Of course, it is not cut and dry, and of course it would

on the systems put in place and making sure that the

non-discriminatory in nature, but wow, the suffering that it
 could potentially prevent.

This is the most stupid idea I've ever heard anyone on this list seriously
advocate in all the years I've been participating. It's on the intellectual
level of a 12 year old.

You really need to read up on this history of this sort of thing before you
put your fingers on the keyboard. And while you're reading up on it, also
read up on the philosophy of liberalism (start with David Hume) to
understand why nobody has the right to do this sort of thing to others,
whatever 'systems' are put in place.

St. Louis county (surrounding, but not including, the city of St.
Louis) has, or at least had, blue laws which restricted the
sale of alcohol on Sundays. From the time the bars closed at
1 or 2 AM until noon, I couldn't buy any, which is ridiculous
because all the people who care are in church and couldn't
see me buying it anyway. Maybe that's the reason for the
blue law. It would have been impossible for them to keep
tabs on us drunks if we could just do whatever the hell we
wanted while they were singing some damn depressing hymn.
But I can't blame that on the Baptists. St. Louis is
 predominantly Catholic. Go figure.

That's unusual - normally it's the Catholics who have all the fun. The
protestants are the miserable ones.

I use an SLA battery pack with my 540 at times that I made, but it is simply
a 6V substitute pack that connects to the battery compartment, not an HV

quicker (at least to start with, unlike AA's it doesn't really get longer

NiMH C cells are fairly easy to come by; in Oz JarCar sell them, not sure
anywhere else, but any electronics stockist should have them. The ones I
have seen are 4500MAh.

The other alternative is the AA-C cell adapters, but of course this limits
you to the capacity of AA batteries; though they are then cheaper and more
universal.

Has any one found a K-x, new, with out a kit lens. I have looked at
Henrys, Visteck and McBains and they all sell it for $699 with the
18-55 kit.

I'm shooting my nephews wedding in July and i have talked to them
about what they want. They are looking for minimul flash, and as much
natural light as possible. I'm now toying with the idea of getting the
K-x to use in any building and reception hall shots. I'm very
impressed with the high ISO shots form Bruce, Larry and Adam, that i
have seen so far.
I was planning on getting some of those umbrella adaptors that go on
light stands and a radio trigger for this event, from link-delight,
but i may just get them anyway to have. Its not a lot of money for
them.

Actually, MO has statewide blue laws until 9am on Sundays, but allows
local governments to add to those restrictions. It's St. Louis county
specifically that extends them until noon. While it's normally not a
big deal it becomes frustrating when the family is coming over for an
early afternoon cook-out and there's no beer in the fridge.

On the whole, though, MO's liquor laws are among the most liberal in
US. Don't get me started on the Pennsylvania Liquor Control

about what they want. They are looking for minimul flash, and as much
natural light as possible. I'm now toying with the idea of getting the
K-x to use in any building and reception hall shots. I'm very
impressed with the high ISO shots form Bruce, Larry and Adam, that i

I was planning on getting some of those umbrella adaptors that go on

What do i loose with the K-x, vrs the K10D, is there only 1 thumb

I don't think the K-x comes without a kit lens.

I recently posted comparisons between the K-x and my K20, most of them
apply to the K10 as well.

There are some advantages to the K-x layout, with all of the buttons
on the right.

You lose:
focus point indication
weather sealing
second thumbwheel
Softer skin over the body
A lot of size and weight (on the camera not the photographer, sorry)
One shutter press bracketing.
LCD size

The UI is very good for the limited number of buttons. I might put the
functions of the buttons in a different order, but they aren't too
tough to get used to.

I don't know how the sensors compare at low ISO, but over K10 I'm
sure that you'll be blown away by the usability of the high ISO.

For shooting a wedding the video could be very handy. It is
surprisingly high quality.

The camera does take some learning to get the most out of, so make
sure you have some time to practice with it. Even so, it took me
longer to come up to speed with the K20 from the K100 than it did with
the K-x.

I've been happy with my radio adapters from link-delight, though the
range is somewhat short, they're definitely worth the money.

impressed with the high ISO shots form Bruce, Larry and Adam, that i

I was planning on getting some of those umbrella adaptors that go on

G'day all,

I, along with what seemed like most of Perth's population, rose early
on a muggy grey Sunday morning to see the Queen Mary 2 come in to
Fremantle for a 1 day stop to stock up on provisions :

Well, I'll be the first one to say it. Queen Mary has a nice butt

I thought that image deserved a stern reply.

Re: GESO - Runde at wintertime

2010-03-15 Thread Tim Øsleby
Thanks Ann.

CA is chromatic aberration, a generic term for color artefacts that
usually shows up in high contrast situations. It is hard to see it at
this resolution, so it isn't really relevant.
It was just a techie way of telling who the person is.

Four picks and some text from a winter journey to Runde.
BWT: I have a complaint to make about Jostein. His silhouette creates
 a lot of CA.

I don't know what CA means (except Canada or Califronia) but I like that
 shot a lot :-)
