GESO - A Day with the Optio Z10
Actually, day before yesterday, after a 4~6 snow fall around Everett, WA. on Thursday last. JPEG originals. http://gallery.me.com/jomac#100278view=mosaicbgcolor=blacksel=0 Starting last night, it's been snowing off and on. So far another 3 ~ 6. Hard to tell 'cause the winds have drifted the light stuff. And my deck is covered by some fir trees, so not too much gets through. Now the news says it'll keep going thru until Tuesday, with another 3~6. Then I'll get out for some more photos. But I think I'll cancel my Dr.'s appt. tomorrow morning in Seattle. 41 miles in rush hour traffic. I'm totally confused about Aperture, Pentax, EXIF, MobileMe, and captions. I type in captions for each photo, and this time, none showed in the Info screen. Sometimes they do. I get a description block of about 250 words to type in a blurb about each gallery I post. A partial line shows up under the title. No way to get the rest to show up. And nothing I have found in the various forums with solutions, just questions. So forgive me for not giving enough information. I try to. You can download these images at camera resolution, less cropping. Some of them are cropped as much as 50%. So let me know what you think. Especially regards noise. And, I forgot to send this 5 hours ago, so I'll pile on with another gallery I just published. Same Day - K20D http://gallery.me.com/jomac#100285view=mosaicsel=0 Same deal with letting me know, by kind, be unkind, but... Be. Re: Its almost 2009 - Who's still shooting 35mm film?
I have 4 rolls of 120 BW sitting in a box that needs to be developed. I still have some chemicals, unopened, so maybe i;'ll do that over my Xmas break. I shot film after i bought my D1, as i was afraid of damaging the camera, and it was the equine show camera, that was to make money with. That make any sense.?? Any way, once i picked up the second Nikon camera and the istD, i had back ups for the horse shows, so i pretty much stopped film in 2005, with just the odd 6x7 shoot. Can't say i miss it at all. rechargeable batteries - any wisdom?
Hello all! It looks like one of my two recent sets of AA batteries for my *ist DS has suddenly died, so I am looking for a replacement. What is the current wisdom about rechargeable AA batteries? Re: OT Some winter observations
About 3 weeks ago, we had approximately 2 inches of snow overnight. The roads were pretty greasy because the temperature was hovering around zero (Celcius) and more fell in the morning. About 11.00am, it was announced over the radio that local companies had taken their buses off the road. College management immediately closed all centres and sent the students home, followed by the staff some 40 minutes later. Of course, by the time the edict had been fulfilled, the roads were clear. When I asked what would be the likely outcome of a sent-home student trudging though the snow and being hit by a vehicle, I was greeted with the sort of look reserved for Zaphod Beeblebrox. Re: rechargeable batteries - any wisdom?
Sanyo Eneloop and Uniross Hybrio are the way to go. They last a lot longer than standard Ni-MH (twice or more), especially because they have negligible auto-discharge as opposed to extra-quick auto discharge of high-mAh rated NiMH batteries. That's precious if you don't use/recharge your batteries daily or so. Re: OT Some winter observations
In the case of Toronto, just shy of 50% of the population is from another country (We have the largest percentage of immigrants of any city in the world at 48% of the population) and most of those countries are places that see snow rarely if ever. So a large chunk of the population doesn't know how to deal with snow and Toronto doesn't get enough to teach them properly. -Adam On Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 10:16 AM, Luiz Felipe luiz.fel...@techmit.com.br wrote: Here (Fortaleza, Brasil) we had some 5 years without rain - at all. Re: rechargeable batteries - any wisdom?
Dario Bonazza wrote: Sanyo Eneloop and Uniross Hybrio are the way to go. They last a lot longer than standard Ni-MH (twice or more), especially because they have negligible auto-discharge as opposed to extra-quick auto discharge of high-mAh rated NiMH batteries. That's precious if you don't use/recharge your batteries daily or so. I second (or third) the Sanyo Eneloop recommendation. Dario, thanks for mentioning the Uniross Hybrio--I hadn't heard of those. I'm getting 800-900 shots from a charged set of 4 Eneloops in my K100D Super. These batteries not only hold their charge better, but they don't suffer from voltage-droop as they discharge. But when they are finally flat, you get very little warning and then the camera shuts off, so buy two full sets and keep the charged spares with you! Get a smart charger. This is the kind that only charges the cells until they are measured to be full (charge current drops to a trickle). They charge faster and are kinder to the cells. Sadly, we can always count on some people to turn out stupid and dishonest at the worst moments. In southern BR we had an emergency due to extra heavy rains, and some of the relief stuff was sold by an enterprising gang. Government also played a very important role in that tragedy - the rain was just too intense, and no one had the idea of warning about probable landslides. And of course, many would just not go away the risk areas until it was too late. Re: testing the G1 ...
Hi, I'm just finishing a review of the same camera right at the moment (goes to our local computer/photo magazine). About the EVF - unfortunately no, it is NOT true 1.44Mpix. The viewfinder and TFT-screen both do have 48 /color /image pixels. Still, it's best EVF I've seen so far. Generally, I liked the camera, but the price... I tested Lumix G1 with both lenses it has (14-45 and 45-200) together with Pentax K-m double lens kit. G1 with 2 lenses costs ~990EUR here , K-m double lens kit is available at 500EUR and generally it does every trick that G1 knows (except LiveView that I still consider useless crap). Pentax has better high ISO performance, more real resolution (detail solving ability) and better handling (at least). Also, while Pentax DA L 50-200 is surprisingly capable lens, Lumix G 45-200 results are rather soft. Re: rechargeable batteries - any wisdom?
General chemistry is the same, but there's a LOT of variation possible within that general chemistry. All NiMH indicates is that the chemistry uses Nickel Oxyhydride as the Anode and some Metal Hydroxide at the cathode instead of Cadmium (NiCd's use Cadmium). Quite a number of Metal Hydroxides may be used, as well as differing salt bridges, differing concentrations, etc. Specific chemistry varies between manufacturers and capacities. Re: rechargeable batteries - any wisdom?
Note I typo'd, that should be 'some Metal Hydride at the Cathode' and 'a number of Metal Hydrides may be used'. Oops. Metal Hydroxides are something entirely different from Metal Hydrides. -Adam On Mon, Dec 22, 2008 at 2:07 PM, Adam Maas a...@mawz.ca wrote: General chemistry is the same, but there's a LOT of variation possible within that general chemistry. All NiMH indicates is that the chemistry uses Nickel Oxyhydride as the Anode and some Metal Hydroxide at the cathode instead of Cadmium (NiCd's use Cadmium). Re: testing the G1 ...
About the EVF - unfortunately no, it is NOT true 1.44Mpix. The viewfinder and TFT-screen both do have 48 /color /image pixels. Still, it's best EVF I've seen so far. Your comments seem contrary to all the literature written thus far about the G1. I haven't used the 14-45 lens very much, but what I have seen from it demonstrates excellent sharpness and contrast, good imaging qualities. I don't have the 45-200 so have no opinion about that one. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: rechargeable batteries - any wisdom?
All,. JC is correct. The chemistry is the same on all of the NiMH. The different in this hybrid type -- accroding to Sanyo's paper), is the material that they use for cathode. This supposes to reduce the decomposition which causes self-discharge. I have been using Eneloop for the last 18 monts in my DL. This has been the biggest improvement for my DSLR usage. Previously, when I grab my DL, I will have to put a new set of batteries in, and get a set from trickle charge. Now, I can just leave one set in the camera, and one extra set in my bag.
