Re: converting itunes m4v files to mp3

2013-04-01 Thread Chris H

Hello all
I have an update.
Sound Taxi worked a treat. However the problem is I cannot seem to save
it as just audio. I tried aac and it wouldnt play in my media player of
choice, Winamp. I then tried Mp3 and it couldn't convert because,
apparently, there was no data to convert. I'm like what gives, as it
converted to Mp4 just fine. Bear in mind I'm using the trial so only got
the first 3 minutes of the video. But at least it worked. Not sure if
I'm going to purchase it though because of problems saving just the
audio portion.

Thanks for all your help.
Chris.

Surely m4v files are video format? Why would you try to convert a
video format to audio format
?
If you want the audio, play the file using the ITunes player, and
record the audio in real time.

I'm just guessing, so feel free to ignore me, but can you play the AAC
files in other media players? Have you played other AAC file in Winamp?
I'm just wondering if you need a plugin or something to play .ogg files
in Winamp.

Yes I am able to play other Aac files in Winamp so long as it has an M4A

Hello,
Hi,
Your last point would depend entirely upon the quality of the playback
devices, and recording devices. If the playback system can reproduce
the actual quality in the original, then the recording could be as good
as extracting the data to .mp3 format.

Just a late night thought.

I'm just guessing at who you're directing this to and what you're
talking about, since you didn't include the message you're replying to,
but I suspect you're right, although it seems like there are more
variables involved with the play back and recording devices then there
is with just one piece of software that will be working directly with
the bits.

I convert video files to audio files all the time. The resulting

devices. Converting files also takes a fraction of the time and
results in better quality than playing the video file and recording
it in real time.

I haven't used MrV files before, but if I were to work with them on
Windows, I'd check out Switch before anything else.

Re: converting itunes m4v files to mp3

2013-03-29 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I convert video files to audio files all the time. The resulting audio
files take up a fraction of the space of the original video files. Plus,
although it's probably not an issue in this case, the audio files are
much more portable and can be played on many more devices. Converting
files also takes a fraction of the time and results in better quality
than playing the video file and recording it in real time.

I haven't used MrV files before, but if I were to work with them on
Windows, I'd check out Switch before anything else.

I got M4A files to open in Goldwave without any trouble. they are converted

Surely m4v files are video format? Why would you try to convert a
video format to audio format

?
If you want the audio, play the file using the ITunes player, and
record the audio in real time.

Thanks, will try this. I know Switch can do M4A to MP3 and back but
didn't know it could do M4V.

I got M4A files to open in Goldwave without any trouble. they are converted
to wav and then you convert to MP3. it is clunky but it works. In ITunes
you convert using the same method converting wave or Mp3 files through the
import settings.

So how do I do this in iTunes? And also GoldWave can't do anything with
M4V files, or at least it's not listed in the files it supports. I
checked out Media Foundation but only M4A, Mp4 and 3Gp can be dealth
with. In iTunes all conversion options are unavailable.

In addition to Switch as another poser indicated, Format Factory
should also.

Rather than Switch, look at Prism from NCH. It's more for videos.

Also, Free Make from freemake.com I think will do the trick.- Original
