Re: ZenStone Question
Well, the only other two things I would are first, try using another USB cable and if that doesn't try updating the firmware. If neither one of those things work then you might want to find out whether you could reformat it. If nothing works it's two cheap to think of repairing, you might want to replace it with something else. On Feb 17, 2010, at 9:54 AM, Vicki wrote: > I always use the safely remove hardware feature. I haven't seen these issues either, but I'd suggest trying the same things, i.e. a hard reset of the player and if that doesn't resolve the problem then reformat the player and then a FW update if the problem still persists. ZenStone Question
I've been having an unusual problem with my Zenstone the last couple of months, and I'm hoping someone has a solution for me. Sometimes when I delete files from the ZenStone, they show up as deleted, however, when I unplug it from the computer and listen, they are still there. They show up nowhere, so it's impossible to get them off without reformatting the Zenstone. That means reinstalling everything I want on there again just to remove things that are taking up space and not showing up. Does anyone know what causes this and what I can do to either prevent it from happening or get rid of those invisible files without reformatting the entire Zenstone? Thanks. Re: zenstone question
I've never used Creative Media Lite without the scripts, so I don't know how usable it is without them, but it doesn't seem like a very complicated application. BTW, according to the web page, here are the features of the scripts: • Most of the buttons speak their names as you use Tab, Shift+Tab or Insert+Tab. There is still a bit of work to be done in the Settings Dialog of the CD ripper as the fields do not speak correctly but this will come in time. • When you Tab into the main drive list or the Zen player contents list, the individual list is identified. • F12 activates the Audio CD rip Button. • Usefully, you can now check or uncheck the songs to be extracted from a CD from the list by pressing Space Bar. JAWS will announce if the song is checked or unchecked. • ALT+Control+V will allow you to set the maximum volume of the player and access the parental controls. • ALT+Control+U enables updates to be accessed via the Internet. • F11 tells you the charge of the player and the amount of free space. • A small amount of Hotkey Help is available. Michael. Are you able to reliably navigate the menus on the Zen Stone Plus? Can you get to the voice recorder and FM tuner? Yes, if, while listening to a file, you just press the wheel once, it'll skip to the next file. If you hold the edge of the wheel down, and keep holding it down, you'll hear the player fast forward through the current file. I don't think the repeat key will change this behavior. I think it just determines which file you'll jump to. albert griffith wrote: > I'm going to try to update the firmware but are you saying that pressing the > wheel for a short time skips to another file while holding it longer moves > through the present one? I'm going to try to update the firmware but are you saying that pressing the wheel for a short time skips to another file while holding it longer moves through the present one? Re: zenstone question
Yep, and let's take this a step further, I actually did give the creative media lite software a look, i wanted to know what it was all about. I was able to use it just fine, I was surprised to hear someone had created scripts for it. That's one of those situations where I think scripts are kind of unnecessary, but at the same time, i'm glad they're out there for folks who want them. I like being able to hook up the zen stone, copy files to it, unplug it and take it with me. no muss, no fuss, just straight file transfering. That's how it should be, least to me. Re: zenstone question
I too just use Windows Explorer to copy files to my Zen Stone, but to answer your question as to why the Creative Lite Media software exists, here are a few features it has besides just allowing you to copy files to your player: - determine the amount of charge on the Zen Stone's battery, - rip files directly from a CD to your Zen Stone, - determine the level of firmware on your Zen Stone, - find and install updates to the firmware on your Zen Stone, - format your Zen Stone and - set a maximum volume on your Zen Stone. I don't use these features often, and for the most part, they aren't necessary to use the player, but it has these features, so I'll keep pointing people to the URL where they can download this software and the corresponding JFW scripts. Hi and just to clarify once more. The Creative Media Lite software is not needed to transfer files to the Zen Stone. Sure, you can use it, but the regular copy and paste way, for me at least, works a whole lot faster and easier. In fact that's why I got the Zen Stone, because it doesn't require any kind of special software to transfer files. RE: zenstone question
Hi I think we might be getting our terms confused here. The 1 GB model *does* have a fast forward/rewind feature. You know that same little area on the right side of the circle that you press to move to the next track? Well, simply press and hold down on that button and the zen stone will fast forward through the current track. If its not doing it, keep trying. Same goes for the left side. Holding down on the button to move back through the songs that you've played already will rewind through the currently playing track. Being connected to the computer does not even figure into this at all, the only time the zen stone, at least for me, is plugged in to the USB port is to charge it up. I apologize if I'm missing something, but the Zen Stone does have a fast forwarder feature. If you hold the right edge of the navigation circle down, and keep it pressed down, it'll fast forward through the current file. It is true that it won't retain your place in a file if you jump to another file. Re: zenstone question
I have multiple files on my Zen Stone and I can fast forward and rewind through a particular file with no problems. If you accidentally hit the center button while pressing down on the right or left side of the navigation wheel then you might jump to the next or previous file. Also, if you don't push on the edge of the navigation wheel and keep pressing down firmly, you might jump to the next song. Once in a great while, I'll be fast forwarding through a file and my finger will slip resulting in me losing my place. It may also be the case that you need the latest firmware, although I never experienced the problem you describe, even with the older firmware. albert griffith wrote: > Rick, when I do that it moves to the next file. Rick, when I do that it moves to the next file. Possibly if I only put one file on it that might work. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rick Harmon Sent: Monday, March 03, 2008 8:44 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: zenstone question incorrect it does have forwarding and reversing. hold down on the right or left buttons and you will seek forward and backwards through the current playing file. I have the latest firmware and this has nothing to do with its ability to forward within files since it's not connected to the computer when this function is called for. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Tim Grady Sent: Monday, March 03, 2008 5:16 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: zenstone question Deppends on what you are doing with it and whether or not you have the latest firmware. RE: zenstone question
Joe, No, I'm only using the 1 GB version. At least here in the UK, the 2 GB version seems to be just about twice the price of the 1 GB version, so there doesn't seem much benefit in buying the 2 GB version. I think two of the 1 GB players might be a better bet, so at least if you lose one of them, you still have the other to listen to. Albert When we were at Target and Best Buy yesterday, my wife's reaction to the Zen Stone 2gb was just that. We, incidentally, ended up with the 2gb Sansa e250c -- a bit more expensive at $99 but my sighted wife thought, that of all the units we saw in person, this one had the most readable screen. Re: zenstone question
Yes. The plus has menus. There is a manual that does explain how it works but it doesn't give exact steps or describe the menus in detail. The 1 gig Stone does not have menus. No external mic input on the Zenstone plus that I could see when I checked it out.
