Hi, I also have no problem with Netflix on PC, my android media box, or Galaxy S4. Hi, I tried it on the PC today, on Android and on iOS. No trouble. I completely understand pushing for better accessibility, but where's the point on an already accessible platform? RE: netflicks
Steve, Did you browse categories on ios or did you just search for something using the edit box? I haven't tried it on Android recently, but with ios, there is this weird slide thing you have to do in order to get stuff on the screen so you can double tap what you want. Flicking and finding the title does not work, because focus does not follow as you flick through items that are actually off the screen. The regular voice over with ios way of scrolling doesn't work either. Last time I tried it on Android, browsing didn't work either for the same reason; you can't flick through to see all the stuff in a given category you're trying to browse. But as I say, I have not tried that in a long time, so perhaps they fixed it on Android? Various people on other lists I'm on have also reported issues with trying to find specific episodes within a season of a tv show. So when we say stuff is or isn't accessible, then maybe it will help to specify the actions that were taken or the part of the app that was used, so we're all on the same page. Mary
RE: netflicks
Hi Mary, Android is fine when browsing through categories and I can even select episodes. As for iOS, I believe that is an iOS 8 bug, not a problem of Netflix. There are several apps where VO doesn't follow focus. RE: netflicks
Hi Steve, Nope, Apple have fixed the VO focus problem. This netflix issue predates ios 8 by a long, long time. There is a podcast on applevis done by somebody who goes over the convoluted way you must deal with netflix category browsing if you can get the hang of it. Even with the vo bug in ios8, for those apps that had the flicking problem, it was still possible to use the standard VO gesture to get to the page you wanted and then find the link or button or whatever to double tap. That can't be done with netflix, so far as I am aware, unless you master the unorthodox, dare I say, nonstandard, method Netflix has chosen for its app. Mary
RE: netflicks
Hi Mary, I disagree that the VO focus problems are fixed. I have seen it occur in several apps. RE: netflicks
Which apps? The focus problem I was referring to was the one where you couldn't access an item by flicking to it, if the item wasn't actually showing on the screen. So you thought you had focus because VO said the thing you wanted, but double tapping didn't do what you expected. That has been fixed in the apps I use. Netflix, on the other hand, has had this nonstandard way mf scrolling that has been problematic for Voice over since at least IOS7. If you're talking about the occasional focus screw ups that happen, not involving flicking from one item to the next, then I agree. There can still be problems. But this seems to be intermittant, only happening on certain sites, for instance, when using the twitterific built in browser, but not on others. The system-wide flicking focus problem is fixed, at least for me. If you still have problems, I'd be curious what apps. Mary
Re: netflicks?
The only thing that works for me when streaming movies from NetFlix is using the enter key to pause and start the movie. If I pause a movie part way through, and close out Netflix and come back later and load the same movie, it picks up where it left off. Your mileage may vary, but this works for me. Things like rewinding or fast forwarding seem to be totally inaccessible as far as I can tell.
