Re: an accessible dvd playing software

2013-03-02 Thread Gary King
I'm talking about Media Player Classic Home Cinema. It doesn't play the
Blue Ray format as far as I can tell. I had to use an OEM version of Power
DVD that came with my computer to play Avatar in that format. The
descriptive Video was available only in the Blue Ray format, and I wouldn't
have gained much from the movie without description.

Has anyone noticed that even with the FCC mandate, the TV shows that need it
the most, the action shows, don't have descriptive video. Last Resort and
Revolution are 2 examples of shows that really needed descriptive video.
The only way to find out the details of what happened in these shows if you
were watching them alone was to read the recaps.

DVD playing

2005-05-21 Thread Peter Scanlon
I have little experience with playing DVD's on my computer or on a mini hi
fi system I have.

I have just purchased the movie Ray with audio description.

I try to run it in Windows Media and Power DVD with little success.

All I can get is a short audio track of Georgia On My Mind. I don't know
if video goes with this.

How can I access the rest of the movie?

How do I accesss the Audio Description. In Windows Media, I have explored
the menus and find one sub menu which give a choice about Visually Impaired
but it is not available.

I don't see menues in Power DVD.
I don't get any further on my Mini Hi Fi system.

Re: Accessible DVD playing software.

2005-03-26 Thread Brian Olesen
Hi Denis,
Well a movie today is made up of the main movie, extras and a setup menu, and
some times much more.
It's these menus I'm talking about.
Normally but not always the main movie is the first menu item placed in the top
of the menu.

Best regards
Brian

 HI Brian,

What are you referring to as dvd menus, the ones that are bitmaps? What
are they supposed to do? In Windvd Menus are accessible by hitting letter
B--things like options, play, stop, select language etc.

 Best regards,

 Denis

Hi Jim,
Actually there are 2 ok solutions.
1. Microsoft Windows mediaplayer 10 and Cyberlink Powerdvd.

I have and use both, but still don't know which one I prefer. Dvd menus as they
appear on the movie are not accessible. You can activate them with both
programs, but not read them as they are just bitmaps.

Best regards
Brian

It would be a good idea to have the player set to download codecs
automatically, because that could be the cause of your problem with playing
dvd's.
Take an extra moment when you find yourself at piece, to think about your
values, and your own affluency.

Dave and Andrea; PowerDVD has many hotkeys which help in using it
easier. The plus and minus keys control the volume.

Raul, do you have a file on the Jaws-specific hot keys for Power DVD or is
there a help section somewhere in the program which has the Jaws hot keys
listed? Thanks for your help.

hi, i've noticed this same thing in just about any player i've tried! i
too
have fiddled with every volume control i can find and it's no better. i
have
noticed though, if i rip the audio from a dvd, the volume of the resulting
mp3 or which ever format, is much higher than it was when just playing it.

When I play a DVD movie I notice that the volume is somewhat down. Is this
normal? I have had a poke round through the configuration menu and there
doesn't appear to be a way to increase the volume either in Nero Showtime
or
PowerDVD.

getting dvd to play all the way through/Re: DVD Playing

2005-01-23 Thread Joanne
I am new to playing DVD's and have both Power DVD and Windows Media
Player which will play these. I tried using Power DVD and am not sure of
the Jaws commands to make it play all the way through. This DVD has several
episodes on it and I thought there might be away to make it play all the
episodes, as you'd play all tracks on a CD by simply hitting play. But only
one episode plays and it stops. Are there some good tutorials for Power DVD
working with Jaws and what key commands to use?
