No, Dane. The batteries I have are the same ones you have. They are rechargeable but hold their charge for a long time. Regarding the battery issue I was having. I wasn't aware of the fact that the manual suggests you take batteries out ... But I strongly suspect that the unit isn't expected to drain an entire AA battery within 12 hours when it is switched off. Would you expect that behaviour? Re: Question about the Zoom H1 recorder
In my view they're the best advance we've had in consumer battery technology in the last 30 years. I've been using mine for the last 4 months nearly and they haven't missed a beat but then again I was brought up by the old school in battery thinking, flatten them then charge them then flatten em again then charge em smile. Re: Question about the Zoom H1 recorder
I only had the printed manual and perhaps manual isn't the best way to describe it because there's nothing much to read smile but at least I got that useful scrap of information smile. Once again my hearing aids with their induction pickups came to the rescue, you see they told me that the Zoom was taking current from the battery even when the power was off. Given the fact that recording time with the Zoom is about 8 hours then it makes perfect sense to carry around backup batteries with you anyway so this whole thing about batteries draining when the power was off was a trivial matter as far as I was concerned at any rate. Re: Question about the Zoom H1 recorder
The Zoom H1 recorder is probably the easiest recorder for anyone to use which has ever been invented, its only some poor unfortunates who make it hard or impossible by making mountains out of mole hills, I've received a lot of private email on this subject and you just wouldn't believe the stuff I've read. One person wrote that he wouldn't buy one because it wasn't accessible, accessible?Well if you can use a cassette recorder then you can certainly use a Zoom H1 and if its not accessible then nothing ever will be. Yes of course the Zoom H1 has some problems and one I think worth noting concerns the buttons on the side of the recorder, they're rather small so if you have bing fingers then that may be tricky however, the developers of the recorder - when you look at the size of the unit - had little choice so if you want small? Well sacrifices have to be made somewhere. One great feature of this recorder is its output amp, incredibly powerful, clear and loud so I can only assume that this recorder uses a digital amp of some kind. I can understand the theory of that. The batteries I have are made by Sanyo and they are supposed to retain 80% of their charge for up to 12 months but I'd certainly be interested in these other type you mention, what's the MA rating etc. On 18/11/2010, at 11:16 AM, tim cumings wrote: Dane I have a set of these hybrid batteries which are a combination nickel metal hydride and alkaline battery, so that they are rechargeable while not losing power when not in use. Well my way around it is to use rechargeable batteries and I use those which hold their charge for over 12 months so I always have one ready and as I don't rely on the time and date stamp function I very rarely ever have a battery in the Zoom H1 unless I'm recording. Re: Question about the Zoom H1 recorder
No this can't be done, all the hardware's there though so perhaps Zoom may - in the future - release a firmware upgrade to allow this functionality. The Zoom H2 can be used as a sound device when connected to a computers USB port.
