Re: reaper old version?

2012-03-12 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I've ben using Reaper for over a year and went from version 3.7 to the now
available 4.16x and have noticed no accessibility issues, works well with my
Screen Reader.

Having said that I don't use each and every tool or function Reaper has to
offer but I do know that these upgrades and updates are more bug fixes,
performance enhancements and feature additions so its unlikely! that any
deliberate attempt would be made to make future versions less accessible than
older one's.

If there is of course a known problem with accessibility then it should be
brought to the attentions of the developers who have been absolutely superb in
making Reaper accessible as compared to what it once was very early on.

 Hi list,

By chance, does anybody have version 3.7 or there abouts of reaper? It
certainly is not available from the web site as far as I can establish.

My understanding is that this works considerably better with the REA screen
reader plug in which rumour has it, is not being further developed to work
with version 4.x. Rather the developer appears to have disappeared if that
makes sense. Maybe another enthusiast will pick it up, got to be some
 dollars in it.

 Thanks for reading.

There aren't any JAWS scripts for it, but there *is* an access bridge
you will definitely need. Get the program at

the access bridge (Windows only) at
http://www.reaaccess.com/Downloads/ReaAccess.exe - Hope this helps.

Hi Steve,

I can't answer your question but I can tell you who made the Reaper
tutorial. It was from the Cisco Academy for the Vision Impaired who
offer online courses and are based in the state of Western Australia, in
Australia. You can find their contact details at the following link:

I hope this helps.

I see you're using Eudora. There must be a way of making it do a
download instead of an open, but I think since it probably calls IE or
whatever your default browser is, the fault and the fix probably lie
with the browser.

Could it also be that if you've installed ITunes, the default behaviour of
downloaded audio files is to play them, and if so, it's a setting you'll
need to change? Jonathan told about the fix for this in the FSCast demo of

Reaper is very cool, and in its infancy, relatively speaking, so now's
the time to get in there and get your voice heard as it develops,
evolves, grows, improves. The way things are going with Sonar and
their new interface, Reaper could and probably will be the next big
thing in accessible MIDI and audio production software.

In regards to your query about documentation, a lot of the Reaper manual
is useless for blind beginners as ReaAccess (the plug-in I mentioned
earlier) changes many of the hotkeys and when using a screen reader many
of the procedures to accomplish the basics are slightly different. That
audio file should hopefully get you up and running, however if it does
not, the ReaAccess website (http://www.reaaccess.com) features details
on how you can join a mailing list specifically to talk about the use of
Reaper with screen readers. I'm sure people will be happy to help you on
there.

It is extremely accessible when used with the ReaAccess plug-in - a
plug-in which interfaces directly with JAWS, Window-Eyes, NVDA and
SystemAccess - from http://www.ReaAccess.com. I now use it for all of
my recording and editing needs. Definitely worth the $40.

2011-04-19 Thread James Scholes

I just clicked the link here and it works fine, but if you go to

http://www.cucat.org/class_notes/Thursday%20chats/2011/

the Reaper tutorial/introduction is the last one on that page and is
called 20110408 Intro To Reaper.mp3.

I'm sure people will be happy to help you
on there.

hear, when downloading one of Mosen's Mushroom podcasts, I am afraid. This
one started playing at about 65% of the download -- imagine that! I will
peruse this puppy for awhile; sounds like a great alternative to Sonar!

Where can I get reper and ray access?

Hi, I'am a blind user, and I'am learninng how to use reaper. I produce radio
and video spots, and in these 5 years of work I've ever used Sound forge,
that
isn't a multitrack editor, so has some limitations for my work.
On this list I've discovered that Reaper can become very accessible by using
Rea Access, a tird parti plug-in that talks to my screen reader and allows
movements between
tracks, faders, triggers ecc. I've learned how to select, cut, paste, but I
can't understand volumes. Often, for my work I have 2 or 3 tracks, one for
the background music and the others for voices or effects. So I need to put
down the volume of the background music and re incrementing the same volume
when the voice track is finished. How I can do this with Reaper via keyboard
commands?

I've assigned a shortcut for inserting envelope points, but then I can't
understand what I have to do. I don't want to use automation if possible
because
I don't have a midi controller, and automating volumes via keyboard can't be
easy, especially if I want to create a gradual shape.

Anyone can suggest a solution?

Thanks!

Re: Reaper and volumes with Rea Access

2010-11-24 Thread Mario

Sorry, I resend the email.

Hi, and how do you move volumes with sonar? Do you use automation? Because I
don't want to use it, I don't have a controller and, however, 2 to me it's
not easy to slowdown a volume on a precise point, with the precise curve
that you want without having to redo.

What is your experience?

Thanks in advance.
A presto,

Just wonder if anyone knows whether you can use things like compression and
limiting live (in real time) or in-line between the audio inputs of a

Well, you can customize the keyboard shortcuts by pressing ? (shift+/). You
can then search for the action you want to perform, such as arm track for
recording then add a keystroke. After that you can press that keystroke to
arm the track for recording. You can then press CTRL+R to start recording.

Re: Reaper and Accessibility

2006-02-12 Thread Darrell Shandrow
Hi Jim,

This one appears to be a bit on the limited side from its description. I'd
be more interested in Audacity. I just installed it a few days ago but
haven't really dug into it, but I hear it too has some pretty significant
accessibility issues. The difference is that Audacity appears to be
*extremely* flexible and powerful, and, uh, hmm, it is open source so why
haven't we managed to make it more accessible?

 Hi Folks:

I hope you are keeping track of the development of the Reaper multi-track
 sound editor.

This is our chance to have our say while the program is still in the beta
development stage. It's gona be a beauty when it matures so let's get in
there and press for accessibility issues.

It probably won't make much difference if only one or two of us register
 the
issues concerning accessibility; however, if a lot of us do, it might.
 Even
if you don't think you will use the program right now, please consider
 joining us in this effort.

Re: Reaper problem.

2006-01-11 Thread Patrick Perdue
Hello Jim,

On Wednesday, January 11, 2006, 8:13:36 AM, you bellowed the following:
I am losing computer speech when I run Reaper on the same card is
JAWS. Anyone else having the same problem?

I haven't tried reaper yet, though I intend to. Is Reaper trying to open
your card as asio? This would explain it, as Asio always gets priority
over WDM streams.

RE: Reaper problem.

2006-01-11 Thread John Sanfilippo
Well, I do not know about the solution, but I too lose Jaws when Reaper
runs. Haven't gotten far with it at all. But I'd need more time with it
too.
