Re: Winmx Problem

2007-10-17 Thread Morey Worthington
Hi Gary,
There is an action of some nature against the program. Getting connected is
downright impossible. There was a thread about this a month ago or so, but
no real answer on how to get connected.

Hi Gary,

Try either win MX 33.53 or 3.54 from www.winmxworld.com and see if that
works. I'm using 3.54 with no problems.

I can't get Winmx to install because it fails every time I get to the
connect phase.
My connection is DSL with a LinkSys router. No other firewall. I haven't
used it in years. What am I forgetting?
I'm using 331, is there a version issue?
Thanks.

Re: Winmx

2006-11-27 Thread nick danger
Houdy,

I'm not really sure about what's legal an/or not but my thought is that if
you're not selling it for a profit you can share it. It's kind of like the
cassette tapes thing from back in the days. Ever make a really good
cassette tape and pass it amongst your friends? That practice had been going
on for years before there was ever such a thing as nabster. and I've never,
not once, been caught by the copy Police, have you? I've never downloaded
music for profit. I enjoy listening to and collecting it. If I decide I
like it enough to go out and buy it then so be it. And if folks put their
music out there for you ta sample and groove with then I say, party on!

2005-03-15 Thread allykelly
Hi Doug,
It may very well be that there are indeed no files answering your search
criteria, however if you are also running quickmx, you might want to click
the file button situated just above where it is saying waiting on
search results with the left mouse button using the jaws curser if you are
a jaws user, this sometimes reveals the search results. Further help could
be found on the winmxfortheblind mailing list.

Sometimes you can stay in queue for hours until downloading actually starts.

 Hi all,
Has anyone used the latest version of WinMx, 3.53? I believe someone on
this list mentioned that it was not as accessable as previous versions.
I looked at their website and did not find that you can download previous
versions, so I was undecided whether to go ahead with the latest release
or
 not.

 Any advice?

2004-11-01 Thread Brian Lewis
I tried version 3.53 and didn't find it any less accessible. I went back to
3.31 because quickmx is 3.31 spacific and I wanted to be able to use that
program. My understanding is that the main improvements in the newer
version were in the chat function, which I haven't found to be accessible
regardless of what version is being used.

Re: WinMx

2004-10-30 Thread Susan Wojtecki
Paul and Kristen,
First of all, Winmx works pretty well even without scripts, though I do
appreciate the added functionality of the scripts. One tip if you decide to
try without the scripts is that you might consider the verbosity option of
turning on foreground colors so that you can tell the state of your uploads
and downloads. In other words, if a particular file is identified with
cyan, it means the file has been successfully/completely downloaded, green
means it is still in progress, red means it has stopped and is incomplete
etc. Hope this helps.

Paul, I'm using JAWS 4.02 and Windows 98. For the most part I can use the
PC cursor except to enter on a download link or a context item within the
transfers window. I'm not sure how much this varies from system to system
or with OS or screenreader and version, but I am quite used to it and have
not found it to be a problem beyond the initial adjustment of learning the
program. I guess it depends on how comfortable folks are with the JAWS
cursor in general--in this instance I would not say the program is
inaccessible for that reason.

Chris,
Both can be found at the jfwlite page. Go the programs link under
www.jfwlite.com and you'll see links to the Winmx scripts and to the Winmx
homepage. I would suggest you download version 3.31. The scripts were
written for 3.30 but they work for 3.31 also. Only thing I'm not sure of is
whether you will need to compile them depending on which version of JAWS you
are running. In the Helpful Hints section, there may be some info on this
or hopefully someone else knows for sure. Hope this helps.

RE: WinMx questions

2004-10-28 Thread James McKillop
Hi
I generally use window eyes version 4.5 when using winmx, and to be
honest have only just used jaws version 5.0?? now to see how useable it
is.
Now I don't have any scripts for jaws loaded to use in winmx , but it
seems to be completely useable straight outta the box.
I use the jaws pad to get around , to navigate the mouse to the various
buttons etc,The only thing I had to do was set a custom highlight.
This I had to do so the list tree in the transfers window would read as
I used the cursor arrow keys to scroll up and down the list.
hth.

  Gary,

A few listers have already mentioned CDEX but, in my opinion, this is
the
only software you'll need to achieve all of your requirements:

  *  it's free
  * it's easy to use and fully accessible
  * it will retrieve artist, CD title, track titles, track number, year

  genre
  * you can rip to MP3, WAV a number of other formats
  * you can rip a whole CD into a single track or select a number of
  tracks
to be ripped into a single track
  * you can convert a folder or number of WAV files to MP3 and vice
versa
  * you can record directly from your line in using CDEX

Why pay for software that will do less than this?

Hi, Marsha here. I am using JFW 5.0 and Winmx 3.31 with Windows XP Home.
The only scripts I have found are those for 3.30. When I downloaded and
installed them, it seems as though I got this error message that said
unknown script or something like that when I tried to compile them and get
them to work. I finally removed them from my system as it wasn't letting me
really get to Winmx' features. Are there scripts for 3.31 as of now?

I went back to WinMx 3.31 so that I could use the QuickMx program.
 Well...
Winmx crashes after a few hours when I use Quickmx. There is an
illegal
operation that is logged in my faultlog. I wasn't getting better
results
 using quickmx either.  I'm dissapointed.

2004-09-20 Thread Marsha Macchi
Hi, Marsha here. I don't post very much but I would like to know if there
are scripts for the more efficient operation of Winmx? If there are, where
can I get them? When I get them, can someone give me step by step on how to
download, install and put them in the right folder for JFW to make use of
them. I am new at this file sharing thing and would like to know more about
it. I have Windows XP home, JFW 5.0 and Winmx 3.39 or thereabouts. Can't
remember the version number offhand.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Thanks for the info concerning the Take Command, its great to find someone
who is still Dos oriented.
Here's a further question for you if I may:
Since I'm quite forgetful, many times I forget the name I gave a file
yesterday or recently used the DIR command with the /OD switch (order by
date) which generated a list of files, showing the most recent files at the
end or bottom of the list.
This tecnique does not work the same under Windows XP.
Can you solve this dilemma for me please?
Many thanks,
Harry Bassler

Are you looking at this list in the Windows Explorer in the List-view? I'm
assuming you are and (this being the case (and I'm assuming you're using
JFW)), then hold down the CTRL key and press the + key on the numberpad.

I'm glad you mentioned this actually as I was going to talk about lists of
MP3 files, suppose you have millions of MP3 files and you want to make a
list of them in a text file. Well you may find that the Take Command
programme (a DOS command interpreter) can be used to great affect for this
task, saves you writing everything down by hand and (to my knowledge) the
standard Windows command prompt won't let you create a listing, sure! you
can write the output of a DIR command to a file but you have to edit it
 afterwoods and that's a pain.

So now I've mentioned this I'd best get on with more explanation. Take
Command is the new name for the programme that many of us will remember as
4DOS by JP Software, yep! this crowd are still around and Take Command
 works with Windows XP etc.

Now for the commands you use to generate a list, its quite simple and this
example assumes that you have all your MP3 files in sub-folders off say a
main folder (in my case C:\AUDIO\MUSIC\. You run Take command and then
navigate to that folder with the standard CD command etc and then type
in
 the following command line,
DIR/B/S *.MP3 FILENAME dON'T FORGET TO USE DOUBLE QUOTES AROUND THE
FILENAME IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO USE A NAME LONGER THAN 8 CHARACTERS OR YOU
PLAN TO USE PUNCTUATION IN THE FILENAME.

The /b in the command line tells Take command that you want a bare listing
(that is just a list of the files and nothing else). The /s command tells
take command that you want it to search all Sub-folders and list the
 contents within.

oF COURSE! TO SIMPLIFY THINGS EVEN MORE, YOU CAN WRITE tAKE cOMMAND BATCH
FILES TO SPEED THINGS UP AND GET YOUR COMPUTER TO ACT IN A CLEVER WAY, i
 WRITE THEM HERE.

tHOUGHT THIS MAY HELP SOME PEOPLE AND YEP! ITS A round-aboug WAY OF
GETTING A LIST OF ALL THE FILES YOU HAVE BUT (TO MY KNOWLEDGE) wINDOWS
ITSELF WON'T LET YOU GET A LISTING INTO A TEXT FILE THOUGH i COULD BE
WRONG.

Naturally! this command can be used to great affect if you have a whole
stack of books and you wish to created nested playlists for them for use
with Winamp, Windows Media Player etc.

Re: WinMx questions

2004-08-01 Thread Jessica
There's a program you can get called quickmx that's supposed to help with
your last question. As for the file names, I'm not sure what to do to
change that.
If you want the program though, you could go to google.com, and type the
word quickmx in the search field, and that should be the first thing you
find.
However, if you're using the latest version, there isn't a version
available for that yet, so you'd need to temporarily downgrade to 3.31.

 Hi all

I have a few queries about WinMX.

Is it possible to let WinMX display full file names and not end them with
... When they are too long?

The other thing is that every time you import incomplete files, it seems
as
if you have to set the autpo find resource and queuing options for each
song
you have imported from the incompleted list. Is there a way to do this
 automatically?
