Something here doesn't quite work for me. It might be

Taken earlier this evening, at a free concert. She's a local blues-ish
singer with a very unique voice and sound to her music. It was a good
concert.

This was with the DS2 and the A50/1.4. That was the only lens I
brought with me, since I just carrying the camera around my neck. I
did the B&W conversion in Lightroom, then I cropped/resized and
adjusted levels slightly in Photoshop.

I have the Canon 400/5.6 prime with similar foot and it is a very
tight fit around the FA*300/4.5 and can only go on slipped over the
end of the lens which they are not designed to do. They have a
latching clasp clamp ring that is supposed to fit around the lens,
clasp shut and then secured with a locking knob. Maybe the tripod
rings for the 70-200/4's are a bit bigger than this one on my
400/5.6, if so they probably work.
I might venture down to my local Canon dealer to see for myself.
That is if they'll let me remove one to see if it fits the Pentax.

Boris,

A little slow in commenting, but anyway:

41 almost works, but for me having the photographer's
reflection in the glass makes it not work. That
scrunched-up stance we use is just so characteristic.
Don't know how you could have gotten anyone else's
reflection there, but anyway...

42 is a nice flower shot.

43 has excellent lines and shadows. Great shot!

No, the naming convention is a Standard that specifies 4-digit file
names among other things. I'd recommend renaming when you copy the files
over (I personally have Lightroom prepend the date in front at import so
every filename is something like 20071103-IMGP2056.jpg, indicating the
shot was taken on Nov 3, 2007)

To quote the seller's answer to my query:

Hi there, you are right.I use the picture only for ilustration
purpose only .The rings ( FA & A ) are identical,except inner
diameter ( 5mm diferent )Thanks for your interest ! Paul

I am not sure exactly what he means.
1. As Bob pointed out, the illustrated lens is actually the K version.
2. Not clear if he is saying that he has one that fits the pictured
lens which is pretty close to the same size as needed for the FA, or
if he is saying that he has multiple versions with different size rings.

Here's the bit from the FA manual on the clamp. It isn't as descriptive
in the DFA manual.

'[I]f you turn the clamp screw to the ON position, rotation of teh
focusing ring becomes tight. This helps to prevent the rotation of the
focusing ring due to the lens's own weight and avoid any shift in focus"

http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/manual/FA_Lenses_112205.pdf

On the FAs, the focus is squeaky when the clamp is on. On the DFA, its
hard to describe, but it certainly feels cheaper.

The bridge actually had both ends in Minneapolis. The Mpls/St. Paul
division on the river is a few miles downstream.

The bridge I'm standing on to take those pictures also has both ends
in Minneapolis - but about 2 miles behind me (downstream) is where St.
Paul comes up to the river and then the river is a border between the
two cities.

I didn't say without flash. No flash would be "not enough" flash.

But, I think this has too much. Perhaps one or two stops less would be

it doesn't have an A-M switch. Love the funky bayonet dome hood and dome

Re: Camera bags (yet again)

2007-11-03 Thread Bruce Dayton
Well, as someone who owns 7 different bags now, I have always found
that going to a store with the gear and trying to put it all in really
helps you narrow down your choices to bags that are actually going to
fit. So that is my suggestion - go to a store or two that carries a
bunch of backpacks with your gear. You'll pay a little more, but get
the bag that fits everything the way you want. Also don't forget that
for most of us, the kit increases in size over time.

One thing I've noticed about those compact fluorescent bulbs is that
they don't put out as much light as they're rated to. The one that is
supposed to put out the equivalent of a 100W incandescent bulb just
*does not*; at least, not to my eye.

I had to replace them with 150W equivalent compacts to get enough light,
although it still saves electricity, just not as much.

OT: Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5,6 EX DC HSM

2007-11-03 Thread Jens Bladt
I attended a camera show today.
I was specifically looking for a nice wide angle zoom. And for the DA 2.8
16-50mm. They didn't offer the latter (currently sold out).
So, I ordered the Sigma 10-20mm F/4-5,6 EX DC HSM
Does anyone here use this lens:
Your opinions will be greatly apprecialtet.

BTW:
I tried the SMC DA 2.8 50-135mm. They sell it her for appr 2000 USD !!!
WOW!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bladt/sets/72157602887064821/

If I needed one (more) portrait lens, this would definitely be my first
choise.
Until then, I'll be saving up for the DA 16-50mm
Thanks

I was driving over the Mississippi last night and saw the flats
downstream from the collapsed 35w bridge where they were piecing
together the wreckage to figure out what happened.

I parked a ways away and hiked back to the bridge to take some shots.
No tripod, and it wouldn't have mattered anyway as the bridge was
constantly bouncing up and down from all of the trucks and buses going
across. Still, I found it "visually interesting" at least in person.

There are a few shots if you go along the sequence there. It was very
freaky to stand down there next to all of the twisted metal.

Dave, from time to time here there have been discussions about adding an

I have the Lowerpo Mini Trekker AW.

It is a good bag, and hold about 4-5 lenses, two bodies, one with
16-45 attached and one with out a lens.

Nice size and weight

She was wild then, and still is. Its rare to catch her sitting at all.:-)

Re: Camera bags (yet again)

Here's my main bag. Been carting it around for years and it is still
in incredible shape:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/279323-REG/
Lowepro_1990310_Mini_Trekker_Classic_Backpack.html

I've never put a Crown Graphic in it, but I have carried piles of
35mm/DSLR gear, and also had a P67 set-up with 35mm back-up array at
the same time in it.

Camera bags (yet again)

2007-11-03 Thread Scott Loveless
Hey, gang!

This is yet another "tell me what to buy" inquiry. I'm looking for a
back pack to lug my gear around. Until recently I had been happy with
shoulder bags, but the death march up Grandfather mountain last spring
convinced me otherwise. I'm looking for something with padded straps.
Chest and waist straps would be nice, too. Lash points for accessory
bags and a tripod are a must. The pack should be able to accommodate
the following three loading scenarios (one at a time, of course):
1. 35mm rig. Two bodies, 3 or 4 lenses, gadgets (filters, etc.) and a
whole lotta film.
2. P645 and 3 or 4 lenses, more gadgets, lots of film and between 2 and
4 film inserts.
3. 4x5 field camera (OK, it's really a Crown Graphic with all the extra
crap stripped off), 6 to 12 film holders, up to 2 additional lenses (I
only have one right now), light meter, 35mm body and one zoom lens.

My current front-runner is the f.64 BP (not the BPX). I think this bag
may do the trick, especially if I add a couple pouches for film. Plus,
it comes with two pouches for 4x5 holders.

Thanks, Doug. I grabbed one of the bulbs. This is printed on the side:

The Voightlander SL's have been available in KA mount for a while (3-4
years at least), the line had for the most part lingered while Cosina
concentrated on their rangefinder line and later the Zeiss production.
It looks like they're relaunching the line now.
