I'm still using 6 as well here, and i figure if it works for me, does
what I want it to, there's really no sense in upgrading.,

Well, a few of those controls won't speak, but most of the important ones
do. Nine times out of 10, I just press control+R followed by alt+R, and I'm
recording. I don't often have to change any parameters in that dialogue.

Well, that's quite a broad question. For me, it works quite well for basic
editing, applying of affects etc, using the keyboard functions. But if you

Re: Recording in Vista

2007-09-11 Thread Gary Petraccaro
That would explain it. For example, when I'm editing vinyl, I use the cursor
keys to move the slice of sound that I want to work with for working on
specific clicks and pops. There may be other ways, but that's how I've learned
to do it. That worked fine with 6 through 8. With 9, it doesn't do anything
at all.

Gary and Curtis, perhaps we're talking at cross purposes. In his last
message, Curtis said he was referring to using the arrows while playback was
active. I've never used this feature for editing, so don't know if it exists
or not. I was referring to using the arrow keys when Sound Forge is not
playing, which is working fine for me.

I'm getting no action from left and right arrows. Can you think of any
modifications to the default options in SF that you made which would affect
this? I get No action when using left and right arrows. That is, if I'm
listening to a file and move the cursor, Nothing happens. I have WE loaded.
I think I turned on cuing.

Hi Gary, I can't confirm this. While control with the arrow keys won't
  work
for me, the arrow keys work fine. In a way I view control with the arrow
keys not working an improvement, since the command was ambiguous. If you
had markers set, control with the arrow keys would move you between them,
whereas if you didn't, you'd move by slightly larger amounts than with
  just
left and right arrow on their own. left and right arrow on their own work
fine for me.

Re: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Curtis Delzer
Actually I am recording in XP home SP2, and for some reason Jonathan can get
the sound to skip forward and backward using the cursor (arrow) keys, but I
don't know how he does it, because no matter how I try, it will not here. I
know that in earlier SF versions that if you press the q for loop, then the
cursor will move the point of where you're listening while it's playing, but
not in sf9 here. why oh why and, oh why would they take that wonderful
feature away?

Re: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Mac Norins
Curtis,

I , too, am using XP Home SP2! I haven't even installed SF 9, because of
the problems, that you have been having! I am still using version 6, at
this time. I will write back, off list, to discuss this with you!

Actually I am recording in XP home SP2, and for some reason Jonathan can get
the sound to skip forward and backward using the cursor (arrow) keys, but I
don't know how he does it, because no matter how I try, it will not here. I
know that in earlier SF versions that if you press the q for loop, then the
cursor will move the point of where you're listening while it's playing, but
not in sf9 here. why oh why and, oh why would they take that wonderful
feature away?

well. Some sound card drivers are apparently better than others, but you

RE: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Jonathan Mosen

While control with the arrow keys won't

just
left and right arrow on their own. left and right arrow on their own work

Re: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Curtis Delzer
Hi Jonathan, I use control-arrows to move between marks as you say, never
otherwise since using the word context as control-arrows for words and just
arrow right and left for letters, in my case right and left arrow don't move
the cursor while it's playing, or if it does, then only after you stop
playing. It is a real pisser for me! Sorry guys this is under my skin like a
rock in the shoe feeling!

Re: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Ka Yat Li
Hi:

I am currently using SF9 and I have tried using it on JAWS 5.1. It makes the
widnows default sound and JAWS just shuts down when I'm either playing a
file or arrowing down past the different audio fileswhen I'm opening
something. Has anyone found a solution to this. Meanwhile, I'm using NVDA
with SF9 and it just works really well.

Thanks

RE: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Gary, I can't confirm this. While control with the arrow keys won't work
for me, the arrow keys work fine. In a way I view control with the arrow
keys not working an improvement, since the command was ambiguous. If you
had markers set, control with the arrow keys would move you between them,
whereas if you didn't, you'd move by slightly larger amounts than with just
left and right arrow on their own. left and right arrow on their own work
fine for me.

Several of use have been having keyboarding issues with SF9. When I have a
recorded file and I try to move within it for purposes of doing a manual
cleanup, the arrow keys don't work as before. Have you noticed this? If
sok, how did you get around it?
Thanks.

Hi Samuel, this is absolutely not the case. I use Sound Forge and Studio
Recorder to record all kinds of things in Windows Vista, and they work
  very
well. Some sound card drivers are apparently better than others, but you
  get
that with new operating systems until things sort themselves out.

Re: Recording in Vista

2007-09-10 Thread Mac Norins
Curtis,

BTW, have you contacted Sony about this? Later today, I could go through
the process necessary to rattle their cage, as it were, a little bit, if you
like! I know that Jim Snowbarger has had little success, with this, but, it
might be worth another try!
