Winamp questions
Hello fellow pc-audio listers: I hope that you all have had a nice Christmas and that 2013 will be good to you. I wanted to ask you guys about Winamp. I recently downloaded version 5.63, which I've heard is very accessible with Windows xp and Windows 7. However, after listening to a discussion about Winamp on an old episode of Mainn Menu from the ACB Radio archive, one of the broadcasters said, that Winamp has a weird querkyness about it. They said, that When you're playing a long playlist of items, and try to insert a track into the list, instead of placing the track below the one that's currently playing, Winamp will instead place the track at the bottom of the playlist, which may not be where you want it to go. Being that the episode of Main Menu I listened to goes way back to April 17 2000, the information I heard might no longer be relevant. For any of you who use Winamp for either broadcasting and/or personal listening, is there any way to fix Winamp, so that it will place newly inserted tracks into their proper place in a playlist? Also, is there a cart machine plug-in for Winamp, that allows users to play sound effects and radio station jingles? I know that Station Playlist Studio can do all of this, but in case I'm not able to get my hands on a copy of Playlist Studio, I might end up having to use Winamp for broadcasting. I'm not giving up on getting Studio just yet, but if I should need to, I'll have to use Winamp as an alternative. Thanks. Mike Rochester, NY. creating hyper links for audio files
I recorded some audio files to which I'd like to send to someone via email. I can create a hyper link within word that would take someone to a webpage, but don't know how to create one for anything else. For example, when you go to either blindcooltech.com, or blind-geek-zone.net, as you know, when you hit enter on any of the names of the mp3 files it will automatically launch your media player. That's the type of link I'd like to create. I can't create hyper links directly within my email program, so what I'm going to have to do, is open the document to which I want to enter the hyper links into, which already exists, insert the links, and then copy-paste the whole thing into the body of my email to the recipient. How do I create a hyper link so that when the recipient presses enter or clicks on it within the email message, it will launch their media player thus, allowing them to hear what I've recorded. I've tried googleing this, but all I seem to be able to find are articles pertaining to people who want to add links to their webpage or blog, which goes beyond what I'm trying to do. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Note, although I am efficient with the computer, I have to be honest when I say, I don't understand technical jargon. So please try to keep things simple. broadcasting software
hello fellow listers: I'm planning to join the team of djs at mushroomFM sometime in the near future. I've finally got a mic, all I need now, is the necessary broadcasting software. I'm trying to decide between Stationplaylist Studio and Winamp. I've heard that both programs are capable of broadcasting content online. The only trouble is, I'm on a tight budgit, and can't aford expensive equipment. Have any of you ever used either of these two programs? if so, what's it like to use them? Are either of them accessible with a screen reader? I'm basically looking for software that will allow me to turn the mic on and off at any point during the show, and be able to talk over the music and get a balance between my voice and the audio going out over the air. I know this can be done with an audio mixer, but I don't have one. Is having one necessary to broadcast online? Finally, does anyone know of a software program that I could use as a virtual cart machine to play sound effects? Thanks. Mike Rochester, NY. WavePad not accessible
Hi everybody, I received my brand-new Blue Yeti Microphone in the mail over the weekend from Sweetwater Sound Inc. Its actually smaller than I thought it to be. I imagined it to be a huge complicated looking thing. Well, it is a bit bulky, and it does have a bit of a heft to it, but its small enough to fit here on my desk without getting in the way. At some point in the near future, I'm going to see about joinning the team of djs at Mushroomfm.com, and this is the mike to which I'll be using on air. So while I have the time, I'd like to make some test recordings with this Mike and play them back, so that I can get a feel as to how my voice will sound coming through both headphones as well as my computer speakers. This way, I can hear what my voice will sound like over the air to the listeners, or at least get an idea. I did a test recording with Skype's call testing service using the Yeti, and it sounds quite clear from what I can tell through headphones. I also tried to record my voice using WavePad, but I've found that its not as accessible as I thought. Have any of you ever tried using WavePad? I can load an existing file and play it, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to make recordings. The buttons appear to be inaccessible. For any of you, who have used WavePad before, are there any hotkeys I can use to start and stop a recording? if not, do you know of a sound editor program, that's accessible with a screen reader? I'm using Windows xp home, with Window-eyes. Thanks for any help you can provide me. Mike Rochester, NY. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Itunes download?
Hi everyone, I'd like to download the (Windows) version of Itunes on my computer. However, when I go to the Apple site, there doesn't appear to be a link to download the software anywhere. How do I download Itunes? and what do the terms 64-bit Windows and 32-bit Windows mean? I've herd these terms being tossed around on the GW Info mailing list from time to time, and all I can gather, is that these terms have something to do with Windows. I have absolutely no clue as to what this jargon means. On the Apple site, there's a link called Itunes 64-bit installer, but I'm not sure if this is the version I'm supposed to download, and I don't want to run the risk of downloading something only to find out later, that it doesn't work with my version of Windows. Any ideas? Mike Rochester, NY. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
placing a blank cdr into the cd/dvdrw drive
One of you who had replied had asked what I was planning to burn. I intend to burn a standard audio cd, that can be plaied in any cd player, and the type of files I'd be burning to disk, are just standard music mp3 files. Mike Rochester, NY. placing a blank cdr into the cd/dvdrw drive
Hello fellow pc-audio list members: I'm thinking about trying my hand at burning an audio cd from the mp3 files I have stored on my computer. However, before I do that, I just have a couple of questions: 1. I've heard, that when you put a cd into your cd/dvd drive, a window pops up, asking you what you want windows to do, and it gives you four choices: a take no action b open windows explorer folder, (or something like that) and I can't remember what the other two options are at the moment. Which of these four options should I select? Thanks. Mike Rochester, NY. P.S. I'm using windows xp home edition. universal headset microphones
Hello fellow pc-audio listers: Being that I don't speak technical jargon, this is a bit hard for me to explain. So, I'll do the best I can, and hopefully, you'll understand what I'm talking about. I'm looking for a headset microphone combo, to which I can use both on the computer and on my boombox and/or stereo. On the front of my computer's tower, there are two small plugs that are side by side. I believe one is called line-in, and the other is called line-out, or something to that effect. Anyway, when you feel them, they feel like headphone jacks. Most stereo headphones, such as the ones found on portable cd players have a 3.5 centermeter adapter on the end, that plugs perfectly into the type of headphone jacks I've mentioned above. So, here's my question. Can any of you recommend a good stereo headset microphone, that's universal? meaning I can plug it into the computer using the 3.5 centermeter adapters, when doing things on the computer, and also be able to plug it into other devices as well if necessary. Is there any particular brand of headsets that work better than others? I know its a bit open ended, but I hope my question makes some kind of sense. Thanks in advance for your help. an app for unzipping .zip files
Hey guys, I know this is probably not pc-related, but being that I'm a pc user only, I know nothing about Apple's stuff, and therefore, don't know where else to turn for info. My friend just got herself a new Ipad, and is looking for an app (whatever that is), that she can use to unzip .zip files directly on the Ipad 2. Does such an app exist and do any of you know where she could get it?Thanks for any help. Mike Rochester, NY. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
vlc media player tutorial
Hello everyone, Does anyone know where I can find an audio tutorial that demonstrates using vlc media player? I know that Blind Cool tech had someone record a two-part podcast about it back in 2006, but as with many of their podcast links, the links no longer work. So, I was just wondering, if there were any audio tutorials regarding the use of this software available anywhere online. questions about usb headset microphones
Hello fellow pc-audio list members, I'm looking to purchase a microphone for my computer; preferably a headset microphone, that opporates via usb with the mute switch that allows the user to easily turn the mic on and off, and that I can use for both broadcasting and recording. The ones offered by Plantronics, appear to be quite expensive. Could any of you recommend a good usb headset microphone, that I could purchase, that will not only provide a professional sound, but won't be too expensive? and if you know of one, do you know where I could buy it? Thanks in advance. Mike Rochester, NY. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
cd ripping successful!
Hello everyone, Well, I tried ripping an audio cd to my computer this afternoon, and it all worked out successfully. However, just for clairification, I read something in a windows media player guide that stated that the start/stop command for starting and stopping the ripping process, was Alt S. The guide I read, asumes that the reader is using Jaws. However, I'm a Window-eyes user. So, is the Alt S command a Jaws thing? or is it a Windows Media Player command. Mike Rochester, NY. questions about cd ripping
Hello fellow pc-audio listers, I have some brief questions regarding ripping audio cds. 1. On an audio tutorial I listened to, the narator stated that you should hold down the shift key while inserting the cd. What exactly will this action do? 2. Should I press and hold down the shift key after I close the cd drive tray? or should I hold it down as the drive tray is closing. 3. After doing this, will this cause the auto run feature in windows to be perminatly disabled? and how long should I hold down the shift key? 4. If I set windows media player to (always), I know that it will automatically begin copying the tracks from the cds I insert, however, even with this option set to always, do I still have to have windows media player running when I insert the cd? problems with Adobe Flash Player
Hello everyone, I currently have Adobe Flash Player 10 active X installed on my pc. However, it doesn't seem to work at all. There's a cermon I listen to on Sunday mornings, on tfhny.org. I've suggested to the church who owns the site, that they could provide other options in addition to Adobe Flash, so that people who either didn't have, or couldn't use Adobe Flash Player, would have a variety of media players to choose from, when listening to the stream. My suggestion was well excepted. It may take some time though, before they're able to include these options on the site. So for now, I have to use Adobe Flash Player to listen. As I stated above, the current version I have doesn't work very well. When I go to the main page of the site, there's a link almost mid-way down the page that says, (live church). If you click on this on any Sunday morning between 8:30 A.M, and 1:30P.M Eastern time, a new window opens, and within a matter of seconds or so, you'll hear the stream. With older versions of the player, there was never a problem, the audio would start up right away. But with this version, I hear nothing. Is there anything I can do to fix this? or should I just upgrade to a newer version. I don't really keep up with Adobe Flash, is there a newer version available? If so, where can I go to download it? Just to make sure that my question is stated clearly, I'm trying to listen to a live stream, using Adobe Flash Player 10 Active X, but I can't hear the audio of the stream and I'd like to know what I can do to get it to play. Mike Rochester, NY. PS. I'm using windows xp home. At first, I thought that it was just a browser problem. I've tried listening to the stream on this site using both Internet Explorer 7, which is what I currently have, and Firefox 3.5, but I still can't get the audio to play. Hi, I'm a new list member
Hello,I just subscribed to the pc-audio mailing list today, and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mike. I live in the western New York area, Rochester, NY. to be exact. Although I have good computer skills, I’m no computer geek. I serve as a volunteer dj at a local community college, to which I’m also a student of here in Rochester. I’m interested in learning about how to burn audio cds, so that I can supplement my existing physical cd library. I'm currently using Windows xp and Windows media player 11. To be completely honest, I've never, ever burnt a cd before in my life, and don't know the first thing about doing that stuff. Sometimes digital technology can be very overwhelming, even for a young person like myself. If any of you have ever done it, could someone give me step-by-step instructions, as to an accessible way to burn audio cds that will play in any cd player, using wmp 11? The screen reader I’m currently using, is Window-eyes 6.1. Basically, I'd like to know how to burn an audio cd in wmp 11 using just the keyboard itself, I'd prefer not to mess with the mouse. Finally, in windows media player 11, I’ve noticed, that in the burn menu, I am given four options for the speed of the burning process: 1. fastest 2. fast 3. medium 4. slow. Is it necessary to adjust the burn speed? And also in the drop-down menu within this same dialog, it says, “add a list of all burned files to the disc in this format. The top-most option in this menu, is .wpl, and it’s selected by default. What does this mean? I'm looking forward to talking with all of you on the list. Mike Rochester, NY. P.S. Just for clairification, are the built-in utility found in Windows xp and windows media player two different programs? Or is the utility part of windows media player. I already know, that windows media player automatically inserts seconds of silence between audio tracks, but is there any way to turn that option off? For example, what if I’m burning an album, which already has seconds of silence between the tracks. Is there any way to prevent the player from inserting silence between tracks when burning?
