archos studio recording problem
Hello list I don't know whether this question is allowed on the list but if not, Please forgive me. I try to record via the line-in of my Archos Studio 20GB player. As long as sound is coming in, it records but if there is just a moment of silence then the recording stops and the file is closed. I looked everywhere in the settings but I can not find a setting that has to do with silences. If this is not off topic, can someone please suggest a solution? I may add that I installed the latest rockbox version for the Archos but even if I reinstall the original the result is the same. Regards Fanus
Recording problem
Hi all, I'm kinda desperate at this point and hope someone on this list might be able to help me out. I'd like to record all the audio and voice/mic on my computer but having problem doing so. I am using an audigy 2 soundcard with a plantronics 355 headset. I attach my headset and set windows sndvol32 to record what you hear, and the sound comes out at half the volume as when recording my voice with mic. To be exact, I'm recording my voice alone using Sound Forge 8 and the mic level is pretty good. I then switch over to this what you hear setting and the recording's volume drops about 50%. Anyone have any suggestions as to why this is happening? Very weird. Thanks, Matthew To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

recording problem with goldwave
Hello, I recently installed GoldWave version 5.19 on a computer for the first time and when I went to record, the only thing I got was what JFW was saying. I tried changing input sources with no luck and am completely baffled! I am running XP home with jfw 8 and wonder if the problem is with my SBLive. I never had this problem with my other computer which is set up the same as far as I can tell. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Hi Betsy, also, some sound cards have check boxes that allow you to mix your inputs, just as you can in the playback properties. If this is the case, you must check everything that you don't want recorded, such as the wave out and the stereo mix, which some sound cards call what you hear! recording problem
Hi guys, Lately when I record using Fast Edit, I've got a problem recording. When it reaches about 30 or so minutes on the hard-drive the recording starts skipping. I shut off everything I can including dsl, norton, and window-eyes. Window-eyes is used to get this editor recording for me. As soon as it's recording, I turn off window-eyes. I have a 39 gig hard-drive and I'm at 5 gigs. Even when I was at 7 gigs today, it still had the skipping problem. I'm trying to record an hour of material. It's not really fun splicing files together. I can do it but then it turns in to a 2 hour project. Is this a windows xp issue? Any help would be appreciated. Re: may have solved the Radio Caroline Recording problem
How might I use this, macro scheduler, or another program to deal with programs that require the jaws cursor? Right now, for converting my TV shows to audio, I use virtual dub, but I have to wait a minute after the open command is hit, then another minute and a half to manually name and save each show to wav in the folder those go in, separate from the mpg's so that I don't delete the wrong one when I go back in the open box to repeat the cycle. I'd like to use a batch converting program like Mediansoft Batch Converter, and have it convert the folder at a certain time to wav or mp3 files. It has a browse button for the input location, and another for the output, both of which you have to use the jaws cursor to get to. I don't believe it remembers the location that one could just run and hit convert, and the convert button, I believe, has to be clicked to. The thing this program does have going for it is it is able to delete the source files after they convert, difficult to test accurately as it only converts half the show in a trial version, and I hate to register something that I can't schedule. How would I write the macro to make this happen, without any sighted help to actually physically click the buttons? Awhile ago, I heard of a program called winbatch that people can use to automate software installation, and they must run in to the same thing, how to code the click first browse button and click second browse button options, as they do have to click next and enter in paths in to boxes and the like, and then my macro would be in a .exe file that I could use task scheduler to run, or a hotkey. - Original Message - From: Dean Martineau [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: PC audio discussion list. I think I've figured out how to do it. The solution takes tinkering, and it is certainly not the only one, but it is free and I've made it work. First, it occurs to me that one could launch the Radio Caroline stream before going to bed and use TotalRecorder Pro's scheduler to start and stop the recording process at a given time. What I'm about to describe works if you don't want to do that or if you only have TotalRecorder Standard. The tool we'll use is a little free utility called Send. It's a command-line program that lets you send keystrokes to running applications. You can specify a time of day to send the keystrokes. The program doesn't have a home page. You get it from http://www.winsite.com/bin/Info?100034563 I'll be doing a Sound Computing article on the various aspects of this process, so won't elaborate on them here. The bottom line is that you can position the pc cursor, *not* the virtual cursor, of Internet Explorer at a point of your choice, perhaps on the link for the OggCast stream, though you can put the pc cursor elsewhere if there's a reason to do so. With the pc cursor positioned on the desired link , you can execute a batch file with one line. Assuming you deposited the send.exe program in the root folder of the hard drive, and that you wanted to start recording at midnight, a batch file with a name like launch.bat would look like this c:\send internet \{s500}\n 00:00 The \{s500} sends a half-second pause, which seems to give processes a little time to work. I have not been able to send a command from within a batch file to start recording with TotalRecorder. I have been able to send the command to do this from outside a batch file. Also note that Microsoft AntiSpyware wasn't enthusiastic about a batch file taking over the system and needed reassurance that I liked the idea. So to use this, you would launch TotalRecorder and hit Ctrl-R to start recording. With JFW if you're in software recording mode, nothing will be captured until the audio stream starts playing. You would run the batch file and go to bed. Upon arising, you would stop Total Recorder and save. More can be done with this. It should be possible to use Send to close Internet Explorer at a set time, though this would be much easier to do with TotalRecorder. This is what I know so far. Sounds good Dean. Thanks. The reason the Run command won't work in TR I think is that the file which you put in the Desktop does not have an extension. It is simply title Caroline However it can be run from the Windows Explorer. P. Re: recording problem in sound forge
Kevin, Thanks, that did it! All I needed to do was uncheck the stereo mix checkbox and everything is back to normal. for others with integrated sound cards wanting to know the exact issue and steps I took: when Replay Radio was installed, it essentially checked the checkbox for either the stereo mix or the mono mix in the recording properties dialogue. This has the effect of recording the entire speaker output when making recordings using the line in input with other programs, such as the Sound forge editing program. to fix this, I went to the recording properties dialogue programs/accessories/entertainment/volume and when I was in the volume control dialogue, I went to the menu and selected properties. In this property sheet, I cursored down to recording properties. the default is playback. I then tabbed to a list and selected all items to display and then pressed the ok button. In the next property sheet, I found that the stereo mix checkbox was checked. I had selected stereo mix during installation of Replay radio. I suppose if someone chose mono mix, that checkbox would have been checked instead. I made sure that my line in checkbox was checked and unchecked all other boxes. presto, it worked!!! the downside is likely that one may need to tinker with the property sheet when switching between Replay radio and other programs that record sound, like sound forge. however, the two programs can easily co-exist on the same computer. lesson of the story: when in the middle of a project, even one that might last for weeks or months, don't install programs that preform a similar function on your computer. these programs may change settings that the user is unaware of and will then need to painstaikenly track down and finely adjust to return to the previous settings that were working well. I believe you can choose under settings in re-play radio whether you want the program to set the volume controls or not. If you uncheck this, the volumes should remain where you had them set. Also, you may have to check your settings to be sure the soundcard drivers and not replay-radio drivers are being used when you open sound forge. This can be checked under the volume control, options, properties tab. The optional esc driver replay radio offers may also be a part of the problem if you installed it. It sometimes conflicts with other sound drivers. recording problem in sound forge
yesterday I downloaded the stream capture and recording program replay radio. it was surprisingly accessible and easy to use and install. My horror of horrors arrived today when I tried to continue my cassette digitization project using Sound forge and my line in jack. My finely tuned volume level is way out of wack. worse yet, it seems that replay radio has mess up with the sound card. Now sound forge records everything played through my computer speakers, including JAWS and the speech synthesizer and windows Sounds. it did not do this before. Is this typical with programs like replay Radio and total recorder and others? Can the two types of programs co-exist on one system along with a soft synth? how can I get things back to the way they were? I have a RealTek AC97 Audio imbedded sound card using windows XP home with JAWS 6.0 and sound Forge 5.0. A strange recording problem.
Hello, I am attempting to assist a friend over the phone. He has a bizarre problem which I have not been able to solve and would appreciate some ideas from other listers. He wants to record an audio stream. So we went into the recording tab of the volume control, unchecked the microphone, checked stereo mix, and adjusted the stereo mix volume setting. I am certain that we are in the recording tab and that the boxes are correctly checked. Nevertheless, the recording is that of the microphone even though the mike is unchecked. I encouraged him to unplug the mike; however, he said it wasn't practical to get to the back of the computer, and he was uncertain as to which plug was that of the mike, and it wasn't feasible to trace the mike chord. So if anyone here has an idea, please let us know. Thanks in advance.
