RE: Audacity Versus Reaper for Multitrack Recording

2013-11-26 Thread Ted Phillips
Personally, I could not get tracks to sync up together so that they sounded
correctly like they would in sonar or reaper. If someone could tell me how
to make tracks line up the way they are supposed to, I would give it a try
again.

For example, while recording vocals, my second harmony part would not stay
with the first, and I did not know how to make it line up.

That is my two cents worth.

I have successfully used Audacity for multitrack recording of songs, using
guitars, a keyboard, and a drum machine. I have heard and read very
favorable comments about another multitracker called Reaper. I would like
to hear opinions from anyone who has used both, as to which is better and
why, considering accessibility, of course.

Yes, the midi-mag list is still going, and I have one of these keyboards.
They are simple and very straight forward in many ways, both in the keyboard
and their operation with a computer. I think you will be pleased with it.

RE: iTunes 11 query

2012-12-04 Thread Ted Phillips
You have gotten further than I have, I haven't had a lot of practice
putting books and music on my iphone. How do I put music, books, ETC in my
library to transfer to my phone? Please all, forgive my lack of knowledge.

Subject: iTunes 11 query

Hi all,

Firstly, I hope this is the correct list to post this query, but if not, my
sincere apologies.

I am using iTunes 11, with Jaws 14 and windows 8 64 bit.

In general, navigation is fine, and the software works as expected. However,
I have a specific problem, when transferring audio books from my iTunes
library to my phone.

Firstly, with the sidebar hidden in iTunes 11, which is the default after
installing, I can see my phone, and the selection of radio buttons to show
music, movies, films, apps, tones, summary and info, but not books.
If, however, I unhide the sidebar, the 'books' radio button becomes visible
to Jaws and all is well.

Now, when I activate the books radio button I get taken, as would be
expected, to the options relating to how books should be transferred to my
phone.

I have the tick box to sync audio books ticked, and the radio button to sync
selected audio books checked. All fine so far. Now, here's where the problem
arises.
Previously, immediately following the radio button to sync selected audio
books, there was a tree view of all the audio books in my iTunes library. I
simply ticked the books I wanted copied to my phone, and unticked books that
I wanted removed, tabbed to sync, and all was done. Now however, when I
press tab, I am told, audio 2.5GB, but no list of books to select what to
copy and what not to.

I can of course view my books in the main library view and copy them one at
a time, but surely this is not the only way to transfer selected audio books
anymore?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

Stuart

That's the short answer. The somewhat longer answer is in a way. You can
mix tracks together, do voiceovers, and so on. I mix my radio shows
together (samples at www.totw.net) entirely using Gold Wave. I have
mixed vocals together on karaoke tracks. It's not as intuitive as a true
multitrack program, which is why the short answer is the correct short
answer, but can be done to a limited degree.

Hi
I wonder if anyone else who uses the scripts can help.
I've tried the scripts on Audition 1.5 with Jaws 7, and Jaws 9, and they
work pretty well in multitrack view. But I always find in whichever machine
I'm on, that the scripts make navigation difficult by dialog boxes in the
Edit View, e.g. you can enter a dialog box but can't tab round it - you have
to use the Jaws cursor.
Am I alone in this and if not are there any solutions, like for example a
particular screen mode?

Well, you could talk to ten people, and probably get ten different answers

Hi listers. The subject says it all. Now, I am wanting some opinions on
what is best as to a sound card that won't break the bank but will give me

when it comes to the eax control panel and such, so I would like to avoid
those, unless something there really shines. Thanks all.

RE: Hello am looking for some advice in converting tapes to cd.

2007-11-29 Thread Ted Phillips
I am using almost the same setup as mentioned by the others mentioned here,
but I have used a patch cable and am able to use either a headphone jack on
a walkman, or the output on a library for the blind tape player for playing
tapes. This doesn't make what they told you wrong, it is just another way
of doing things with what you have. Let me know if I can be of further
assistance.

Hello Sue,
Your definitely on the right list for this. I recently did this and got
a lot of help on it, it is definitely doable with the hardware you have. I
have a machine with 256 mb of ram and a 20 gig hard disk and it worked fine.

How much are you planning to bring over i mean length of the tape?
What i use is a program called Goldwave, as recommended by several on
this list. I love it, there's in my opinion a lot to learn, but you can
tackle just what you need and learn the more advanced stuff later.
You'll need a cable going from the RCA outs on your tape deck, and i
don't recommend a walk man, if you have one a stereo deck would be best.
Anyway, the cable, and again was pointed out by a member of this list, is
called a Stereo Y jack, it has two RCA connections that go in the RCA outs
on the stereo deck, to an 1/8 inch connector on the other end, that goes in
to the line in on your sound card.
Hth
Dave.

These scripts fix some things that GW broke in the newest version of the

You can get them at:

http://www.blind-geek-zone.net

Look in the programs section and be sure to pick the scripts that say they
are for 5.22 and higher.

a winamp question

2007-10-16 Thread Ted Phillips
Hi listers. I have been seeing this thread about winamp versus WMP for a
while, and the only problem I can see with winamp, especially is that if I
use the direct sound output the volume is well below the volume of jaws.
This sometimes causes problems. If I bring the EQ up to try to compensate
for it, it sometimes saturates the player with weird results. If anyone
knows a way around this, I would be interested in hearing it. Thanks

It allows you to record your cassettes right to your hard drive.
And if you want to, you can burn the files to CD right from the cassette
deck.
I am trying to locate a store that I can buy one of these just to try it out
just to see how well it works.

RE: How to best or easiest way to Record Audio Cassettes to the PC?

2007-10-10 Thread Ted Phillips
As to the high speed question, I can answer that one. I am doing now. It
works good, and am having no trouble with it. I do have to add in some high
frequencies after recording at higher speeds, but it is worth it in the end.

Another question. If any of you use 4 track tapes is it possible to put
these in the stereo and later reverse tracks on the right side of the stereo
field and make all tracks mono Also is it possible to record at a high speed
and slow down the recording for the mp3?

trouble with adobe audition

2007-09-27 Thread Ted Phillips
Hi all. Somehow, I have gotten adobe audition recording only on the left
channel. My sound card settings seem to be correct, sound recorder still
records normally, and the source plays in both channels, but I can't seem to
find the problem. If anyone has any ideas what to check next, I would
appreciate it very much. Thanks all.

Hi Mario and Sky
Can I check if you know about or have the Adobe Manual for Audition and
also possess the Jaws scripts for version 1.5? I've used both for some time
until fairly recently - the scripts don't seem to work well in multitrack
view in latest versions of Jaws, but the do work well with versions of Jaws
6. It might be useful to keep an old version of Jaws handy on hard drive to
work with the multitrack view.

Re: Specs required for a decent DAW

2006-11-01 Thread Ted Phillips
I would say that anything you have should contain 512 mb of memory, and a
sound blaster card, which ever one you prefer. You will also want plenty of
hard drive space for file storage. and as fast a processor as you can get
away with.

Re: realtek sound card

2006-08-05 Thread Ted Phillips
I am familiar with this chip. It is an onboard chip in many of the new
boards and is quite popular now. The only problem with it is that it is not
very accessible when it comes to working with recording with different kinds
of devices. I have the same chip on my board. I elected to go with a
turtle beach riviera sound card, and then finally to a sound blaster live 24
bit card. I am by far happiest with the soundblaster. I would recommend
that you consider doing the same when you can and if you wish. Otherwise, I
will try to help you figure out your sound as best I can. If you wish, send
your contact info to me off list and I will try to help you troubleshoot.
My e-mail address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks and good luck.

made with k1000 using eloquence. Is there any fool proof way to write these
files so they will play? Thanks in advance.

You can get the Santa Cruz card from newegg.com for around $60. That's where

know is if you have to reinstall windows xp, does windows support it with a
