Re: Logitech Compact USB Speakers
Okay I apologise to Barry as I myself gave out the wrong information and Barry is actually right with regard to these speakers, I’ve had mine so long now I can’t for the life of me remember what the model number is. So again Apologies and I’ll dig up the right number and double-check my facts next time . > On 26 Jan 2016, at 12:19 PM, Barry Chapman wrote: > > It should be noted that whilst the Logitech Z120 is powered from the USB > port, the sound is via a lead from the computer's output jack. Re: Logitech Compact USB Speakers
No sorry that is not correct at all, the Z120 is self powered and self contained and does not require a connection from the headphone jack, I’ll repeat again I have 6 of these pairs of speakers given that they’re so useful. > On 26 Jan 2016, at 12:19 PM, Barry Chapman wrote: > > It should be noted that whilst the Logitech Z120 is powered from the USB > port, the sound is via a lead from the computer's output jack. RE: Logitech Compact USB Speakers
It should be noted that whilst the Logitech Z120 is powered from the USB port, the sound is via a lead from the computer's output jack. For those who would prefer to have their music coming from the external speakers while having their screen reader coming from the internal speaker or headphones at the same time, you might want to look at the Logitech S150. Re: USB speakers versus internal laptops?
Logitech make something else in that line which is supposed to sound very reasonable though the Z300 I think it is isn’t computer speakers as such rather its a speaker block so separation may not be all that good but its a very expensive proposition, well over $200 Australian when I last looked. Still it is small, easy to put into a laptop carry bag and so on. > On 26 Jan 2016, at 1:00 AM, hamitcampos wrote: > > Ah okay. Hi! I’ve had quite a bit of private email wanting to know more about the Logitech USB speakers I mentioned on list. The model is Logitech Z120 Compact USB speakers and they cost around $25-30 Australian. ** Those of a positive and enquiring frame of mind will leave the rest of the halfwits in this world behind.
Re: USB speakers versus internal laptops?
Yes, they’re different given the fact that they’re not taking power from the computer itself rather from a separate power supply as you say. This of course has its advantages, the main and obvious one being that the speakers can afford to have more power behind them. > On 26 Jan 2016, at 12:22 AM, Hamit Campos wrote: > > My answer is no. Re: USB speakers versus internal laptops?
Hi! Its assumed of course that with a Laptop you probably won’t want something too powerful. Logitech has - or perhaps more accurately had - a set of USB powered speakers which I thought provided extremely good value for money when it came to the performance and sound and the price of $25. These were not your Hi-FI speakers but they certainly could be easily heard at a desktop or table and in a small work room. They used D class amplification so very little power was used. If you have a Laptop or even perhaps an Android device with a USB port then these speakers may very well be worth a consideration, they certainly sound better than all the laptop speakers I’ve ever heard and are damn right excellent if you do a lot of work with your Screen Reader and you need reasonable audio for those wonderful speech synthesisers you’ve bought from the likes of Akapella etc. Excellent for those Internet Radio Broadcasts too. I bought half a dozen pairs at the time. And yes to the controls which are about as simple as you can get, 3 buttons on the right speaker are volume down, bute in the middle and volume up on the right. > On 25 Jan 2016, at 4:18 PM, Austin Pinto > wrote: > > no. > but it depends on which speaker you use and what are the features. > like if you use a 2.1 channel speaker the requirements will be a bit > hire then if you use a 2 channel speaker > > On 1/25/16, Adam Morris wrote: >> Hi all, >> >> for those who use or have used USB powered speakers do they drain your >> laptop's battery much more than the internal speakers? >> >> > > > -- > search for me on facebook, google+, orkut.. > austinpinto.xavi...@gmail.com > follow me on twitter. > austinmpinto > contact me on skype. > austin.pinto3 > ** Those of a positive and enquiring frame of mind will leave the rest of the halfwits in this world behind.

Re: Advice wanted on USB speakers
Thanks Bob. I was eventually able to track down some Rock 302G speakers from Austin Computers in Perth, Western Australia, but I got the last ones they had. There are a number of sites which still have them listed, but none of the others I contacted had them in stock, and the manufacturer say they are discontinued, so I don't think they will ever be getting any in. Before I was able to get the Rock speakers, I bought the Logitech LS150 which don't sound too bad, but probably not quite as good as the Rock 302G. Still the Logitech ones are streets ahead of some others I have heard. I know some have suggested that ones connected to the mains have more output power and this is true, but I wanted something which I could use outside without having to worry about external power or speaker batteries. I tried the site you suggested, but couldn't get anything useful from it using JAWS. Most of the USB speakers are aimed at the cheap end of the market (around $20 or so) and all that I have heard so far other than the Rock 302G are a heap of junk. USB ports from a computer only give a very small amount of power and in some cases hardly any at all, that's why USB hubs come with power supplies to make more power available. Hard drives for example only take a fraction of power that USB speakers may require and even then! USB ports may not have enough power to run them properly. Re: Advice wanted on USB speakers
Dane, The point you are missing here is that I have heard a pair of speakers which meet my requirements in full. They have an adequate amount of output volume and a sufficient amount of base. Unfortunately, they don't appear to be available still. They are a little more expensive than others I have seen (around $35) but that is not an issue for me. I have heard 3 other sets of USB speakers and the Rock 302g are streets ahead of the rest. If anyone can tell me where I can still buy them, I would be most grateful. Unfortunately I can't demonstrate them so you can judge for yourself. Re: Advice wanted on USB speakers
I disagree as you've just proved my points in my opinion. You talk of the cheap USB speakers at $20.00 being a load of junk? Well their's no disputing that but have you heard a cheap $20.00 pair of speakers these days that connect to a sound card or Ipod and which are powered by mains power? I think you'll be quite impressed, no doubt about it we own the computer industry a lot when it comes to the way speakers have progressed in the last 10 or so years. I bought a $20.00 pair of Logitech 2.1 speakers not long ago, the sound out of those is just fantastic. Now getting back to the topic of USB speakers? I have a set of USB speakers here which I use for my Mac, wonderful things but they are powered by mains power though the computer recognises them as a sound card or device, 100 watts per channel and you certainly won't! get that amount of power through a USB port alone if its going to provide power to your speakers. Re: USB Speakers?
High once again Dock, I built for my computer, a pare of speakers that uses a pare of S5 Electronic tube amps. Even though they have their own power supply, I rigged up a power outlet with a power switch so that I can turn them off and on at the same time. But this way, each speaker has its own volume control. These sound a whole lot better then a lot of computer speakers I've heard. But these USB speakers, I just saw them but never heard them. They were hooked up to a E Machine computer that was running Vista. I wanted the lady to play some music on this system for me. But when she was about too, she got called away. Your guess is as good as mine about these USB speakers, and what they sound like. Re: USB Speakers?
I use my USB speakers with my Macbook Pro which is a notebook and theyr'e perfectly suited to that as I don't need a lot of power for the Notebook, the situation is bets explained if I said that the internal speakers of the Macbook, (whilst they're fine for speech) don't really cut it when it comes to music. Yes sometimes the quality out weighs the low power. And the higher powered ones can have a power pack to supply power instead of the USB port. Re: USB Speakers?
High Dock, This will sound a little unusual, but if you can remember how you use to turn an old fashion radio on and off, up and down. These speakers has that kind of power switch/volume control knob. So I'm wondering, how does the USB interface work with something like that? Re: USB Speakers?
Yes exactly, I have a pair here which i use with Itunes on the Mac, you plug em in and Itunes can take total control of them, they're actually classed as a Sound Device on my Mac at any rate and I'd assume the same thing for windows so you can select that sound device as a default audio output for Windows for example. Re: USB Speakers?
If they plug in to the 1/8 jack then they aren't true USB speakers. True USB speakers get the audio through the USB connection as well as the power and don't plug into the 1/8 jack.
