Testing SD cards

seem to be on the SD card, but when I try to recover them, they are corrupted.

Is there good (mac or linux) software for testing SD cards?

Re: Comparison images K7, 645D

2010-06-19 Thread Dario Bonazza
According to a friend of mine who's done the comparison, those 645 lenses
tested so far on his K20D (75/2.8, 75/2.8LS, 120/4 macro and one or two more
focal lengths I don't remember) surpass any comparable 35mm or APS lens
about both resolution and presence (texture reproduction and 3D effect).
He's not a 645 shooter (in fact he owns no 645 body), but he's put together
a nice 645 lens outfit after having seen the results on digital APS. Now
he's starting thinking of the 645D...

  I find this quite interesting.

Yes, the colours are a bit saturated, and the
 background a
bit murky... but I think its weaknesses are also
 its
  strengths here.

For me, it has a feeling of transitioning from an
  accentuated almost hyper-real foreground, into
 what could be
an impressionistic painting in the background.
 But
it's not exactly a juxtaposition either... the
 successive
layers blend and enhance the feel.  It holds my
attention and draws me into the scene.

Personally, I really like this one.

Has it changed much since you took this?  Looks
 like a
  nice place to visit.

Yes! I had a spring shot taken several years prior I was happy with. When we
arrived at this location I hadn't much hope for a successful image due to the
late hour, but made this effort 'in case.' We spend the next AM in the canyon
and then moved on to Monument Valley.
When I saw the results, not having any experience with PS at that time, I stuck
the 3-image film strip away and forgot about it.

There are a few other pictures there as well, showing some
of the intermediate stages.  I'll be adding a few more after
tomorrow when the cooktop is connected and the refrigerator
and dishwasher are installed.  After that we'll still have
to finish off by adding tile, and repainting the walls, but
at least we'll have a kitchen (and dishwasher!) again.

As a lark, I've been looking through realty listings around the US.
I've come to the conclusion that most people are either color blind or
have nervous systems far less sensitive than mine. I mean, a blood red

Re: OT - Kitchen remodel

2010-06-19 Thread John Francis

In our house, I'm the cook for most things - my wife is the
baker, so she gets responsibility for the cakes and pastry.

Basically if it involves following a recipe scrupulously,
it's best that I not be involved. But if it's a matter of
cooking by instinct I seem to do a better job.

It sounds kind of odd that both cards would go sour at the same time -
how old are they?
I format my cards in-camera before use every time after moving images
to my computer.
Do you have the K20D and the K-x set to the same file/folder naming converntion?
Have you tried connecting a USB cable directly to the camera to get the images?

Hard to say. A good lead/acid-charger does constant voltage, current

battery might get overloaded by a bigger battery.

No I haven't. This is not the same card that I lost data from the other day,

Unfortunately I don't have the money to go upgrading to sandisk SD cards right

Re: peso real or photoshop?

2010-06-19 Thread paul stenquist
Good point, Phil. I can't do that in photoshop. At least not without a lot more
effort than I'm willing to expend. If I do a radial blur on the wheels. I'll
get a radial blur on the brakes.

This is an interesting car. It belongs to the tech editor of Mopar Action
magazine. It's a '69 Valiant that does rather well in road racing. It's street
driven but has a very potent small block Chrysler engine -- about 6.8 liters
displacement I believe. I was just on hand to shoot, so I didn't get a lot of
details, but it appeared to have an oxygen sensor in each header pipe. It has
massive sway bars and a lot of damping. It was running at the front of its heat
here. Unfortunately, it developed some kind of lower end problem and didn't run
again. Fortunately, that freed me to go home:-).

Cornering pics would have been next.

Gengerman is a nice road course near the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in
South Haven. Their unsanctioned events, of which today's was one, are kind of
loosey Goosey affairs. Run what you brung is probably th best description.
They do run some SCCA national events as well, but then the SCCA guys take over.

In any case, a couple of cars I liked. I think this is a kit car. A Schwartz?
In any case, it's billed as a GTR type car and reportedly has 1000
horsepower. Some of you almost certainly know more about this than I. Cornering
flat here, but the driver wasn't pushing it very hard.

This is a late model Challenger remade to look like an early Barracuda. It has
benefited from some suspension work and has big-buck rubber at the corners.
6.1-liter late model hemi with the RT8 package. I believe it was third fastest
overall in the morning heats.

$130 less than I paid in February from Amazon.

I know. Even in Canada, Land of the Ripped Off, the damned thing has come
down some 30% from when I bought.

I might not be such an early adaptor to the next camera.

(Who the hell am I fooling. The bastards in Japan know they have a Profit
Sucker here.)
