Jack, As presented, I think the tone scale looks too compressed. It has a look that verges on conspicuous HDR. Not overly conspicuous, but imo firmly in the realm of taste for tonemapping effects. The yellows pops very nicely, but the greens look very grayish and murky on my screen. It's a nice composition. Was your initial reason for rejection the tricky exposure? Testing SD cards
Last week, I lost some files due to what I thought was user error. They still seem to be on the SD card, but when I try to recover them, they are corrupted. Today, I was using another SD card, and when I went to read the files off it, a lot of them seem to be corrupted or damaged. Is there good (mac or linux) software for testing SD cards? I like the idea, URH background is a bit busy imho and the shadow on the right overlapping the shadow of the head takes away quite a bit. Like I said, like the idea, though. If you plan to re-shoot you may want to encourage more aggressive/dynamic skating movements, too. According to a friend of mine who's done the comparison, those 645 lenses tested so far on his K20D (75/2.8, 75/2.8LS, 120/4 macro and one or two more focal lengths I don't remember) surpass any comparable 35mm or APS lens about both resolution and presence (texture reproduction and 3D effect). He's not a 645 shooter (in fact he owns no 645 body), but he's put together a nice 645 lens outfit after having seen the results on digital APS. Now he's starting thinking of the 645D... Yes! I had a spring shot taken several years prior I was happy with. When we arrived at this location I hadn't much hope for a successful image due to the late hour, but made this effort 'in case.' We spend the next AM in the canyon and then moved on to Monument Valley. The FA 33-55 and FA 35/3.5 have a real reputation in the alt lens world as the wides to go to for use on a Zoerk or Mirex T/S adapter (turns Pentax ro mamiya 645 lenses into 35mm Tilt/Shift lenses). In our house, I'm the cook for most things - my wife is the baker, so she gets responsibility for the cakes and pastry. Basically if it involves following a recipe scrupulously, it's best that I not be involved. But if it's a matter of cooking by instinct I seem to do a better job. Larry, I have a 16gb Transcend and 2 - 8gb Patriot cards that I swap back and forth all the time between the K20D and th K-x. I format them in camera and normally use the built in card reader on my HP laptop or a Gateway desktop. I have been doing this at a high frequency without nary a hiccup. It looks real to me as the motion of the wheels is fast enough to blurr out the spokes and give a view of the hubs and brakes behind them. Good point, Phil. I can't do that in photoshop. At least not without a lot more effort than I'm willing to expend. If I do a radial blur on the wheels. I'll get a radial blur on the brakes. This is an interesting car. It belongs to the tech editor of Mopar Action magazine. It's a '69 Valiant that does rather well in road racing. It's street driven but has a very potent small block Chrysler engine -- about 6.8 liters displacement I believe. I was just on hand to shoot, so I didn't get a lot of details, but it appeared to have an oxygen sensor in each header pipe. It has massive sway bars and a lot of damping. It was running at the front of its heat here. Unfortunately, it developed some kind of lower end problem and didn't run again. Fortunately, that freed me to go home:-). Gengerman is a nice road course near the eastern shore of Lake Michigan in South Haven. Their unsanctioned events, of which today's was one, are kind of loosey Goosey affairs. Run what you brung is probably th best description. They do run some SCCA national events as well, but then the SCCA guys take over. In any case, a couple of cars I liked. I think this is a kit car. A Schwartz? In any case, it's billed as a GTR type car and reportedly has 1000 horsepower.Some of you almost certainly know more about this than I.
