I just updated to the latest version to make sure this works.

Tab to the Search Menu button and press space. Arrow down to the Genres
choice and press Enter. this lands you in a vertical list of letters and
numbers which are the first letters of genre names. Arrow up or press o for
oldies, then press enter on it to activate it. shift+tab to the resulting
list. I get 572 or so stations from all over the globe.

Yep, I've seen that problem too but can't remember how I fixed it and if
the MS Framework thing was responsible, I do know that I found others
were having similar issues thanks to Google.

Has anyone been using Sound Forge Audio Studio 12 and how have they
found that.

Check to see that Microsoft Framework is properly installed, you'll find
what you want there in add/remove components/features.

Once this is done uninstall/remove Sound Forge and try the installation
again.

The error you're encountering should be fixed.

Yes, you can change the playback speed as said above. Also, while
recording, you can press the F3 function button, and it will place a
bookmark for use silently. When power off and on again, the playback speed
stays the same.

Re: Question about LS-14 digital recorder

2017-11-12 Thread Joe Paton
Hello John,

When you start replaying a file, the default state of the ring, is 12
o'clock is volume up, 6 o;'clock is volume down. 9 and 3, are back and
forward through the files on the recorder.

While playing a file, press the enter key, the key in the middle of the
ring, once, then the up and down positions on the dial act as increase
speed 12 o'clock, decrease speed 6 o'clock. Pressint the enter after
this, takes you back to the default action which is volume up and down.
If you do nothing, having made a playback speed change, the control
defaults back to volume. What I don't know, is how to get playback back
to normal, apart from using my ears. I suspect that if the recorder is
turned off, then it reverts back to standard playback speed.

I think there about 23 or 24 steps from slowest to fastest speed.

Hope this helps.

One can often find Book Port Plus or Plextalk Pocket units used in good
condition. this may make their price more equal to the one you're
contemplating; I don't know how much that one costs. The advantage of these
blindness-specific devices is that you can easily set bookmarks while
recording, so if an item you know you're going to want to put in the minutes
occurs you can silently hit the bookmark key during recording and easily get
back to it later. You can also of course change the playback speed.

Hi John.

Like another member suggested yesterday, most of these recorders record a file
for you and that's all.

What you do with that file is up to you.

You may wish to make it quieter, slower, faster , louder or add some thing like
a small echo or you may simply wish to maximise all the tracks to be the same
volume, etc.

You achieve these things by using something like Goldwave.

I do this kind of stuff all the time and as recently as Friday night of last
week I recorded a 45 singer choir onto such a recorder and came home with my
digital recording.

But then the technical work really started

I had to load it into Goldwave and make some of the improvements that I listed
above.

I ended up with a high quality recording that you simply cannot get on a stand
alone hand-held digital recorder.
Once on the computer I was also able to burn my work onto a CD for the group,
which is to be used in a television advertisement.

I could not do this without some experience of digital editing on a computer.

So if this is what you want to do, then that is the way to do it.

Hope this helps.

Andy.

you can find the Jaws guide here:

In Audacity 2.1.3 the keystroke to stop playback and move the cursor to the

Hello David,

The way I accomplish this task is by pressing shift-a while the file is
playing. This stops the file and places the cursor at that place. Then press
shift-end and that will select to the end of the file. In the new version of
Audacity, a different command than shift-a is used and you'd have to ask
somebody who uses that version or consult David Bales's guide on Audacity with
JAWS. This guide does work when using other screenreaders. Hope this helps.

Audacity Simple Question/Selecting from Cursor Position to End of Track and Deleting the Selection

2017-09-24 Thread David Goldfield
Hello.

I am just beginning to learn how to use Audacity to copy some old tape
recordings into mp3 format using an NLS C-1 tape player. I have successfully
installed the Lame encoder for saving to mp3 format. I'm trying to do something
which should be very simple.

At times, I have a few extra seconds of audio at the end of a track that I want
to delete. What I want to do is to select from the cursor position or from
where I stopped playback up to the end of the track and delete that selection.
I see several options in the Edit menu under Select which seems to be what I
want but they never seem to work. I wind up deleting everything or I select
audio in the other direction. Could someone please advise.

Also, I am able to monitor what is on the tape while recording. I'm also trying
to monitor the tape prior to recording and this doesn't seem to be happening.
I'd welcome any advice. I don't need a lot of handholding as I like to think
I'm a quick learner.

Many thanks.

Hi Robert,
so you don't have a general purpose, or media library group of plug ins?

On two machines here, there are six groups of plug ins.
I don't know how to help in this case.

Hope you get things sorted out.

Re: Winamp question

2017-07-30 Thread Chris Skarstad

Hi

Under dsp/effect, there should be a section called media library. I
would hesitate to delete or remove any of these plugins unless you're
absolutely sure you want to get rid of them. The absolutely safest
thing to do is to hit alt plus l and hide the media library window from
appearing. If you really want to get rid of the plugins though, the
safest one looks like it might be one called Nullsoft library, and
another one called Online services. But like I say i haven't removed
these, so approach with caution. I have no idea if winamp requires
these plugins to function. That's why I've just hidden the media
library window. Better to be safe than sorry.

I've been a happy SoundForge user since 2002.

Recently I had a partial system crash and had to reconfigure and
reinstall the program.

Everything is working fine but for one small but annoying problem. How
do I get rid of the files with the SFK extension that are saved with the
conclusion of every project? They are saved along with my final mixes.
I know there was a way to do this but since it literally has been a few
years since I had to reinstall Sound Forge I have forgotten how. I've
looked through the menus and it isn't obvious. It is one of those (set

Can someone on the list fill me in on how to do this??

Deleting those SFK files gets old real fast.

Hello to all who have responded to my question so far: I successfully
changed the file name, but can't find a direct link that would allow me to
play the file! It does seem to be a wma file in there somewhere...but seems
to be no way to play it! Any thoughts or suggestions?

While you're focused on the file in your list, press the f2 key and
change the .wpl extention to .txt. Windos will ask you if you really
want to do this, so press the space bar on the yes button and it'll be
changed to a .txt file, which you can open in notepad, and find out what
file this is about.

A 2-part Question Concerning Converting A File To MP3

2016-12-13 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello list: This probably will sound stupid as I don't know what this file
extension (WPL) stands for; am wanting to convert it to an MP3 as it will
not play in its current form; this is a file that someone sent me earlier!
The problem I'm having is trying to convert this file to MP3, using Switch;
the problem is that I can't make it show up in the list of files! How do I
make this happen? Or is this even possible? Perhaps Switch will not deal
with these types of files? Help much appreciated!

as separate tracks. TeamTalk has a feature that records each person to a
different file but I'm wondering why it doesn't record my file. A couple times
it did but lately, I record a test discussion and at the end, there's a file
for everybody but me. I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong. Thanks,

Re: Stereo amp question.

2016-09-23 Thread Dane Trethowan
Stereo Amplifiers as components do not - as a rule - access streaming
music services by themselves, you get the amplifier and then you need to
- not only connect the amplifier to loudspeakers or headphones - but
also have an input device connected and there are a few devices that
come to mind, the Sonos connect would be a good choice here.

If you're living outside the U.S. then another worthwhile device to
consider for this sort of thing with a good amp/speaker setup is the
Sangean WFT3 which I'll be writing a full review on shortly.

to Sound Forge Pro 11. Almost immediately, I regretted my decision as the
program was, for whatever reason, acting sluggishly, it would freeze the system
for up to two minutes at random times while I was trying to get work done, and
the selection commands were unpredictable. Sometimes they'd work great, but
other times material that I hadn't even selected was being affected.
Plus, I hated the fade in and out features in the Mixer dialog, as I was used
to the way things worked with Sound Forge 6, and didn't need my voice to fade
in as music faded out a bit. It finally got to the point where I ended up going
back to Sound Forge 6.0E. Compared to Pro 11, it works beautifully, but I
sometimes notice some pops and clicks in my recordings at times, though I'm not
sure if it's sound card related or not. I also had a heck of a time getting the
program registered on this system as it's an out of date version.
I had begun playing with GoldWave around this time, and noticed that the
recording issue I had with SF wasn't occuring with it.
I'll admit, it took awhile to figure out how to edit material, but the more I
played with the program, the more I liked, especially things like the Trim
command. I also liked the fact that the registration process was much simpler
than it is with Sound Forge. Needless to say, when my evaluation period ran out
after awhile, I didn't hesitate to buy the lifetime license.

Re: Question About GoldWave 6

That’s all fine in theory yes but what about the extra features and bug fixes
in the latest updates? That’s the whole point of updating software - not just
to add feature requests or new concepts - but also to fix bugs, performance
issues and so on.

upgrade to Sound Forge Pro 11. Almost immediately, I regretted my decision

the system for up to two minutes at random times while I was trying to get

Re: Question About GoldWave 6

2016-04-20 Thread Dane Trethowan

Hi there!

I'm using the latest 6 version with NVDA and I've noticed nothing
unusual about accessibility.

If anything unusual is happening regarding accessibility then a quick
note to the author should solve the problem, I know that the developer
has been extremely responsive with a few accessibility problems I
experienced around 7 years ago I think it was now when I first purchased
the product.

As to what you should do? Well it really is a pity that a lot of users
don't have something like Rollback installed on their computer, the
basic version is free.

What will Rollback do? It will give you the easy ability to revert your
computer to the state it was in before you installed new software.

For example, you set a snapshot and then install the new version of
Goldwave. If the new version isn't what you expect then you can revert
back to the Snapshot you took and there you are! system is back as was
and no harm done.

Now the above is just a very simple explanation of Rollback I know but
the explanation should suffice for the current discussion.

Well Tim, thanks for that bit of advice, but I've tried that, and that
takes practically all of my amplification away. I only have the minimum
of enhancement going. I don't even have any equalization, at least not
through the sound card, only through Winamp.

As far as Winamp, my player, and the part it might have to play in the
equation, I don't even have surround sound on at all, because I am
using an old school analog stereo receiver. So, I am open to even more
suggestions.

Thanks much,

Larry

Subject: Question about a sound card issue - maybe

Listers,

Something has been kind of bugging me since I began using this Dell XPS
7500 machine back in march of last year.

It seems to me that the on board Realtech sound card has a
characteristic of making voices sound as if they are cave like,
depending how they are positioned. I think that if they are completely
centered in a stereo version, they sound more reverberous, or as if they
are a bit more in the background than they should be, at least more so
than they sounded with my old Creative Audigy card.

If anybody has also noticed this with either this or any other card, and
have a ready solution to what I at least consider a problem, I would
really like to hear about it.

Guess I can live with it, I have for almost a year, but if it could be
corrected, at least without having to buy another card, in the hopes
that it wouldn't have the same issue, it would be nice.

BTW, my speakers are correctly phased.

Any input or advice on this would be very much appreciated,

Larry

Oh that could be too. But seriously though Tom. Dell does do something odd with
the mother bord audio. I'm surprised Larry hasn't notised it till now. But then
again I heard it straight away over Bose OE2I headphones. I have no idea what
effect dell turns on. I checked mine so I could shut that particular effect off
with out disabeling the ability to use effects, but no banana. Who knows what
dell's up to. It disappoints me to hear they do that noncence with the XPS as
well.

2016-02-26 Thread Larry Higgins

Well Hamit, I gave it a try, and it didn't do enough to mollify me.

I have that old Audigy in the old computer, and have considered taking
it out and installing it on the Dell, but don't know where the cd with
the drivers disappeared too, so that may not really be an option. Might
have to break down and look for and purchase roughly the equivalent of
that card, and hope there isn't hidden gimmickry on that one as well.
But in the meantime ...

As a side note I didn't note it right away and could have left it alone, but
that was only because I use my Bose Companion 5 USB virtual surround sound
system. But for grins and giggles I connected head phones to see what the card
is like. Also to use the Stereo Mix feature.
