Re: PC and Recording
Tim, Make sure you have the What you Hear option checked in your volume control under recording properties. You can only have one item checked at a time under recording and if you have mic checked it will either pick up your soundcard alone or everything including your soundcard, which you obviously do not want. Please note that what is called What You hear applies to the soundblaster cards. if you have a different soundcard i think it is called Stereo Mixer or something like that, but it is the last of the recording options before it cycles back to the beginning so you'll know when you get there. i hope this solves the problem for you, since otherwise i'm out of ideas. I've also followed all of Susan's recommended settings below (as far as I can tell). The problem is the only thing TR is capturing/recording is Eloquence when I press Record and Stop. I can stream and run Eloquence together no problem. I just can't record them together with TR. Note, I'm not interested in Eloquence. I'm just pressing Record before the program I want begins and then leaving the computer alone. I know I can also schedule the recording and then leave the PC alone and/or unload JAWS. It seems like I'm missing something that should be obvious, but I humbly welcome any help - obvious or otherwise. I'm running TR 5.2 Standard, JAWS 6.2, on a new PC with XP pro. Re: PC and Recording
Hi. Either stereo or mono mix should let you capture streaming audio. Also, you may have more options than you know. In the volume control, hit alt-p, then select properties. Tab to the list of choices and choose recording. Tab again and there will probably be a list of sound sources which can appear in the recording dialog box. Not all of them will be checked. You might see if Wave is there and ensure that it is checked. Once you hit enter and therefore enter the recording volume control, any of the sounds which you have checked will become available for you to choose and to set the volume. To record using Goldwave, unless you want to capture the microphone as well as the sound coming from the net, you really only want wave output. Hope this makes sense. I had some problems on and off when using it with Windows 98 but with XP it works much better. Let me know what the problem is and your settings configuration and i'll try to help, or maybe one of the real techies can have a crack at it. Also, what soundcard and OS and which audio player? There might be other programs that would work better, but sounds like TR might be worth a try since you already have it installed. I've posted a similar question to the group before with minimal results. I am aware of recording programs for the PC. Well, I know they exist; although, I haven't had much success using one. I am also aware of the fact that one can record what are known as netstreams, where you can set the program to record from a radio station on the net or something like that. I'm wondering if anyone has recorded stuff from the web using these programs, and what they recommend. For example, next Monday, at 6:00 central, I would like to record a program off of a radio station from the midwest that is broadcasted on the internet. I currently have Total Recorder, but I've not been able to get it to work correctly. So, if people know about recording programs one can use to do these things, let me know. Thanks. I guess I need to know the best settings to have TR on. When I tried recording from a radio station, it didn't record. Also, I tried using the timer, and it didn't do anything.
