Re: OT: GPS and geotagging images - Columbus V900
Hello again I would like to explain the simplicity of geo-tagging with Columbus V900. In a simple application called Time Album for Columbus 1.6.1 you import your JPEG's and the GPS tracking file (from the Columbus V900), which has the exptension CSV. After having made sure the time is adjusted correctly (camera/recorded sattelite time) you make (export) a .MMZ or .NMEA file. These files are meant for showing you journey in Google Maps. Before doing this you get the option to copy and save your image files in annother file (archive) called GPSed. The files in the GPSed file are now tagged with Longitude, Latitude and Altitude. This is a quite easy way to geo-tag your images. But still, it would be very simple and easy if all this was done in real-time in the camera, during the actual shooting :-) This will of course eventually be a feature in new cameras in a few years (nikon allready made a Coolpix PS that does this. More will follow - or we'll get a plug-in option for GPS tracking and geo-tagging devices. I believe Nikon alreay made one of these too. Regards Jens -- Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. On Jun 27, 2009 07:34 Jens p...@planfoto.dk wrote: I have now recieved my Columbus V900 GPS trakcer. Great little thing. http://www.blog-shmog.com/2009/01/04/columbus-v900-an-in-depth-review The software that comes with it actually CAN geotag the images, quite easily. (the info can be seen, if you click on file info in Photoshop. Only problem is, that the clock in the camera must be set to satelite time, meaning you need to set the camera clock to the same time as the clock on the internet - which you get from you computer. The software does - however allow you to transform you images to annother recording time, so your GPS track will correspond with your image files. I can recommend using this to anyone who want to know where the pictures where taken. Especially since this tagging device for images is the only on available, that comes with a memory card (Micro SD) - so can can store millions of Waypoints - maybe fro a journey that last a long time. It also has a battery saving mode (spy mode) that allows the thing to track for 30 days without charging the battery. The thiong comes with a lot of software - to set the clock - to edit EXIF data (NICE) and to show your journey on Google maps - including showing your photographs along the way. A I work as a planning photographer I find it very nice to be able to make a slide show on a map. And I can geotag my images for the benefit of other picture users/customers. By the way: I tag all my images, for archiving purposes, in Fotostation 6.0 Regards Jens -- Treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Hello list I was recently recommended, by some og you great guys, buying af Pentax 300mm F4 lens. I decided the cost was too high (considering how litle use this lens would get). But the Sigma cannot compete at all with neither the M* 4/300mm or the FA* 2.8 80-200mm. But I wanted auto focus and 300mm or more. RE: New lens - 300mm or 400mm - Sigma 135-400mm APO
Hi Jens I had the 135-400 for a while and was quite dissappointed with it, I went back to using the 300/4 APO with 1.4 EX TC and 70-200/2.8. Apparently the new 120-400 HSM is much better, but after seeing samples from one being sold for £400 on Ebay, I resigned myself to sticking with DA*300/4 amd Tamron 1.4 TC I'd love to find a Sigma 400/5.6 APO at a reasonable cost though to get the full benefit of SR, however recently I'xe come to the conclusion thet there's no substitute for fast shutter speeds when shooting wildlife and sports. I decided the cost was too high (considering how litle use this lens would get). So, I got a used Sigma 135-400mm APO lens. I have made som test shots, an I must say I'm not thrilled. Not very sharp, but still much better than my old Tokina 500mm mirror lens. But the Sigma cannot compete at all with neither the M* 4/300mm or the FA* 2.8 80-200mm. PESO / GESO Bees
There I was taking pictures of the setup for a local music festival, Togfest at Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes, when someone mentioned that there were some beekeepers on site. I poked my nose round the corner and took some pictures from a respectful distance and one of the beekeepers came and explained that they were rescuing a hive that had got out of hand in someone's garden. He then said that they would welcome some photos for training purposes and would I mind getting suited up and getting in amongst them. What an opportunity! Even when he said that he couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't get stung (I didn't) I thought it was an opportunity too good to miss. Re: PESO / GESO Bees
On 27/6/09, Chris Mitchell, discombobulated, unleashed: There I was taking pictures of the setup for a local music festival, Togfest at Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes, when someone mentioned that there were some beekeepers on site. Well done Chris! It's a bit unnerving the first time eh! Done bees twice in my career - no problems and the shots are always worth it. Good job there mate. BTW, good opportunity to bring out my favourite bee joke - you'll either laugh heartily or look puzzled. * ** Two beekeepers are chatting. One says to the other, ' So how many bees do you have then?' The second beekeeper answers, 'Oh about ten thousand'. The first says, 'Ten thousand, eh? Right. And so how many hives do you have?' The second answers, ' Ten hives'. The first says, 'Ten? Hmmm, ten thousand bees, ten hives. Hmmm.' He nods approvingly. The second beekeeper asks, 'So how many bees do you have?' The first says, 'Me? Oh, I've got about a million.' The second beekeeper looks surprised. 'A million! Holy cow, how many hives do you have?' The first answers 'Oh just the one hive'. The second is astonished. 'A million bees and only one hive???' The first pauses and thinks, realising the gravity of the situation. Along the trail I found this perfect Obelix-style menhir which is not marked on the map and appears to have been deliberately hidden in this grove, either by the Christians who pushed it half over, or by the farmer not wanting the heritage authorities to know about it. Re: PESO / GESO Bees
Hi Chris: Very interesting record of the moment! Fun to see since I'm just not up on the latest buzz about bees ;-). Cheers, Christine - Original Message - From: Chris Mitchell chris.mitch...@which.net To: PDML@pdml.net Sent: Saturday, June 27, 2009 4:09 AM Subject: PESO / GESO Bees There I was taking pictures of the setup for a local music festival, Togfest at Bradwell Abbey in Milton Keynes, when someone mentioned that there were some beekeepers on site. Here's the PESO - click on the symbol to the left of the green bar at the top for the full GESO.
