Terrific job, Brian. As Ann said, great pairings and layout. Little
touches like your short ruled line between image and caption; simple,
clean design. I like your image index at the back, eg rather than
cluttering up the images with extra text.

Of course there's the images. Well, I'd have to shoot 24x7 for the next

 Interesting work.

That reminds me that I once fitted a Konica Hexanon 55 mm macro lens to
K mount.  The interesting thing was that I didn't need to modify
anything.  For some reason, the lens attached directly to a no-name
K-mount extension tube, probably because of slack manufacturing
tolerances on the tube.  The lens wouldn't mount directly to the Pentax
 body.

No infinity focus, of course, but that's not all that important with a
 macro lens.  Here's a photo:

 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1370864/Hexanon-Pentax.jpg

I don't use this combination much because my 90 mm Tamron macro is more
 convenient .

A shot taken with Frank.  f2, perhaps slightly overexposed.
 http://brendemuehl.net/images/frank/berry.jpg

 The center.
 http://brendemuehl.net/images/frank/center.jpg

This was pretty simple because the Minolta mount on this lens was in 2
pieces.  Behind the camera mount is another support ring.
Both the ring and the K mount had a rib which had to be milled off.
Even so, the ring does need to be another 1mm thinner for infinity focus.

Minolta used 8 screws on the lens mount.  4 attached the mount to the
support ring and 4 went through the support ring to the lens body.
I left out the holes for the 4 into the ring and just used the 4 longer
ones that went through to the lens body.  That's enough for this weight
of lens.  It might be easier to have a pro with a mill do the actual
work on the mount and ring.  Perhaps I will hire an engineer to finish
 it.

Also,  put a hold for the mounting screw near the red dot.  That allowed
me to attach to the lens body close to the center of the aperture scale
 for near-proper alignment.

Still, it works for close stuff.

 Sincerely,

 Collin Brendemuehl

Re: OT - Hard Disk Oddity

2011-07-06 Thread Mark Cassino
I had 5 of these 500 gb My Books drives and they generally worked well. One
drive failed and took it to a local shop and they pulled the drive and put it
in
a generic enclosure - worked fine with no problems. The generic enclosure
didn't
cost more than $25 IIRC. So - you might want to just back up the flaky drive
and
have it put in a new enclosure. If it still has problems then the drive itself
is flaky and you may as well just get rid of it or relegate it to just data
transfers or something. Otherwise, like mine, it may work fine.

I have since upgraded to a couple of 3TB drives and 2 of the 500 GB drives to
have two copies of everything - and I drop off one set of thethe drives at a
local computer shop that has their own data center every few months to archive
everything remotely.

The remaining My Books are not getting much use - they join the 200 gb drives
etc that are big enough to be useful to too small to be valuable...

Good luck- --

 G'day all

For several months one of my external hard drives has been acting a bit
 'flaky'.

The drive is permanently attached to the PC but when the computer boots
there is no sign of the drive in Windows Explorer.  However, after about
10-15 minutes, the autoplay window magically appears and the operating
system reads the drive, which then becomes available.  The drive
continues to work properly thereafter - until the next boot when the
 process starts over again.

My question is whether the hard disk itself is on the way to hard disk
hell or whether the drive controller is likely to be the culprit.  Or
could it be a faulty USB cable? Would it be worth extracting the drive
from its case and try installing it in a new case? The drive is about
three and a half years old.

Note that I'm not relying on this drive as a primary back up any more,
but it is convenient if it keeps working.  And I'm just curious as to
why the drive would be behaving like this.

Makes the good point about read the fine print before you sign up, or post
anything.

The short form is that if you post something to google+, they get to do what
they want with it, without paying you.

I haven't looked into the google+ photo sharing at any depth yet.  I've got an

user
interface for sorting friends into groups (or circles) so that you can select

The problem isn't unrestricted immigration, it's unrestricted
