Great set, and I hope there's more. Being escorted by two elegant swains must have opened you up to an exploratory mood. As to the trip, Darrel and I flew into Heathrow and stayed in London for 2 days, then took the boat to Greenwich to visit with Bob W. over the weekend. He is a well informed and wonderfully fun tour guide, and at one point I told him he could probably do this for a living. He's that good. We tramped around Greenwich and Deptford and had a blast--taking pictures all the way. Cotty and Alma joined us for dinner on Saturday night and as all of you can well imagine, Cotty's wonderful sense of humor and charm kept us all in good humor and laughter. It was a great night, and I shan't ever forget it! From Greenwich, Darrel and I caught the train to Cambridge and tramped around the colleges, did the tour of King's College Chapel, and just walked and walked, and drank ale, and relaxed. Then it was by bus to Milton Keynes to visit with Chris Mitchell and his wife Karin. What a fantastic time we had visiting and seeing the sights there. The Grand Juncture Canal was fantastic and the four of us visited some sites from the UK's National Trust program, which is just fantastic. Very impressive. Darrel and I had such a blast visiting with the Mitchells. Chris sang, and he's fantastic. Then the four of us, Darrel I and the Mitchells drove to Newcastle area to meet up with Bob W., Mike Wilson, his wife Cath, and their daughter Katy. The area here is absolutely beautiful, and Mike Wilson planned an itinerary that was just fantastic. I think we'd all agree the high point was when we crossed the dunes and found ourselves on Holy Island. Wow! Wait till you see everyone's pictures from here, and the other sites visited. They're really fun! From Newcastle we all said good-by, and Darrel I headed back south to catch a flight out of Heathrow. We traveled for 12 days, every two days on the move. As I've already said to our UK PDMLers, Darrel and I found kindness, generosity, humor, and friendship in abundance, and we're very grateful. We send xxoo across the pond. When in the Greenwich area, Bob W. took us to the Deptford St. Market. Here's a little gallery from that leg of the trip. Bob will post his gallery. His gallery is much better, but here's a little taste of the market--wonderfully multicultural! http://www.caguila.com/deptfordpdml Cheers, Christine -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Lightroom 4, reimport from backups?
It is and it isn't. With successive versions of Lightroom, I've found its ability to recognize duplicates has become looser ... possibly because Adobe received feedback that it was excluding new files that had the same filename or other metadata as existing files in the catalog had, I suspect. They probably loosened up the criteria as having a couple of duplicates is less annoying than not being able to understand why it won't bring the right files in. If your original image file repository is structured in any of the standard by date organizations that Lightroom will do for you, you can take the backup directory and copy or move it into a similar directory structure by importing it into a NEW catalog. Then you can copy the remains of your original directory structure into it on a folder by folder basis, starting at the leaf nodes. Once you get there. set the catalog to look at the root of that directory structure and then use the Synchronize command. Unfortunately, even with don't import suspected duplicates checked, it seems to want to import duplicates, not just the files that have been accidentally deleted from the main tree. When I took Godfrey's lightroom class, he specifically said that Lightroom was really good at recognizing duplicates, even if the name had changed, but it's completely failing to do so in this case. I did my first snow crystals with stacked lenses (on a spotmatic, no less, since I mistakenly thought that an electronic camera would not do well in sustained cold.) I did quite few experiments with stacked lenses, usually with extension, in the late 90's for magnifications of 4x to 10x. A good 50mm reverse mounted on the A* 200mm macro worked well for 4x. For 2x in the field these days my preferred solution is a macro lens and 2x teleconverter - keeps infinity focus and can be quite sharp. Re: Lightroom 4, reimport from backups?
The weird thing was that if files were in the active directory tree, then lightroom would find the duplicates and do just fine not importing them. However, with them in the backup_by_date_imported directory tree, it just imports everything. I know that there are people who claim that you don't need to sort the raw files into meaningful directories, and that's just fine until you make a disk of jpegs for someone who wants to find something without using lightroom. On Jul 19, 2012, at 12:57 PM, Godfrey DiGiorgi wrote: It is and it isn't. Why are you reimporting the files? If you only deleted the files, and the pictures are still in your catalog, just re-point them to the backup files. My plan was to point the import menu at the backup files that lightroom makes, sorted into backup by date.
