Re: No Pentax K mount for new Tamron 70-200/2.8 lens
That reminds me. Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone have experience with the Tokina ATX Pro 80-200 f/2.8? I've seen one selling locally and a bit of googling shows some people moaning about fringing, but I'd trust PDMLers a bit more than random internet pixel-peepers. Weird.
The K-5II is announced and it seems that the price of K-5 cameras in stock goes up. Re: Best FF Pentax Rumour Story EVER!!!!!!
True, but at a price, $800 more or ~$1500 with a the kit zoom. All such decisions are a trade off. I think Pentax has to announce a 24x36mm sensor camera pretty soon, and it's price will have to be in the $2000 range. I suspect they may have planning to do that with a 24mp sensor but for about 3K. Then they found out about the Nikon and decided to retool the idea, (less embarising to do that before making your new camera public, rather than after, MZ-D anyone). As I said, I expect an announcement just in time to miss the Christmas buying season, after all they've done that before. Of course it might not be a FF camera it might be a 24mp APS-C camera, but either way the megapixel race is still on. I'm surprised that they didn't actually announce a 645Dn with higher frame rate or more pixels or both. Right now they sit between the low end MF backs and Canon and Nikons FF offerings, with fewer new lenses on offer, being squeezed by both sides. And with the cost of their new DFA glass for 645D being in the low stratosphere well there seems to be an issue. But that hasn't been a given with some full-frame cameras, and price/value considerations enter into it as well. Pentax is so strong in APS-C in terms of both product and the lens lineup that taking their eye off the ball could be a mistake. The lens lineup for a Pentax full frame would be lacking without a half dozen or so new lens introductions. Re: Best FF Pentax Rumour Story EVER!!!!!!
I doubt that a lack of a competitive 24 x 36 camera will lead to immediate defections over the holiday buying season, although it might cost Pentax some sales to impressionable newbies. The Nikon certainly wouldn't interest me if it couldn't equal the low-light performance of the K-5. If the K-5 II matches the noise performance of the K-5 with much better autofocus, it will get some excellent reviews, and it will sell. Their are already some preliminary whispers of praise for the filter-free version. Pentaxians have fixated on frame dimension because they don't have a big one. I suspect that much of the rest of the world doesn't care. It's nice to have AF, but the lens a little bit less sharp than the manual focus version (I own both); on the plus side, it focuses closer. Still, when I shoot with the K10D I grab the AF one as I only need to concentrate on keeping it stable. As a man, I can't multi-task. As I move toward mirrorless (true mirrorless, not the K-01) I'll probably sell the AF Tokina 400m, so let me know if you're interested. As for the Pentax 560mm, it looks like the front section (not the hood) might slide backwards. It would be cool if it did. The suggestion that couples have their friends document their weddings with their camera phones is little different than those who put a bunch of disposable cameras on the tables at the reception and collected them to document the reception. Sometimes to augment the hired photographer, sometimes in place of one. No idea is new, it's only a variation of an old one. Re: PESO - Dog Boy
Full marks for an excellent portrait, Frank. The light and detail in his eyes are terrific. Repellant paint work though. :-) On Thu, Sep 13, 2012 at 9:58 PM, frank theriault wrote: > Not sure about his painted face: > > http://knarfdummyblog.blogspot.ca/2012/09/dog-boy.html > > Hope you enjoy. I e-mailed him yesterday to congratulate him on retiring and having done a great job ay Pentax...and my e-mail bounced cos the address no longer exists! Does anyone know if e-mails changed after the Ricoh acquisition? I'd been in contact with him after that happened last year at his usual Pentax address so I didn't think so. Anyway, I agree that Ned was the best thing about Pentax USA and I'm sad to see him go. Ned id gone... Long live Ned! --M. -- Sent from my Android phone with K-9 Mail.
