton
Hi gang,
There has been a lot of discussion on this list about satellite radio.
We just found an article in a internet publication the voice of the nations
blind concerning Satellite Radio.
I am not endorsing the NFB which is where this came from.
Just found the article interesting and thought I would share.

Ray Slaton

1 November 04
Christopher Danielsen

Consumer Electronics Watch
Satellite Radio: Accessible Entertainment Option?

What You Should Know Before You Take the Plunge

There seems to be a good deal of interest in the blind community in
satellite radio, the latest innovation to hit the radio world. Although one
never wants
to say anything to stereotype the blind community as a whole, it is probably
fair to say that we have a special affinity for the medium. Satellite radio
offers a welcome alternative for folks who are tired of what is currently
available on the AM and FM bands.

If you're not familiar with the concept, satellite radio is exactly what its
name implies: radio broadcasting that bounces its signal from a satellite
back
to earth to be received by special receivers built for that purpose, as
opposed to using terrestrial airwaves. There are two satellite radio
services currently
available in the United States:
XM Radio
and
Sirius Satellite Radio.
Each service offers over a hundred channels of programming, in digital
sound, much of it commercial free, ranging from all conceivable varieties of
music
to news, talk (for both conservative and liberal persuasions), sports,
religious programming, classic and contemporary radio drama, and more. The
satellite
services are now beginning to offer local traffic and weather information
for major markets, as well as local weather and emergency information (XM
has
the first 24/7 emergency alert channel). All of this is available for the
initial cost of the receiving equipment (you can expect to spend between
$150
and $200) and a very reasonable monthly subscription fee ($9.99 per radio
per month for XM, $12.95 for Sirius.) You can save money on both services by
getting one-year or multi-year subscriptions, if you decide you really like
the service.

There are many factors to be considered in deciding which satellite radio
service to choose. These include where you live (different areas will get
varying
signal strength), how much money you want to spend, and your programming
preferences (type of music, air personalities, sports preferences, etc.) A
thorough
discussion of all of these factors is beyond the scope of this article. The
purpose here is to provide you with information that you will need as a
blind
consumer if you decide to pursue satellite radio as an entertainment option.

Equipment Accessibility

Both XM and Sirius have a variety of receivers available. Most of them can
be connected to your home stereo system, with car kits and boom boxes also
available.
Generally, you'll buy a receiver unit that can snap into a power supply
cradle that you then connect to your home sound system, and you can also buy
a
boom box (where the same unit snaps into a cradle on the front of the box)
or a car adapter. You can, of course, buy more than one radio receiver if
you
want, but you'll be charged the monthly subscription fee for each one you
own. The receiver will generally come with a long antenna, which you should
install
according to the manufacturer's directions or those on your chosen satellite
provider's Web site for optimal reception.

Get a reliable salesperson at your favorite consumer electronics store to
show you the various receivers and how they work. You might want to have
someone
identify the various jacks on the unit and what plugs into them, unless you
want to do it by trial and error, which is possible but can be tedious the
first time you try it. You will also want some assistance in the initial
identification of controls. Also, be sure to ask someone to give you the
authorization
code for the unit you finally decide to buy, which is usually printed on the
box and can also be accessed by powering up the unit and reading the digital
display. The unit's identification number is what XM or Sirius will use to
send a signal that activates the unit and allows you to receive the
programming.
Until you've activated the unit, you can only listen to a single preview
channel.

Both services offer you the option of activating your new radio on-line or
over the telephone. Activation fees are charged for this service; generally
it
is slightly more expensive to activate over the telephone. However, while
XM's on-line activation process is accessible to blind computer users,
Sirius's
isn't, so you will have no choice but to cough up the fifteen bucks Sirius
will charge you to call for activation. This is clearly unfair to blind
consumers
and Sirius should rectify the situation.

Once you activate your radio, start scrolling through the channels; you
should start to hear the programming. Once you have gone through these
initial steps,
you should

accessible products from panasonic

2005-01-22 Thread Ray Slaton
Hi Folks,
Around a year ago I had a conversation with the director of accessibility at
Panasonic in regards to making their products more accessible.
At that time the director invited blind persons to write with suggestions.
It has been a year now so yesterday I wrote Panasonic to see if there had
been any developments in regards to accessibility.
The following is a letter I wrote Mr. Wegner and following that will be his
response.

Please pass this on to anyone you might think would be interested. Thanks.

Subject: Accessible products

Dear Mr. wegner,
I talked to you about a year ago on the phone in which during our
conversation you invited blind persons to write you and suggest ways in
which Panasonic could make their products more accessible.
I think you told me you heard from around 65 people with various
suggestions.
Just wondered if Panasonic has come out with or is planning to come out
with
a talking vcr or dvd unit?
Thanks.
Ray Slaton

PS. Panasonic is to be commended on their work on making cordless
telephones
much more accessible than in previous times.

Dear Mr. Slaton,
Thank you very much for your message.
Since our initial communication, over 140 persons have requested a
talking DVD recorder / player.
At current, we have a working concept unit which we showed to the NFB.
The NFB was very optimistic about it. How ever, no plans exist at this
time on making this in to a real product. My next battle is to convince
our sales company, to request this type of talking unit from our design
team.
If you have any information, stating that this type of product could be
sold with some respective quantities please pass them on to me.

Best regards

grundig satellitt 800

Hi Folks,
wonder if any of you have the grundig satellitt 800 portable short wave radio.
Is it accessible?
Once you find a station you like how do you program it in to memory?

The reason for the last question is that I am told that the sony 2010 is
real easy in fact one of the easiest to program.
So I am deciding on the 2010 or the 800.

Yes I know that the 2010 is no longer made but there seems to be a lot of
them on ebay.
Thanks for your thoughts.

noaa weather radio

2004-08-27 Thread Ray Slaton
Hey Guys,

The subject of noaa weather radio and the synthetic speech has come up once
in a while on the list.
If you want to hear some really clear speech you should dial the Miami
Florida national weather service at

305 229-4522.

They use a program called the V I P voice improvement program.
It's been out about a year.
It uses a male and female voice. The male sounds the clearest.
But the hourly station ID uses the real robotic sounding speech of an
earlier program.
I really like the male voice.
What do you think?

 Hi,

It seems to me that that was a truly annoying feature in earlier
versions, one, indeed, that kept me from using nero regularly. Then, I
was
in a position where I couldn't make roxio run, on my laptop, and needed
something quickly. I downloaded the new version 6.0 and low and behold,
the problem's gone. A tip I just picked up, when you cursor over a tune
you want in your compilation, press cntrl 1 and the song goes next in
line. Hope this helps someone and it is rare when I use roxio anymore.

I am aware of this drag and drop process, but I was too foolish to think

using it. I'll give it a try this afternoon.
