Most likely a small mirror at 45 deg. The lens is behind the mirror and zooming is invisible inside the camerabody. Minolta was first. Good questions. The dust appears to have been mostly on the outside - I think I got most of it with a swab. I'm too purist and too lazy for that. ;-) I had Cokin filters once and I'm too careless and they scratch too easy. I'm not against using filters. It's just that on dark, overcast days, in the shade of trees, in some place like Mt. Rainier National Park, I rarely had to use anything than a polarizer when shooting Velvia (Jack). With a camera having a minum ISO of 200, I't pretty much a given that filters will be required. Re: Optio 330 - Is my Optio's sensor toast?
Short answer, Yes. My 330R, which my wife inherited, never showed this problem before it was stolen. I bought a used 330 as a replacement. After a few months it started producing images just like the ones you are showing. I sent it for Pentax repair, it worked for awhile and then started the same thing again. I bought a used 550 from eBay as a replacement; after a few months it started producing images just like the ones you are showing. I sent it for Pentax repair, it worked for awhile and then started the same thing again plus other problems. I suggested a 750 as a replacement since no 330's or 550's were out there, she opted for a Leica DLux-3 instead. Which would be a fine camera if it only had a viewfinder... stan On Aug 23, 2007, at 9:06 AM, Christian wrote: > My Optio 330 has been on permanent loan to my dad for a few years. Re: Just Bought a KX
I'd agree with those recommendations. I started out with a Spotmatic II, but would have much preferred a Spotmatic F; open-aperture metering is a very nice feature. I never had any of the earlier K mounts; I started with an MX (which I still have). In the intervening years I've owned an ME (too automatic), an ME Super, a Super Program, a PZ-1p and an MZ-S. About the only one of those that I wouldn't recommend for all-around photography is the ME - the rest are all classics in their own way: MXSmall, simple, full manual camera (capable of 5fps with the optional motor drive!) ME Super Last of the cameras that work without batteries Super Program The high point of the manual focus bodies PZ-1p 4.3fps, 1/8000 shutter speed; excellent for flash. Introduced the two-wheel hyper program interface that was also used in the *ist-D and K10D. MZ-S The last, and best, of the MZ bodies. Re: Some quick monitor info
Paul, > It seems my CRT monitor is about to bite the dust - it's starting to > exhibit keystoning so I suspect the yoke is becoming a problem. If I > were to consider an LCD, what important specs should I be looking for? not all LCDs are made equal, even when all of them say "Active matrix TFT". Currently (S-)IPS panels are probably the best for colour corrections/photo editing, followed by PVA and MVA. Most of the common LCDs are made using basic TN technology which is quite inferior to the above mentioned due to significant colour shifts when viewed from an angle among other things (fine for the office stuff though). If tech specs mention viewing angles 178/178, it's most probably PVA/MVA based display, 170/170 is characteristic of IPS. Latest TN panels offer 160/160 but I'd say it's more like 150/130 as the visible difference is considerably higher. Of course there are some other important aspects like quality and uniformity of the backlighting or internal gamma/LUT adjustements capabilities but the quality of the screen is primarily determined by used panel technology. There's nothing to burn out on the shutter, Amita. You might run the battery dry and then the camera will shut down. The shutter is simply a mechanical device with a couple of springs and magnets. Hello Pentax Please add this feature in the next firmware upgrade: Add a feature to multiply the focal length reported by the lens by a user entered factor e.g 1.4x 2x 1.7x and operate the SR system based on that.. We're talking relatively short exposure times. Frequently and often under 10 minutes. Depending on the subject and the setup, maybe not open for even a minute. The art is such that multiple exposures are digitally stacked and aligned so that luminance builds up, for example, 20 3-minutes exposures = a single 1 hour exposure. The other answer is, apparently not that often... :-) I don't have a dedicated DSLR for astrophotography, but if I do it will be a Canon (if I was buying one today). But as I said, I can't get a long enough exposure time to do the job I want with much greater than ISO 3. I don't stack filters, I have a 6 and an 8 stop ND. It's just not *wanting* to use the filters, or use them as little as possible. You start stacking filters and using small apertures and the view through the viewfinder is too dark to use. :-) Tom C. >From: Godfrey DiGiorgi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List >To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List >Subject: Re: OT: DPR Nikon D3, Full-Frame, previewed >Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2007 11:48:33 -0700 > > >On Aug 23, 2007, at 11:23 AM, Amita Guha wrote: > > > Funny you should mention it, I put my remaining 3 manual Pentaxes up > > on ebay this week. I've never missed ISO 100 or ISO 50. When I want to blur moving water, either of them is too high anyway. ISO 50 in sunny daylight is only 1/50 second @ f/11, 1/15 at f/22. I use a six-stop ND filter that renders ISO 200 to ISO 3 on the *ist DS, and ISO 100 to ISO 1.5 on the K10D. That lets me shoot at exposure times in the 1/4-1/2 second range, f/11, in sunny daylight. An eight-stop ND filter, or adding a polarizer, drops that further into the 1 to 4 second range, and dropping to f/22 runs the time out as far as 16 seconds. The main thing is their extremely low noise characteristics. Noise will build up in any sensor of course, but of all the DSLR's out there, the Digital Rebels and the 5D are recognized as the best. There's also hardware (filter mods) and control software that's been written for them Surpassing them are the dedicated, cooled, CCD cameras specifically designed for astrophotography, that both record the image and send guiding signals to the scope's computer, off of one chip. Sorry, i did keep the original file, he just wanted a file to use for a web thing, and he sent me back his adjutments. I also went and printed several other horse photos from different days, and they came out dark aswell. The photos them selves are nice and crisp and sharpness is right were it should be. Maybe i'll re calibrate and try again. Re: OT: DPR Nikon D3, Full-Frame, previewed
What's wrong with that? It's simply making a statement that there's a feature or attribute that may not be to my liking. On the flip-side, there's plenty of things to like. Like I said, I havn't noticed so gigantic a difference in viewfinders that it would sway me one way or another in making a purchase decision. It must be acceptable for most people's use otherwise most people (or a significant portion of the customer base) wouldn't be buying them. I'm sure there's plenty of happy regular Joe's shooting with Digital Rebels. Viewfinder aside, they are a standout in astrophotography circles, with the most bang for the buck of any DSLR. I would prefer a lower native ISO particularly for moving water shots which I like to take, because as you know, it would at times preclude the use of filters other than a polarizer when needed. Re: Sorry, another Epson 2400 problem
So have you tried going back to your original reference file for the photo, with the embedded profile, and printing from that? The customer file was evidently stripped of any profile information, which means you need to profile it properly and readjust it for printing.. If you are not keeping a reference file for work you sell, well, you ought to be... It's the only way to assure that you can reproduce exactly what you've done before. I keep a reference image file of a grayscale and macbeth color chart handy so I can proof the printer in case there is any question against prior print runs, like when I change ink carts or change monitor/printer configurations. Re: PESO: My new Aunt
Excellent setting. Offers an array of compositions, one of which you've chosen well. Reviewed your gallery and recognized some carousel shots seen and comment on earlier. Some very nice work.
