Re: drive going bad maybe?

2008-04-27 Thread Terese Ann Goren
I ran into this problem a couple of months ago. When i spoke with
Dell tech support he told me There were some bad registry files that
cause the CD drive to fail after a while. If you go to the link I
posted below and look for "download guided help" this should fix the
problem. This is based on Microsoft support article 314060. Hope this helps.

Re: drive going bad maybe?

2008-04-26 Thread constantine (on laptop)
Hi

1. Have you tried restarting the computer?
2. Have you tried playing just a regular audio cd that you know contains
content?
3. Maybe get an entirely new dvd rom drive. I have a computer here that's 7
or 8 years old and is running fine- so, if the main components stil work,
why change?

High Josh,
To answer the questions in the order you asked them in, they're good for
3000 cleanings.
No, they are just like popping in a regular CD.
My best regards.

Hi,
I guess I'll have to buy one then. How long do those lazer lense cleaning
discs last? and do they run some kind of special program to clean the lazer?
I'm due for a new computer anyway, this one's getting old and it only has
USB1 on it.

Hello Josh,
>From time to time, the lacer lens in those things will need to be cleaned.
I had a CD ROM drive that wouldn't burn CD's.
Some CD's, it wouldn't play either.
I only had it for more then 2 years.
But when I put a lacer lens cleaning disc in it, I didn't have those
problems any more.
Maybe you should try that and see if that solves your problem.
My best regards.

drive going bad maybe?

2008-04-25 Thread Josh
Hi,
Ok my computer is about 6 years old. I got it in 2002. it's a dell. When I
put dvds in to play, sometimes they play and sometimes they don't. And I
don't know why. I have a lidian dvd rom drive. I just put a dvd in to play
it and the drive spins for a little like it's trying to recognise the drive
or the disc in the drive then just stops. I also tried holding down shift
while I closed the drive tray and still nothing. But the dvd played a few
days ago. I think it's time for a new computer soon, unless someone elsehas
another opinion or ideas?
