RE: Winamp 5.04 accessible?

2004-08-25 Thread Schulz, Maureen, SSA
With the 5.0 version, my jaws couldn't read in the edit bookmarks part, the
list of bookmarks. It could without a problem in earlier versions. Does
anybody know whether this has been corrected, and also does 5.04 play
streaming windows media files out of the box? Thanks.

Yes, it can be made accessible, but it's pretty tricky.

You have to switch in to Classic Winamp in order for everything to work as
it did before.

To do this, you need to access the preferences dialogue, and arrow down to
the skins area of the tree view. In the options panel, you will find that
you have a choice between Classic Winamp, and Modern Winamp. It defaults to
Modern Winamp. Jaws will also go a bit weird at this point, but don't panic.
If it says, List box Winamp Modern 2 of 2, then obviously you just up arrow
once to select Classic Winamp. Then rather than trying to figure out where
it's thrown your cursor, just exit Winamp completely and re-open it. Your
changes should have taken effect, and you should now be able to turn off the
various bits of the screen you don't want.

You should also be aware that they have now introduced a new component
called the Media Library. This can be turned off in a similar way to the
mini browser, equalizer and play-list editor.

I would like to point out however, that if someone could modify the existing
Winamp scripts to take advantage of the new Winamp layout, it would be an
incredibly powerful tool for most of us. This is largely because it can now
support practically any audio/video playback, burn and rip CD's, and even
play DVD movies as far as I can tell. What's more, if we could use the Media
library screen, everything is right there ready to use. No messing around
with menus and trying to remember a billion hotkeys! Everything ready to go
in one place. But there are parts of the screen that do not work out of the
box, and I for one, refuse to mouse around using the Jaws Cursor! That's a
cop-out, and it isn't a reliable way of accessing software really because
you end up hearing every last graphic, symbol and character on every line,
and somewhere amongst all that babble is the one tiny thing you're looking
for! LOL!

One other catch however, is that if you wish to rip tracks from a CD in to
MP3 format, you actually have to buy Winamp Pro! What a surprise! I expect
there are a number of other features which are not accessible in the basic
version, but I believe that Pro is not very expensive. Certainly not as
expensive as say, Real Player Pro would be.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Matt

RE: juke box type of question

2004-08-04 Thread Schulz, Maureen, SSA
Yeah, ots juke will do this. And I have always used a double talk
synthesizer, because I cannot stand having the speech come out of the same
speakers as the music I'm listening to. I don't know though if an external
double talk is still available or works with xp.

I just had a brain storm and was wondering if such a program exists. Setting
aside, having to have speech go to a separate location, etc, what I want to
do is at a party, have people submit requests which I would type in,
providing I have the title. How can I compile a play list, already in
progress? In other words, songs will already be playing but I would still
want to take requests and have them in a sequential order using some kind of
program. Ok, enough of my brain storm. Does a program exist like this, using
JAWS and XP? Thank you.

RE: saving radio stations with media plyer

2004-07-26 Thread Schulz, Maureen, SSA
Hi. I don't have xp, but in windows media player 9 you add the currently
playing track to the library from the file menu. It's saved under other
media in the library tree view. My old jfw version does not read the list
view either, I was hoping that would have been corrected with xp and a later
version of jfw.

We were using blindradio.org and tried to download stations into the media
library of XP Media Player, we downloaded the url's and found that when when
you go into My Playlist what we have are liks with nondescriptive names.
How do you label these url's so that you know what the station is that the
url refers to by name? Or is there a better way of saving it - like
favorites?

buffering problem?

2004-07-09 Thread Schulz, Maureen, SSA
I have a problem with some shoutcast streams.-- They play for a
minute or so, then stop, and restart after another minute. This repeats
constantly.-- Reinstalling winamp and increasing the buffering didn't help.

Hi David.

I suffered with this problem for a number of months. Have you tried working
your way through the Nero help tool? I found this very useful as it will
run through a checklist of areas that may affect successful burning.

Anyway, the answer for me was to set my CD-rewriter to be DMA enabled. This
meant that data could be transferred between the rewriter and hard drive
much more efficiently. I've never had a buffer underrun since.

Have you ever been able to burn CD's successfully with your current set up?

 Hi Mimi

No, it was not the CD's... I've got very old equipment cuz I can't afford
anything else right now. Apparently it was something called underr un or
underburn or something, which meant the buffer to the CD write thingy
got
empty before more info was grabbed from the hard drive. I don't know how
else to explain it at the moment, it's new to me. Anyway, my friend burned
the CD's with his own computer and the same kind of CD discs, so they were
 okay.

 Thanks

 David

Another way to know is when you play it back on your computer's CD drive

   Hi listers

With sighted help, I learned how to use Nero 5.5 to burn mp3 files to
a
CD. I split thirty five tracks into three folders and tried to make
three
CD's from these. At 4x speed, only 4 tracks were burned. Then, running
my CD
burner at 1x speed, the first eleven tracks are burned (and played)
great,
but each time the twelvth and last track is played, it's okay for a few
seconds, then it gets comically crazy, like a space-age merry-go-round.
And
the CD player stays stuck on that track until I physically stop it or
switch
to another CD in my player.

There was an error message from nero at the end of each burn session,
and
I saved the burn log from the last session. It's 8 pages long and I have
no
idea what it means. I can forward a copy to the list if it would help in
  solving this problem.

I'd appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

Michael,
Yes, that's what I have, forgot to say so, smile. i've never had much luck
with Windows Media Player, guess I need to try testing it with another
stream to see if it is working at all. But my question really was whether
it is possible to play WMA files through Winamp as the default player or
whether to just accept that Media Player will grab them. In any case, as I
said, I can play the smaller file just fine as long as I allow it to log
onto the website but not the other one which is supposedly just tied to the
player, does that make sense? I must be missing something.

Hello,

I downloaded the alternative real media player from the
Whitestick.co.uk site, though I do not recall the exact name of the
player.

At any rate, I am having a minor problem which is somewhat irritating.
The player works great except that every time I open a real media file
or stream with it, it lowers the wave volume level substantially, thus
also reducing dramatically the volume level of software speech. Using
the player's control to increase the volume does not address this
problem.

Is there a fix? I looked through the program's options but found none.
 Thanks for assistance.

The actual file apparently is not in temporary internet files any more, just

Hi Maureen,

If you can still get to that file, go into Windows Explorer and copy it to
somewhere else. That location is for temporary files and depending on your
Internet Explorer settings, it might not remain when IE is closed.

If you can go back to the original source page, right click on the link,
choose save target as and save the file.

As Jeff said, you open it as a file, not a URL. If you want the actual URL,
open the file in Notepad and you will find the URL as part or all of the
text.

Hope this helps.
