RE: What plans do you have for old digital SLRs?
I have only ever twice sold a camera: a Voigtlander Vito CD, which was my first ever serious camera, and a Fujica ST701n, which was a replacement for a stolen SV, which had been my first SLR. I now have several Spotmatics, an SV (bought on a whim because it is identical to the one stolen, and is a joy to use), an ES, a K2, an ME, an SFN, an Espio 70 and an MZ-S in Pentax, and a Fed 4 for 35mm film, a Rolleicord for medium format, and in digital, one compact, an Optio 4WR, and one SLR, an *ist-D, and I doubt I'll ever sell any of them, being as much of a lover of classic cameras as a photographer. I've also got a box full of dead Pentax 35mm and digital compacts of various recent models which came gratis from a local distributor clear-out. My workhorse cameras are the MZ-S or SV for film, and the *ist-D for digital. The Optio is carried in the car, or is used by my wife on the rare occasions she wants to use a camera. The *ist-D and just two lenses, the 16-45 and 50-200 were what I carried for a recent trip to Egypt and Spain, and served me very well: the results are excellent and the kit was light and easy to carry in a small backpack. I may consider buying the next Pentax digital SLR, depending upon price and size: I don't need or want a behemoth of a camera which doubles as a weight-training tool, nor do I really need full-frame - but it would be interesting to see how my collection of Pentax lenses of various eras perform on such a sensor. If I do, the *ist-D may go to one of my granddaughters, who is expressing an interest in photography as a career - I know, don't encourage her! I tend to hang onto cameras. In all honestly, I should dump most of my film cameras. The problem is that I'd keep the nicest one (the MZ-S) and then get so little for the others it wouldn't be worth selling. I gave my MX and ZX-7 to the Art dept. for photo classes and I kept the MZ-S, the Sp500, and the 645. Keeping the SP500 (vs the MX) is definitely a sentimental choice but it still works fine and it was my first camera. Re: OT: Got my book from Blurb.com
Yes, I ordered the 8x10 hardcovers, one of each type. I actually liked the quality of the picture reproduction on the dust cover version over the printed directly on the cover. Here are two shots of the book, the last two on the smugmug page. http://walthamler.smugmug.com/gallery/4592986_mrB5J#350718693_wbVmC As you can see the book is a "novel" or short story, 62 pages. It takes a couple hours to read at one setting if you are a normal reader. I am working up some pics to do a photo book of about 12 to 18 pages. We will see :-) Darn this is fun!!! RE: Those having the budget and needing a really powerful (and heavy)laptop
You should have realized by now that "portable" in photographic parlance means that it has a handle (wheels optional). If it has wheels but no handle it is "moveable". I certainly could see where the code was spat out into the HTML page... but what I'd really like to do is somehow edit the HTML Web Engine so that it puts that "next" code right in there automatically. Editing all of the HTML pages (scripted or not) doesn't really appeal. I'm playing around with the "TTG HTML 1.61 Gallery" engine right now (third-party freeware) to see if it works out. Seems to generate clean code although the menus on the right-hand side prior to generating the gallery are a bit more convoluted than the ones from Adobe. -Charles -- Charles Robinson - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Minneapolis, MN http://charles.robinsontwins.org -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Lightroom web gallery modification question
What it does is pretty easy to see if you look at the HTML source code. On a small test gallery of three photos, I was able to move the URL into the right position so that the clickTarget action did the move to the next image rather than a return to the index view. It's simple: there's an ... bracketing line which surrounds the display line in each image's HTML source file. Replace the '../index.html' with the address of the next photo and you're in. I imagine that a good perl coder could find the pattern and edit the exported HTML source with only minor manual intervention. What I'm not sure is how to prepare a template that would allow Lightroom to generate this variant of the HTML gallery display, as editing the source for a gallery with a lot of images is nothing I'd want to do by hand. I'm sure the information on how to do this is available somewhere. Lightroom web gallery modification question
Here's one thing I'd really like to change about the behavior of the HTML galleries which are created by Lightroom: When one clicks on a large image, I'd LOVE it to go to the next image. Right now, clicking on the large image brings you back to the index of thumbnails. Has anyone poked around the innards of the scripting which is generated by Lightroom to see if there is a way to change the behavior? Basically, I'd like the large image to behave the same as the "NEXT" link when clicked. Seems simple enough, yet complicated. -Charles -- Charles Robinson - [EMAIL PROTECTED] Minneapolis, MN http://charles.robinsontwins.org -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Thanks all for looking and commenting. I've been wanting to do some work in that little area for months. It's the attic of a house I am renovating, and the light is wonderful. A friend found us the model and we spent a couple of hours shooting. The flash gallery is a Photoshop automaton. There are a couple of different ones available, that was the first one. I did the same series with the other one, and then played a bit with the code, but I'm not really happy with the results, especially the placement of the controls, which I can't figure out how to reposition. At least it makes bigger thumbnails and doesn't have them dancing around, so that's an improvement over gallery 1. The entire gallery was just over 1mb, which accounts for it's fast loading. I'm not a big fan of flash, but I am quite likely going to be doing more work like this over the next while, and I want a display platform that is less easy to rip off. Re: PESO: Tent Girls
Thanks Rick. No, didn't shoot the official encounter. The cop sort of snuck up on us while I was showing the girls the pics I had shot. I might not have anyway. I've seen the police. react very negatively to being photographed in action. Paul On Aug 11, 2008, at 9:54 PM, Rick Womer wrote: > Paul, > > I really like the first one. Re: PUG is up
Once again some fine work here: Favourites? Lots, and mentioning just a few is unfair but these are the ones that particularly caught my attention. Tumulus by Filip Nicolai - nicely minimalist Some architecture and its two architects by Toralf - an unexpected interpretation of the theme Brio by Walter Hamler - love those curved trees! Children playing at Mashid Abdul Gafoor Mosque by Jos van der Hijden - the ornate design, the shadows and the two children add up to a great composition Tower by David Savage - unusual combination of colours, particularly in the sky Meis' Masterpiece by frank theriault - eye-catching contrast An old Russian Church by Ken Waller - I really like the way the foreground has been included in the composition here Chicago Blue by Christine Aguila - quite a dramatic building and enhanced by the reflections And I also like Churchill Rugby Cup by Yebo Gogo - better late than never! Now, if someone can explain to me what "Documentary and Reportage" is all about, I'll go out a shoot something for next month. :-)> Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://members.westnet.com.au/brianwal/SL/ On Mon, 11 Aug 2008 17:00:23 -0400, "Scott Loveless" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> said: > The August PUG is up. http://pug.komkon.org/ We got a couple late > "action" photos, so I stuck them at the bottom.
