FM transmitter recommendation needed

2005-05-04 Thread TuneCollector
I am totally blind and want to broadcast from my computer to my stereo
in the next room. My FM antenna is outside about 50 feet away and the
signal from the computer will have to go thru two walls, not including
the roof. Neither moving the computer or the antenna is practical. Any
recommendations? C Crane? Ramsey Electronics?

I use a Veronica transmitter available from www.veronica.co.uk and I
am very happy with it. I also bought a power supply from Veronica
that cuts out a lot of the static that could be heard when using the
transmitter. They have a range of transmitters with different power
levels so you need to make sure you have a transmitter that conforms
to the regulations of your country regarding output power etc.

There is also a transmitter known as the Ramsy. A lot of people are
quite convinced with it. It is available from a company called
Hobbytron.com. I believe I still have some info on it, so if anyone
wants it I can look for it. I have been very happy with the Veronica
for over three years.

You might also go to the acbradio website for a Main Menu review. i
can't

the C

Thank you for your e-mail inquiry.
Two walls and ceiling and roof are not going to work. Somehow you will
need to get the FM transmitter near the antenna, or the receiver that
you want to use to receive the signal. Also if your antenna is a Yagi
type or other directional antenna and is pointed away from your FM
Transmitter you will still likely have a problem. Is the reason you
want to use the outside antenna, because it feeds several receivers? If
so you will still have to try to get the FM Transmitter on that side of
the house, maybe even outside under the eve with an audio cable and
power running to it, and protected from the elements somehow. The point
is the FM Transmitter was not necessarily designed to work in those
elements. I hope this helps.

Hi All,

I had pretty much settled on purchasing an Iriver portable player, when I
discovered that I might be able to get my hands on an Archos Jukebox 20. My
understanding is that this Archos player can be made very
accessible, if I download and install firmware from www.rockbox.com. I'm
hoping that people on this list have experience with Archos products and
whether the alternative firmware from Rockbox really works. Is this
older technology that I should stay away from?

If so, can anyone suggest a player with a significant amount of storage
capacity that I can setup without sighted assistance and whose features are
accessible?

I would really appreciate any information and purchasing suggestions
regarding these players.

Thanks.

The FM transmitter sends a signal from your computer to your stereo receiver
and not to your computer.. It can also broadcast from any portable audio
device that has a headphone jack. But again, the signal is going to your FM
receiver, not to your computer. These transmitters are small affairs,
smaller than a pack of cigarettes. You can find them at Veronica, C Crane,
Ramsey Electronics, and Blackbox Mobile. Some allow you to transmit on any
FM channel you wish while others have preset channels. It takes no
sophistication at all to use these things. If you need more specifis,
contact me off-list.

RE: USB fm transmitter info needed

2005-07-18 Thread tunecollector
My situation was this: I had to transmit a signal 60 feet thru two walls as
well as a ceiling and roof to an outside antenna. The C Crane product and
the Ramsey product could not do this according to both of their tech
departments which I had contacted. Beronica had a transmitter that could
transmit this strong but they could only ship this from England,
unassembled and then I would have to solder it together. I bought the
Blackbox Mobile off eBay for around $60 including tax and shipping. It
works great and is very simple to use. Its only drawback is that it has
just 4 preset channels, all four being around 107 Mhz. If that is a crowded
corridor for you, the Blackbox may not be right for you. The blackbox is a
plastic rectangle, about three quarters thick and three inches wide and
maybe 4 inches long. The antenna is just a thin wire about 20 inches long.
There's an on-off button and a toggle to the four presets. You plug it into
the earphone jack of device you are transmitting from. It runs off three
[?] double A batteries.

It is pretty basic and accessibility should not be an issue. You plug the
transmitter into the headphone jack on any device and it transmits a signal
to your stereo receiver. Then you tune your stereo to that signal.

IPOD GIRDS FOR PORN

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Internet's treasure trove of television
shows, pirated movies and explicit adult material is about to become
iPod-friendly.

Guba, a subscription search engine, plans to begin converting video
files from the Internet's thousands of newsgroups so they can be played
on the video iPod that Apple Computer (AAPL) recently unveiled.

"Guba.com has built a strong and profitable business over the last
seven years by providing our subscribers with the best in rich media
search," said Thomas McInerney, the company's chief executive, in a news
release. He said it indexes 300,000 files a day and converts them to
standard formats that can be viewed by streaming or downloaded as a
file. "We can kid ourselves, but in the end it's probably porn that
people want," McInerney told Wired News.

However, published reports about Guba's plans prompted it to stop doing
business on Thursday. "Due to the overwhelming response to features in
recent press, Guba is unable to process transactions at this time.
Please rest assured that we are doing everything in our power to solve
these issues as quickly as possible," said a notice on its Web site.

McInerney said Guba will remove content if the copyright owner makes a
request. He also said the search service blocks MP3 music files,
"because there has been so much litigation about music." By constrast,
television programs like Comedy Central's "Daily Show" and ABC's
"Desperate Housewives" are offered "because the TV guys seem to
understand the Internet," he noted.

MYSPACE.COM TO LAUNCH A MUSIC LABEL

One of the most popular online Web sites for artists and musicians is
going offline to grow. MySpace.com, acquired by News Corp. (NWS)
(NWS.A) earlier this year, will release a CD on its own label featuring
major, indie-label and unsigned artists. MySpace.com is a social
networking site, with a music section that includes Web pages for more
than 500,000 artists and bands.

CEO Chris DeWolfe said MySpace.com has become more than a Web site.
"It's become a lifestyle brand," he told the Hollywood Reporter. "Radio
has become less and less important. MySpace, by getting so huge, can
truly move the needle in terms of musical tastes." DeWolfe said the new
label will sign and market artists, and Interscope Records, part of
Universal Music Group (V), will handle manufacturing the CDs.
___

ONLINE MUSIC SALES DISAPPOINT

While the market for Apple's iPod has been growing steadily, sales of
digital music tracks have shown virtually no growth. Nielsen SoundScan,
owned by Holland's VNU (VNUVF), reported that while weekly download
sales in May totaled 6.6 million songs, triple that of a year ago,
that's where they have stayed, Bloomberg News reported. "Digital
optimism seems to be crashing down on itself," said Simon Baker, a media
analyst with SG Securities in London. "Downloads in the U.S. have
alarmingly plateaued," he told the news service. "This has devastating
implications." And as CD sales have been falling, music industry
executives now worry that digital sales will not make up the difference,
never mind helping to grow the market.

THE LIFE OF A TEENAGER: BLOGGING, DOWNLOADING

A survey of American teenagers found that nearly 20% have their own

November 2004 and released Thursday by the Pew Internet & American Life
