I too have one and rarely use it. My reason is I have the tiniest bit of
vision and if I use huge print I can see the item's title. If one had no
other choice, the unit is okay, but if you have an iPhone, you have several
options which work very well.

Re: Soundbars

2014-05-10 Thread Mike Thomas
Hi Howard, Older televisions typically had enough speaker enclosure and did
not require something like a sound bar. The newer flat screen models are
the ones we speak of, and most if not all have multiple modes of input and
output, making it a simple matter of plugging in a stereo cable or HDMI
cable and making the connection.

How does one get the audio from the TV into any other device. My TV (a
probably 25-year-old Zenith) has inputs for left, right, and video. It has
no outputs at all. All you get is the little internal speakers that are
(maybe) 24 inches apart. I also have another set (off brand) that I bought
about 14 years ago to catch girls. It has no connections, in or out.

Why yes music does sound epic on a surround sound system. That's one of the
things I did when testing the Bose Lifestyle V35. I played music on it. It's
cool how since it splits the audio among the 5 speakers, you get a lot more
detail. I played Tik Tok on it.

I agree with pretty much everything that Walter has written below, Soundbars
are a very convenient option, to illustrate the point let's take my
situation where I'm using a room with a small TV, I have a surround-sound
system in the lounge but don't want that in my Den, I just want something I
can use with my Television.

Using a Soundbar would mean very little set-up on my part to enjoy the
experience of Surround-Sound in a movie or from Channels on my Set Top Box
etc, no need to set-up individual speakers as I did in the lounge and so on.

It should be noted that - whatever system you used with your Television
these days - would improve the sound quality of your TV, the speakers in
those TV sets now are even worse than 2 tins, 1 on each end of a piece of
string.

There are several reasons for the bad audio quality, the most obvious being
that Television sets these days are getting to the point of being as thick
as a piece of cardboard thus good sound would really be defying the laws of
physics.

Hi Tom. It is like most things in life, you get what you pay for. If

If you have your hi-fi in your living room where you have the TV then
feeding the TV through the Hi-fi will greatly improve the sound quality.
I
think it should be noted here that Soundbars are designed to give a
particular cinematic sound and in my opinion if it is for listening to
music seriously then a good hi-fi is the better option. If though it
is to use with your TV or DVD then a soundbar is a good investment.
If you are going to spend a lot of money then you would be wise to
audition the soundbar first by visiting a reputable dealer. There are
soundbars to suit every pocket the sound quality will generally match
the price. Walter.

a voice. I then attach them to an email and port them over to my PC for

the recorders I have are 3 or more years in age, but they all work like
that. I guess perhaps some new changes have happened.

Re: Is the NCH audio software accessible?

2013-12-26 Thread Mike Thomas
I've used Express Burn for several years, and I find it totally accessible.
There is one area near the bottom that keeps track of how much space is on
the disk, and how much of that space you've marked files for burning. This
is only accessible via the Jaws cursor, or a simple script can be written.
Best of all, the program is free for the first two weeks or 15 days, so
you get to try it prior to buying it.

Hi list, Merry Christmas.

Would anyone here know about the accessibility of the software from NCH?
Specifically, I want to look into their Express Burn CD burning software,
if

it works on Windows 7 64 bit machines. If anyone's had experience using
this, would you please give me some pointers for getting the best use from
it? Windows Media Player seems a bit tricky for setting up a playlist to
burn to a CD; I use System Access for a screen reader but something's
wrong
with the Media Library in that it won't let me burn something to CD;
Support
can't help much in this case. I have tried Digital Jukebox from
Marvelsoft;

in that case yes, I can make the playlist and then go to the Project menu
and tell the program to burn the tracks to CD; a blank CD is in the drive,
but when I hit the okay button after I'm given the total playing time for
the tracks to burn the CD, the speech just goes silent and a message pops
up

that the dj.exe has stopped working and should be closed; I haven't heard
back from their tech support yet, maybe tomorrow after Christmas.
Meanwhile I'm wanting to find out more about Express Burn by NCH Software
to

find out if it's accessible with screen readers before I plunk down money
for it. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on this; also if
anyone has experience with Digital Jukebox by Marvelsoft I'm interested in
learning about experiences people had using it. thanks again and Merry
Christmas.

If I said "pressing enter," on something selects it or causes something
to happen, that is in error. If nothing is selected, press shift-f10 in
the context of the interface to your sound card from the appl in the
system tray, then you can find out which of the parts of your sound card
are made to show, or not show, e.g. "show disabled devices," or "show
disconnected devices."

The stereo Mix ability that was so easy to use in Windows XP, disappeared
with Windows 7. I wish there was a way also to trigger this sound ability
so that everything on the computer can be recorded. I imagine it was
removed to prevent folks from recording digital copies of copyrighted
materials. I searched google, and all I could find was things that said to
check for sound card driver updates. When that is done, I get your driver

Re: Select small clips for remixing

2013-08-22 Thread Michael Thomas
Yep, simply find the beginning of the sound clip and press that left bracket
key for a starting point, and let it play to the end, of what you want and
then press the right bracket to mark the end of the desired sound clip. You
can now cut it and paste it into another blank sound document, or you could
do what is called a trim by pressing control T. This removes everything
outside those brackets and leaves only what is inside. You should have set
up your goldwave program, that it plays only the part inside the brackets
when you press the space bar. This for me is the easiest way. There are a
few other settings that need tweaked, like unbounded recording so you're not
limited to the five minute limit, etc. If you need some help with this
stuff, please contact me off line and we can make some plans to chat you
through it.

Hi Reese, Brand new on the list, but let me help you with this. In
goldwave, simply listen to the point where you want the audio fade to begin.
Press the left bracket key to move the start point to that position. Now
your edit area is only that last five seconds. In the effects menu toward
the bottom is the volume option. In there is fade out. select that.
You'll probably want to use the preset, fade to zero lineal, Tab down to
preview it and if you like it, just tab to okay to make it permanent to
your file.

version worked best, or better put which is most stable. I know sometimes the
newist isnt always the best so I thought I would ask here to see which version
you guys liked. My system is running windows x p and jaws 6. Also I
understand that skype likes to take over your sound settings but this may be in
earlier versions? Or what steps should I take to not allow skype to change any
of my sound settings. Thanks for any and All responses! Sly!

I'm afraid your a little confused, as shoutcast itself is nothing more then
a protocol, the shoutcast server can serve any medium that one can write an
application for. As such no unique server is needed to stream to a cell
phone, simply lowering the bitrate or running a separate server with a

Hi All,
I thought nothing could be simpler, but when I sung my first track, things
started to go wrong. When I cam to play back, there was a huge gap at the
beginning. Then I recorded a second track, when I played back, I could hear
both, excellent. I added a third, but playing back I heard nothing. What is
the best way to set the track properties on each track? I assume that arming
a track for recording is the thing to do, but do I need to set anything
else. I'm using the audition scripts if this helps.

Many thanks for any assistance,

Dave.

Re: Audacity anyone?

2007-02-16 Thread Thomas Dalgaard
Hello Larry!

Do you need to change any options to audacity so it works better for blind
users?
I haven't figured out how to use the multi track system. Are there any work
arounds or strategies for Audacity for new users?

Thanks in advance.

SoundForge question

2007-02-15 Thread Thomas Dalgaard
Hello!

I am trying to record a music track which I'm playing myself on a soprano
recorder. I got a sound-file with a piano-song and I want to mix these two
together. But when I mix something goes down. The flute doesn't follow the
rhytm in the piano-file. If I record it live then nothing is wrongwith the
result.
What I do when recording the flute-file. I play the piano file and play along
it but I record the flute only. I am using the Winamp when playing the other
file. And afterwards I'm editing the other things away from the file. So the
flute is the only content.

What can I do to solve this problem`???

Thanks in advance for your help.
I use SoundForge 8.0D and JFW 6.2 without scripts.
Best regards

Problem when using SoundForge 8.Dusic

2007-02-13 Thread Thomas Dalgaard
Hello!
First of all I'm new to this list. I have some isues with the SoundForge 8.0D
program. When I'm going to mix two peaces of music together. For example a
flute or a piano (which I have as another audio-file on my computer). When
mixing these two together the flute is a bit faster than the piano. I've tried
several times with the same result. I tried then to play along with the piano
dirrectly and there is no different. Do you think that I should look at another
program to use for this purpose?

I'm using Windows Xp Home and Jaws 6.2.

Thanks for you answer.

Best regards

Subject: Instant Replay Software

Hi David,

I work for the local Radio Reading service of Central Massachusetts.
When I'm not doing the 9 to 5 thing I volunteer my time to host a radio
program that covers a wide variety of blind related issues. The station is
not net based and therefore I am not using Shoutcast. Simply put all of my
broadcasts go from an analog board directly out over the airwaves. While the
majority of my shows are prerecorded which gives me the ability to place
nutty sound clips or effects after the fact I am planning on doing some live
broadcasts. My plan was to plug my computer directly into the board and turn
it into an instant replay machine which would give me the ability to play
clips or sounds on the fly. I use winamp as my default player and am running
Jaws 7.0. I guess I could just create a play list of clips I want to use on
the fly but having to arrow through a list and select the sound I want to
play seems like a bit of a pain. If I could trigger each sound clip assigned
to individual hot keys it would be a cleaner and quicker approach when
accessing the files. You had mentioned that assigning hot keys to specific
clips may be something that could be accomplished with scripting. That's a
most interesting idea. If you have any further input on how this could be
accomplished please let me know. Feel free to contact me off list if you
like.

Thanks,

Jay

Hi Mate,

Tell me more about your Broadcasting set-up. If you are using Jaws, this

could easily be done with scripting. I am guessing you are using Winamp and

the shoutcast plugin with one sound card using the what you hear as the

input?

Greetings folks,
I am seeking your input with regard to accessible instant replay
software. I host a humble little radio program and would like the ability to
instantly play a few wacky sound effects on the fly. I am seeking a program
that would allow me to line up 5 to 10 short sound clips and play each clip
at the push of a button. For example, if I had ten sound clips each clip
would be assigned it's own hot key. Every time I hit any one of these ten
hot keys the corresponding clip would instantly play. In the old days DJ's
used to use cart machines and today use digital jingle machines to
accomplish this task. While some of these digital devices are semi
accessible, most are ridiculously expensive. After consulting the net I
noticed that several companies sell software that simulate cart machines or
today's digital equivalent. I downloaded various demo's of this type of
software only to discover that nun of them are even remotely
accessible with a screen reader. If anyone knows of a program that would
allow me to play sound clips at the push of a button, or has a solution to
my
inquiry, I would appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Jay

particular folder where I want all files to be played, it only will play one
track. I tried the control .v. command and winamp says stop after current
track is not activated. I cannot figure this out. Is it a winamp thing or
a windows x p problem? Any help is much Appreciated!. Take Care! Sly!

my hard drive to each one I want to add to a playlist, and click on enqueue
in winamp, they get added to a playlist just fine. I can then save the
playlist, and all is well. Seems to me, that would be the easiest way to
create a playlist, in any case - not requiring one even to play the tracks,
but just to enqueue them.

RQJ,

That technique used to work for me. but it no longer does. Each time I click
on a file, play it, and check the playlist, it has only one entry, the last
played track. I suspect I have to change some setting relating to
"enqueuing" the files. Do you know what that would be? Thanks.

Re: total recorder chooseing defualt file format and fequency and bit rate

2005-11-05 Thread Sylvester Thomas
Hello! open up the total recorder program. then tab thru the buttons until
you see one that reads recording source and parameters. Select this option.
Then a new list of buttons will come up. You can tab thru these until you
reach one that reads recording parameters change button. Select this option.
This is where you tab along to change the options you are asking about.

Save or Save As in Total Recoder Question?

2004-10-28 Thread Sylvester Thomas
Greetings! I am using Total Recorder Standard Edition, and wondered if when I save a
file what the difference was between choosing the save or the save as options when
saving a file? I noticed when I use save as the file is saved as a winamp file and I
am not sure how to re load it into Total Recorder to work with it. So I wondered if I
need to use the save option as opposed to the save as option? I hope this makes
sense. I have a file on my desktop I created called recordings and would like to keep
all my files there until I need to re load them into the recorder for splitting and
such. Well Thanks for Any and All Help in this matter! Take Care! Sly
