Re: OT: Which Camera Bag
Andy F writes: > Any other info (or other brand/model suggestions) would be much appreciated. If you're happy with LowePro gear you could take a look at their AW series. I have a Compact AW which is one of the lesser-astronomically-priced models and it suits me pretty well (it's a great medium format bag). I also have a Nova 3 which I grew out of (it still makes a good "travelling light" bag). My requirements were a little different from yours however; I wanted a bag where I could access anything without having to screw around with multiple "layers" of equipment. I was getting very frustrated with my Nova 3 today because of all the gear I'd tried to cram into it :) Cheers, - Dave David A. Mann, B.E. And then she led me to her car, a Sky Blue 1974 AMC Pacer which she said she'd driven from Iowa with dreams of becoming a White House intern. Of course, they had more then their fair share of interns there, all working *very* hard, so she had to shelve that dream, but I digress... She opened the trunk...wait, no...hmm. She opened the ass of the car to show me what looked like an altar. There was a picture of Bart Starr, a bowl of cheese curds, and a 6 pack of Pabst. I think there was an old Bratwurst there too, but it may have been a half smoked swisher sweet. Hard to say. It was all stacked on an oversized edition of "The Bridges of Madison County" which itself was supported by a decoratively arranged block of 'indian' corn. She said since she'd been out here, she'd never met anyone who'd even *heard* of cheese curd, much less brought it up out of the blue in a conversation, and that the ghost of Mike Ditka (who lives in her head) told her I was the *one*. I mentioned Mike Ditka was still alive, but she seemed to be lost in reverie. We cracked that Pabst, toasted dairy products in all their varieties and watched cars drive through suburbia. OT: Which Camera Bag
Sorry that this is OT. I now need a new camera bag - my Lowepro Nova 3 is no longer big enough for 2 SLR bodies and lenses. I'm fairly sure that a Nova 4 would just be large enough, but I'm not keen to buy another Nova series bag as my Nova 3 let in water when I spent 3hrs walking in the rain. I've also discounted the street and field reporter range - as the top flap doesn't have a zip to keep the dust out. I'm considering mail-ordering a Tamrac Pro System 8 Model 608 which is supposed to be "water proof". I have a few questions: 1) Does it come with a good selection of movable dividers. 2) Are the dividers suitable for 2 SLRs (with lenses mounted) positioned vertically, lens down. 3) Does the lens gate system cope with large diameter (72mm filter thread) lenses. 4) Does it really keep the water out. Any other info (or other brand/model suggestions) would be much appreciated. (I promise to be on topic next time I ask a question) Andy F. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. RE: OT: Suggestions for things to see/do in Cleveland OH?
Date: Fri, 13 Jul 2001 10:36:28 -0400 From: "Peifer, William [OCDUS]" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: OT: Suggestions for things to see/do in Cleveland OH? Hi all, I'm hoping some members from our Midwest contingent can offer a bit of advice. We're taking three of our grandchildren (ages 6, 9, and 11) for a few days to Cleveland for a short vacation visit to Six Flags amusement . Bill Peifer Rochester, NY Bill; I am not sure how long you will be in town or when, but in no particular order, here are a few things I like: 1. Near the end of East 9th Street, you have the Rock n Roll Hall of fame (special John Lennon exhibit), USS Cod (WWII submarine, tours), USS Mather (ore ship, tours), Tall ships (schooners and such, tours through this weekend, sailing away on sunday), Great Lakes Science Center (Omnimax theater is showing the Amazon and Amazing Caves depending on time) and the Goodtime III which has very nice tours of the Cuyohoga River where you can observe just about every imaginable type of bridge (scissors, lift, etc). 2. University Circle Cleveland Museum of Art, ("The Model Wife" exhibit is of particular interest, also did a nice job of renovating its knights armor exhibit) the Crawford Auto museum (great vintage stuff), Children's Museum (totally interactive, your grandkids would love this), Hershey Children's Garden (giant tree house and kids interactive stuff, next to the Botanical Gardens which is mostly in renovation right now) Natural History museum, Health Museum, Severance Hall (home of the Cleveland Orchestra, very pretty inside, tours, Cain Park Arts festival (this weekend). Little Italy is in this area if you like good Italian food. 3. Miscellaneous. Terminal Tower (observation deck on the 42 floor), Cleveland Library Garden (small neat reading area), Lolley the Trolley tours of Cleveland (nice overview), Lake Farm Park (nice for kids), the Cleveland Zoo (nice, especially the rain forest), metroparks for picnicing, Tower City (terminal tower) for shopping. About 2 hours to the west are Cedar Point Amusement Park (a most amazing variety of roller coasters, the world's tallest?) and the Lake Erie islands (fishing and general fooling around). About 1 hour to the east is Mentor Headlands which is a very nice beach if you like sand and water. Be sure to bring bathing suits with you to Six Flags and get ready to walk across that %@*)!@# boardwalk. Well, that should keep you busy. dave ___ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. FYI:MZ-S now in the UK
FYI. If like me, you live in the UK, want to buy an MZ-S and have had one on order with no real idea of when they would be arriving over here, well I can tell you that they are now available. I've just bought mine from the local camera shop at the Jessops price. The shop had ordered two, but only got the one. Its black. I haven't yet put a film through it or tested it for the bug. Re: MX mirror not swinging back into place below 1/250th
Hi Nicole, I had this problem intermittently with my first MX, it was because the damping foam around the focussing screen had deteriorated and turned sticky. Now and again it would be sticky enough to catch hold of the mirror and stop it from returning. Thanks for that link, Gary. Fortunately the KM manual is a PDF document and thus only one file. I have downloaded it and will let my K1000 friend know. Ray Allen. Sydney. Australia. Re: can someone recommend a good lens shade?
Hi, you won't get one shade that's good for both of them. You don't say whether you're looking for a plastic or a metal shade (or wood or glass or whatever...), or for clip-on or screw-on. My personal preference is for metal screw-on shades because they afford a high degree of protection to the lens. The best brand for me is B+W. They do wide-angle, normal and tele shades in the full range of fittings. Other brands worth considering include Heliopan and Nikon, although Nikon only supply them for Nikon thread sizes. I've always found it practically impossible to get the correct Pentax hoods. You can often find lens shades very cheaply in the box of bits that most decent camera shops have. --- Bob mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Saturday, July 14, 2001, 4:44:07 AM, you wrote: > I have a K1000 with a 50mm lens.
