Re: Lightroom 4.2 available
For the record, my Pentium i5 with 8GB RAM and Win7 (configured to have no swap file whatsoever) is perfectly fine for K-5's or Ricoh GXR's RAW files. It usually takes about 5 to 7 seconds to load the develop module in LR (starting LR 4.1) and then it just flows - no silent swearing on my part. The graphic card is also some fanless variety, probably ATI as well... On 10/6/2012 12:36 AM, AlunFoto - Jostein Øksne wrote: I edit my 645D raw files on a computer from 2008. Btw, Adobe has been pestered in forums for several months over an issue with hierarchical keywords. I joined the choir too, and now we've got our wishes granted. I'm very glad Adobe listened to the users and fixed it. Re: Photo management software for kids
Kris, if you have LightRoom, you could establish a separate catalog for that and somehow I think that you underestimate your kids abilities. They could learn basic LR functions probably faster than I did (won't dare say "you did" :-) ). When Galia started (though she was older) I instructed her to use the flag status to denote those that she did not like. It worked like a charm. On 10/8/2012 4:10 PM, Krisjanis Linkevics wrote: So my kids are taking pictures. Loads of them, in fact. I would like them to be able to do their own photo management but that might be way harder than it sounds. In any case I would like them to learn the basics as soon as possible. Do any of you have any suggestions for some easy to use (not necessarily dumb) software that would let them download pictures and movies from the cameras, maybe assign some themes or something, delete the bad ones and maybe even upload some back to the camera? They are 2.5 and 6 years old and they don't read English yet. My ideal wishlist: * customizable language (if it doesn't have Latvian I should be able to create a language file); * automatic downloading of pictures/movies (deleting everything from the camera); * soft-delete function so I can later go through the ones they think are bad and maybe do some corrections; * assigning keywords or even key-pictures; * easy to use controls for cropping and other adjustments, keeping the original intact; * uploading back to camera (software should know which pictures it has already downloaded so we don't run into duplicates); * maybe face recognition and automated keywording according to that ( must recognize cats :) ). kris -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Venice 5
It is nice that your Venice shots go beyond the obvious gondolas and bridges. (Even though I think Venetian gondolas and bridges are wonderful subjects to study!) I like this shot except for one minor detail: the shiny bit in the center of the image caught my eye and continued to distract me from looking at the scene as a whole. Specifically the O in the Coferasta label on the box she is working with. Could you selectively decrease the exposure about 1.0 or 1.5 EV in that small area? stan On Oct 8, 2012, at 1:39 PM, SV Hovland wrote: > This is from a market early in the morning. > > https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=2D01AE85E70E90E2!74861&authkey=!AHwUzEdzxpQa7LI > > Stig Vidar Hovland > -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

It seems Ansel is making the rounds this year. An exhibit of his from the Turtle Bay Exploration Park collection is on display at the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh, WI. http://www.thepaine.org/ We saw it earlier this summer, but I'd gladly go again if anyone's interested. -p On 10/8/2012 3:14 PM, Bob W wrote: From: PDML [mailto:pdml-boun...@pdml.net] On Behalf Of Mark Roberts Bob W wrote: The subject line speaks for itself, but I will explain. Some magnificent stuff at the one I saw today (as would be expected) and it included tome early works from Adams's teen years that were quite pictorialist. I normally look at this kind of exhibit from a strictly aesthetic standpoint but in this case I often found myself longing for technical details: One early print really looked like a paper negative Calotype. I can't imagine why it would be in 1915, but I don't know what it *was*. it could easily be the same exhibition - they often tour them around the world. That is still the recommended procedure as far as I know. I bought a kit off of Amazon that had everything in it together (sensor cleaning kit), but it was kind of a waste if you already have a good blower. Worked well for me. Re: OT Happy Thanksgiving........
Yes. We use turkey gravy to make poutine. Sometimes we mix stuffing in with the cheese curds. Okay, I just made that up but damn if that doesn't sound amazing! Surely someone else has done it. It's just too perfect not to have already been done. Too bad it wouldn't be vegan; I'll never be able to try it. And in all seriousness, agree with Tim: I think our Thanksgiving culinary traditions are about the same as yours. Turkey with trimmings, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie smothered in fake whipped cream.
