Re: gold wave scripts for jaws

2015-07-27 Thread Vicky Vaughan
Hi Josef, I'm sorry that I did not recognize you at first tonight in the Tec
room.

May I ask you, where did you learn how to script? Did you take special
training or are you self taught?

I was absolutely no good at scripting. I took a Corse where we were to
wright some very simple scripts and I found it very difficult. I really
didn't understand what was happening. I could not follow the cause and
effect of it.

I think from what you were saying tonight, is that you wright scripts using
or for NVDA? Is that right? Have you written scripts for Goldwave, but for
the screen reader of NVDA?

It was really nice to now hear the voice of someone whom I previously only
knew threw email.

Bye bye for now, Vicky

Hello,

Any pointers on where to look to solve the following:

I've configured my system to use the line in jack as the default recording
device and ensured that this is also what Gold Wave shows it will be
using.

I've verified that line in recording works through sound recorder and the
device I want to record.

Yet when I go to record in Gold Wave, line in is not what is getting
recorded. Instead it is the audio of whatever screen reader I'm using at
the time.

Thanks,

Kelly

Re: Gold Wave: Changing amount of bass /treble boost in Gold Wave batch converter

2012-01-23 Thread Dave bahr
you can do it by going to the batch converter and look for the tab
called, process. you can then add effects and change them to your
liking. It's in a tree view which is accessible and then I think it
gives you the standard dialogues for changing the parameters. hth

choose maximize. You can then
use your jaws cursor to find the place in the file with the highest peak. You

First tip is to take a few minutes to read the appropriate sections in the
manual, the document is well laid out and is accessible through the Goldwave
Help menu, your browser will load with the manual so just select the sections
you wish to read by following the links.

Now this is only me but I don't use Goldwave for recording myself as I find
there are better alternatives for "Recording", I use Goldwave for editing of
course .

Again, only my opinion.

Re: gold wave and recording meter query

2010-07-18 Thread Ann

 Hi Roger,

Have you tried holding down the Control key when your recording has begun ?

once the sound starts, hold down the Control key for a few seconds,
Release the Control key,
Press Alt+F6 to get in to the Control window,
Tab or shift tab until Jaws says something like "read only Edit: Record "xxx"
This should give you your recording time, plus the recording level. You can
press the D key while in this Read Only box to switch the meter display between
decibels and percentages.

Hope that works for you.

Re: Gold Wave VS Total Recorder On Changing Bit Rate

2010-01-20 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hi Don and list: Well..I don't know if I mean "sampling rate" or "bit rate"
(I was trying to bring it up to a level where the VIP Conduit chat site's
"music player" would play it (it's kind of finicky about what it'll
play)..if the (I think this is what I mean)..bit rate is small, it doesn't
seem to know how to deal with it..and will just "lock up!" But what you're
saying means perfect sense to me (certain programs (sound editors)..work
better in different situations. As I stated earlier: I mainly got Total
Recorder so I could record different shows..especially works in situations
where I'm not going to be here! I recently learned (thanks in part to this
list)..learned how to use Total Recorder to change and convert files. But
apparently (as Robert pointed out)..when it comes to changing the bit rate
(if that's the term)..you have more of a margin to work with in Gold Wave!

Re: Gold Wave VS Total Recorder On Changing Bit Rate

2010-01-20 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Perhaps I am missing something; however, are we talking
about changing the sampling rate; or, are we talking about
changing the playback rate, whatever it is called? I ask
because with Goldwave, I can record an NLS cassette playing
at 3.5 inches per second (which is four times the playback
rate). I will record with Goldwave using a bit rate of 64
khz. Then when I playback that recording with Goldwave, I
change the playback rate to 16 KHZ and the recording plays
at the normal speed. With total recorder, I do not have
this option. I love Total Recorder but prefer Goldwave in
this instance.

One little foot note. With recent versions of Goldwave, I
no longer see the V U meter as I did in previous versions.
Conversely, Total Recorder's V U meter is wonderfully
accessible. So my point is that I use different sound
editors contingent on the task at hand. By the way, if you
have it, studio recorder is also an excellent audio editor.
Some folks love Sound Forge, but I have always felt it is
over priced although it has a lot of features.

Subject: Gold Wave VS Total Recorder On Changing Bit Rate

Hello list: Hopefully this won't take too long to explain..but I ran
across an interesting problem: I had a file I needed to change the bit
rate on, so I could play it in VIP's "Chat client (in it's original form,
it would not play in that chat window) I said "no problem; will just run
it through "Total Recorder and all will be well!" Not so! I tried
lowering; I tried raising..no soap! But I have a friend who has "Gold
Wave"..and he converted it to a bit rate that was suitable for this
particular chat client (works just fine!" So my conclusion: Total
Recorder doesn't give you the same amount of "bit rate choices" as Gold
Wave! Is this accurate? I've never had ""Gold Wave" on my system before,
so know nothing about it! But after this experience (if what I'm thinking
is true)..this might give me a reason to go get "Gold Wave!" Thanks for
listening..and hope someone can shed some light on this; hopefully I've
explained it clearly enough!

Dennis: Thanks for the tip on that..may just do that! I just figured that
Total Recorder would do the same thing as Gold Wave (I mainly bought Total
Recorder for the purpose of recording things from the internet..which it
does well. But having the ability to convert files to different formats..or
changing bit rates is a nice "plus"..aw but it may not be giving me as many
options with changing the atrtributes as Gold Wave might! Again..thanks!

Hi.
I'm having problems with gold wave. When I run it, it causes dinging noises
to be played when I play a sound. I'm using jaws 9.0. I have the scripts
1.56 or something like that. They have support for zoom level which doesn't
seam to work very well. They are very sluggish and always want to say no
file is selected when I do something like copy the selection, or say no
sound in clipboard when I go to paste, when there actually was a sound. In
addition gold wave's text interfeers with all other open programs when gold
wave is running and after I close it until I close jaws. Also it seams to be
messing up edit fields like the subject edit field in outlook express aven
after that until a reboot, across multiple jaws restarts. It is very close
to impossible to use gold wave on this xp laptop, and the same seams to be
happening even without the scripts or with jaws8 running. Any ideas? I don't
think gold wave on my vista laptop does this.

Thanks Rick. I have listened to a little of your tutorials and will listen
to more and then listen again, and again. It is going to take some work to
get the mastery of it and I don't know what will come first, insanity or
accomplishment. If the former then I should invest in lots of soft
furnishings particularly padding for the walls. I fear that as time goes by
I will need to post more questions.

Hi. Can someone help. I am very new to sound editing, only a few days in

file and place marker points in that file and want to read the time
information I only get partial information. I get all the information up to
the point when it says stereo but no time information regarding the marker
points. It is insert & numpad 3 I press isn't it? this is what I do but as
I said, don't get the information I need. In addition when I am moving the
Marker points (shift or ctrl/shift plus left or right arrows, Jaws does not
read the time segments but only says select but when playing back the
selected portion. the relevant marker point has been moved. I would be very
grateful for some help here, keystroke by keystroke and off list if you

I am trying to record a four track library of congress book using a four
track player. When I record my selection with gold wave and try to play it
back, the sound is extremely low. I went into controls and set the volume at
100 percent and the balance at about 50 percent. Oh yes, I am using a patch
cord which is plugged into the line in port of my computer. Does anyone have
any idea how I can increase the volume in gold wave?

If you go to the download page on goldwave.com you should just keep going
down the page and you will eventually get to the list of places where you
can download the file from. I usually choose to download from the company's
FTP site. It isn't a very big file unless you are running a dial-up
connection it will download in a very short time.

Re: Gold Wave 5.18 Now Released

2006-12-23 Thread David Tanner
If you go to the download page on goldwave.com you should just keep going down
the page and you will eventually get to the list of places where you can
download the file from. I usually choose to download from the company's FTP
site. It isn't a very big file unless you are running a dial-up connection it
will download in a very short time.

I followed the link I just sent. Look for version 5.15 of the Goldwave

Hi Joe here. I'm using Jaws 7 and I can't seem to install the scripts for
gold wave 5.14 or the scripts for nero. I have nero version 6.6 I think. I
use windows xp home. Exactly how and where do you install scripts for these
versions. I had no problem with an older jaws and older nero. Does jaws 7
work with these programs Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

This is probably common knowledge, but I figured I'd put this up there.
If you're recording in Gold Wave from the line in, but you really don't
want to monitor the input, say if your friend gives you a tape he wants
converted but the music isn't to your taste and you have other things to
do, you can, in the Windows volume control, check the mute box in line
in playback. GW will still record, which is excellent.

Re: Gold Wave Version 5.14 Is Out

2006-06-09 Thread David Tanner
So, do you see much in this release that we can actually use with speech
access. I only see about three or four things that might work.

I'll probably do the upgrade, but not much of a gain.

: Gold Wave version 5.14 is now out. This looks to be a very minor upgrade.
: The changes include:
:
: Added logarithmic axis option for Spectrum visual.
: Removed auto-complete on comboboxes.
: Improved consistency of tool bar layout when Control window is
:opened and closed.
: Added horizontal scroll bar to File Merger list and made window
:resizeable.
: Added processing priority to progress window.
: Increased Insert Silence time range under Batch Processing.
: Added "Auto save" and "Power down system" recording options.
: Lowered threshold minimums for Auto Trim and Silence Reduction.
: Fixed bugs: preset installation, close help, exception on old
:computers caused by optimized Ogg Vorbis plug-in, auto cue
: names,
:reduce average, blank docked level visual, tabbing into frames.

Dave,

I don't do that much editing of audio, but I have used WavePad for simple
projects, and it is very accessible.

Here is an audio question for everybody.

Has anyone looked at the latest release of WavePad, and how accessible would
it be for a beginner just wanting to start getting their feet wet on a
simple audio editor?
