RE: Winamp start pause and stop
I found it by going into Winamp Preferences with Ctrl+P, then pressing P three times for Plug-ins, arrowing twice down to Output, Tabbing twice to the list of plug-ins. The first one on my list is NullSoft Direct Sound Output. Tab to and activate the Configure Button. This opens a multi-page dialog with five tabs. The middle one is the Fading tab. The fourth press of Tab in that page takes you to a list of five situations where fading is possible, So arrow to the scenario you want to change and tab through and alter the status of check boxes you want to change. I hope that gets you there. Hi Robert, so you don't have a general purpose, or media library group of plug ins? On two machines here, there are six groups of plug ins. I don't know how to help in this case. Re: Winamp question
Hi Under dsp/effect, there should be a section called media library. I would hesitate to delete or remove any of these plugins unless you're absolutely sure you want to get rid of them. The absolutely safest thing to do is to hit alt plus l and hide the media library window from appearing. If you really want to get rid of the plugins though, the safest one looks like it might be one called Nullsoft library, and another one called Online services. But like I say i haven't removed these, so approach with caution. I have no idea if winamp requires these plugins to function. That's why I've just hidden the media library window. Better to be safe than sorry. On 7/30/2017 7:41 PM, Donald L. Roberts wrote: Joe, Thanks so much for the response to my inquiry. I do not find the media library plug in of which you speak. Re: Replacementfor Winamp
hi. there's actually even an easier way. what's happening is that it's a setup screen. make sure that the Winamp classic skin is selected, and everything else should be fine so just click the finish button and you should be good. Everything that you want is turned on by default. to get rid of the Winamp library, simply hit alt plus l and the library will go away. like everything else it's a toggle so if you hit alt l again it'll come back. you may receive a message asking if you want to import your music into the library. tab to the no button and press the space bar and then press alt plus l and everything should be set. by default, the equalizer, main window and playlist editor are all turned on, but the equalizer needs to be activated with the letter n while focused in the equalizer window. you can press control plus tab to cycle between Winamp windows. hope that helps. Winamp and deleting files directly from it?
HI listers Does Winamp have the ability to when done listening to a file, instead of having to go via Windows Explorer to where the file is located at and delete it that way, does Winamp have some sort of way to delete the file directly, so that it too gets deleted from its original location? Re: Winamp alt-3 Key Not Working
Hi Joe, Well, I found it. Apparently, alt-3 was set as a global hot key to read Window 3. So, in the Winamp set file, I undefined that hot key, and now my alt-3 for reading my file info is restored. Your suggestion of using the bypass key gave me the clue to find the problem and solve it. Thanks again and have a good weekend. Re: Winamp?
Only place I know to get it these days is http://www.ninite.com The web page has a bunch of different check boxes for different programs, Winamp is oneof them. So check the box for that, and then press the space bar on the "get installer" button. the next page that comes up lets you download the installer. The great thing about Ninite is that you can check multiple boxes at once, so you can build an installer with all your favorite programs. If you're getting a new pc you can just run it, and it'll install all the programs, one after another. Also, you can keep an installer around, and it'll install the latest version of the program every time a new one comes out. These installers run in the background so there's no next buttons to press, or license agreements to answer yes to. Whoever thought of Ninite deserves a metal. Re: The Demise Of Winamp: Joy To The World!
Greetings, I was not given the option, not sure why because usually I am, hence don't assume we all know our systems intimately, some of us are novices, therefore, you should assume this and "play to the novice" as, usually, I do - I sometimes forget though. It so happens I've been in the computer world since 1969 and a computer professional all my working life, I do know, hence when I noticed it downloading to play, I stopped, modified the link and re-started and with the ?dl=1 on the end, it downloaded as I desired.

Re: I'm looking for software that will scan an mp3 file and fill inthe tag info the way Winamp did.
itunes will not add song info if it only says track 01. it works off a online database for music if the cd your importing as its info on it track name artist ect, then itunes will pick it up and each track will be labeled correctly. itunes alows you to set the option for import automatically when you put in a cd. for me it works great. - Original Message - From: "Dane Trethowan" To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, December 24, 2015 1:19 AM Subject: Re: I'm looking for software that will scan an mp3 file and fill inthe tag info the way Winamp did. All I can say is foobar 2000. Yes you have to set it up yourself but once you do it is so customizable that it can beat anything winamp can do. In fact, you can manage multiple playlists at the same time, copy files from windows explorer, and make your won hot keys for every single command in the program including menu bar, context menus, now-playing context menus, and many many more. Re: The new version of winamp
I've been using Winamp since 1998 and don't intend to stop unless I can find another player that's more accessible and does what i want it to. I'll be interested if and when a new version comes out. You'd have to show me a player that's even better, and that's a tall order. I'm looking for software that will scan an mp3 file and fill in the tag info the way Winamp did.
Hi. One thing that Winamp used to do is have the ability to scan an mp3 file and fill in the tag info. This worked well even if there was no tag in the file. Unfortunately Winamp doesn't do this anymore. Is there a program to do what I want? This even worked if the file names were something like Track 01, Track 02, etc. Thanks for any info. If you all want to think that Winamp is the best then go right ahead but to me its really like saying that the Cats Whisker was the best thing for radio, you’re really fighting a losing battle. Sure, it will be nice if new life is brought into Winamp but for me its easier to move on and look at other options rather than go on about a lost cause and dwell on the past and what was rather than what is. > On 24 Dec 2015, at 1:05 PM, goshawk on horseback > wrote: > > I think it very much depends on what one is doing. > I have to say, that I am also in agreement with those who say that winamp is > still the best, for the following reasons. > 1. especially with the window-eyes app for it, it does give a lot more > information than others I have used, such as track percentage when > fast-forwarding/rewinding, volume percentage, etc. > 2. it seems to have more add-ons for playing various file formats than > others, which certainly for someone like myself, who has audio and video > files of all different formats, is a big plus. > and 3. another big plus for me, is even with out any add-ons, it plays a lot > of formats, both old and new, where as a lot of other players have turned > there backs on playing older formats, mainly from my point of view, .voc, > .au, .iff, .aif, .mod, > .xm, and .s3m files. winamp is just about the only thing that will play > these now. > > Simon > > > - Original Message - > From: "Dane Trethowan" > To: "PC Audio Discussion List" > Sent: Thursday, December 24, 2015 1:15 AM > Subject: Re: The new version of winamp > > > Naturally! > > I use VLC here and that is just as straight forward and I’m sure there are > other players that others use that are straight forward. > > I’m not saying VLC is the best player either, its all down to preference of > course but to say that other players aren’t straight forward to use just isn’t > true. > > I did buy Winamp Pro, that’s how much I liked Winamp at one time however > that was quite some time ago and since that time Winamp became very bloated > and I started having crashes when I tried to play video, not just on one > machine either and I discovered the incidents of Winamp crashing weren’t > isolated so time to go looking for other players. > > I also enjoy using Windows Media Player and a lot of people I’m sure will > say that this player is straight forward. > > And don’t tell me that Winamp has features that no other player does because > that’s just not true. > > And finally I’ve not tried the latest Winamp for Windows though I have > downloaded the Mac and Android versions so may look at those a little later > on, anyone here tried the Windows version yet? I won’t say that VLC has more nor less but it does have many of the features that Winamp has. I’ve never claimed that VLC or Windows Media Player etc are the best and I will never ever claim that but I will say that both are good players, both have good and bad points and Winamp, VLC Windows Media Player or anything else for that matter isn’t the be-and-all of media players. > On 24 Dec 2015, at 1:02 PM, Barry Chapman wrote: > > Well whether Winamp is the best or not is a matter of opinion, but I can say > that I don't know of any other player which has all of the features that I > use on a regular basis. Re: The new version of winamp
I think it very much depends on what one is doing. I have to say, that I am also in agreement with those who say that winamp is still the best, for the following reasons. 1. especially with the window-eyes app for it, it does give a lot more information than others I have used, such as track percentage when fast-forwarding/rewinding, volume percentage, etc. 2. it seems to have more add-ons for playing various file formats than others, which certainly for someone like myself, who has audio and video files of all different formats, is a big plus. and 3. another big plus for me, is even with out any add-ons, it plays a lot of formats, both old and new, where as a lot of other players have turned there backs on playing older formats, mainly from my point of view, .voc, .au, .iff, .aif, .mod, .xm, and .s3m files. winamp is just about the only thing that will play these now. RE: The new version of winamp
Well whether Winamp is the best or not is a matter of opinion, but I can say that I don't know of any other player which has all of the features that I use on a regular basis. Just a few that come to mind are: 1. Ability to play, pause, stop go back a track and go forward a track with one finger of my left hand. This is important to me when I use Winamp to stream and need to use my right hand to control my mixer. 2. The ability to move forward and back in five second increments with one finger. 3. An option to stop playing after the current track in a playlist. 4. The ability to locate a track in Windows explorer and add it to the Winamp playlist, either after the currently playing track or at the end of the playlist. 5. The ability to search for a track in a playlist and move it to after the currently playing track. 6. The ability to delete tracks from a playlist. 7. The ability to save a modified playlist. 8. The ability to cross fade tracks with a configurable plugin. 9. The ability to equalise the volume of all playing tracks with a configurable plugin. 10. The ability to have title information show up in Edcast when streaming. 11. The ability to find the length of a track in time as well as being able to find out the elapsed time and time remaining of a currently playing track. 12. The ability to select a sound card other than the default for the output. 13. The ability to edit and modify ID3 tags in MP3 files. 14. The ability to review tracks in a playlist by arrowing up and down. 15. The ability to search a playlist for tracks containing key words. 16. The ability to press enter on a track in Windows Explorer and have it start playing without the focus moving from Windows Explorer. 17. The ability to set a placemarker in a file when using JAWS. 18. The ability to set bookmarks for streams. 19. The ability to play a wide range of audio formats. 20. The ability to jump to a specific time in a track. 21. The ability to play the last few seconds of a track (possibly a JAWS feature). 22. The ability to easily get information about streams and tracks, such as the bit rate. I'm sure there are other features that don't come to mind immediately. If Dane or anyone else can tell me of another free or low cost player which they know will doo all of the above as well or better than Winamp, I would be willing to give it a try. Re: The new version of winamp
Naturally! I use VLC here and that is just as straight forward and I’m sure there are other players that others use that are straight forward. I’m not saying VLC is the best player either, its all down to preference of course but to say that other players aren’t straight forward to use just isn’t true. I did buy Winamp Pro, that’s how much I liked Winamp at one time however that was quite some time ago and since that time Winamp became very bloated and I started having crashes when I tried to play video, not just on one machine either and I discovered the incidents of Winamp crashing weren’t isolated so time to go looking for other players. I also enjoy using Windows Media Player and a lot of people I’m sure will say that this player is straight forward. And don’t tell me that Winamp has features that no other player does because that’s just not true. And finally I’ve not tried the latest Winamp for Windows though I have downloaded the Mac and Android versions so may look at those a little later on, anyone here tried the Windows version yet? Re: The new version of winamp
Well it won’t be the worlds best media player if its not accessible will it and there are plenty of people who would dispute your generalisation regarding Winamp being the World’s best media player. > On 24 Dec 2015, at 11:44 AM, Brian wrote: > > Winamp will always be the best player for screen reader users and keyboard > users so you are a very big lier. if the new winamp is better and still > accessable I would conciter using it but if not I will just keep using > version 5.66 > Brian Sackrider > > On 12/23/2015 4:45 PM, Dane Trethowan wrote: >> Don’t care any more as there are so many good alternatives anyway, the best >> thing that every happened in the media player world was the announcement >> made that development would cease on Winamp and as yet I’ve not heard any >> convincing reason as to why anyone should mourn the loss of this software. >> >> If a new company has taken Winamp over and development has started again >> then all well and good but I do think the player became far too bloated is >> is very much over rated. >> >> >>> On 24 Dec 2015, at 8:16 AM, Hank Smith, and Seeing-eye dog Iona >>> wrote: >>> >>> its about time they released it >>> had no idea that they released a new version >>> >>> On 12/23/2015 2:12 PM, Larry Higgins wrote: >>>> Hello listers, >>>> >>>> Just wanted to know if any of you have used the latest version of Winamp >>>> from Radionomy? Don’t care any more as there are so many good alternatives anyway, the best thing that every happened in the media player world was the announcement made that development would cease on Winamp and as yet I’ve not heard any convincing reason as to why anyone should mourn the loss of this software.
