I like that a lot - has a nice 'gritty' feel. The bike balances the

K-01 shutter sound? (was Re: FYI - Fiscal Cliff for K-01 prices)

Does anyone have a K-01 and a K-5 and can compare the shutter sound? Is
the K-01 quiet?

WTB or trade

2012-11-14 Thread Boris Liberman

Hi!

I'm looking for Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.5 (not the modern OS HSM version, but
the older one). I'm willing either to buy it or to trade it for my DA*
16-50/2.8. In the case of trade some money would have to come along with
the Sigma lens.

Thanks.

Re: The moth - I desperately want to kick somebody in the nuts

2012-11-14 Thread Miserere
Yeah, someone *should* care...but I don't expect anybody does.

You could always put the lens on eBay with full disclosure at, say,
65% of expected price for a mothless one, and see if anyone bites.
You'd be surprised.

Never used the Sigma 20mm. Did own the 24mm version for a while, which
I used for concert shooting. I sold it to Igor on this list, who I
believe used it for baby shooting :-)

Looking forward to your comparison pics. I think you should call your

FS Thursday

2012-11-14 Thread David Mann
Sorry I'm a bit early for Friday but I've been procrastinating for a few weeks
and I need to free up some cash to help my budget for a race I'm doing in
January. I've been spending way too much on equipment and my poor old piggy
bank has gone to the abattoir.

I've put the list of gear on a set of web pages with photos. It's breaking my
heart to sell this stuff but I just don't use it enough to justify keeping it
and I know it'll go to good homes here.

http://www.multi.net.nz/lens-sale/
(Despite the URL it's not all lenses)

I'm not very sure of my prices as some of this stuff doesn't come up for sale
often; if you think I'm way out then make me an offer, but higher offers will
likely get priority.

I take Paypal.

I will send by International Economy Courier which is tracked, but I don't put
much faith in the tracking as the last parcel I sent was only tracked as far as
US Customs. The freight prices quoted won't cover the full cost but I don't
want to scare you away :)

In addition to that list I have two more Pentax 35mm lenses which I'm going to
have professionally cleaned before offering. If you're interested in them let
me know:
SMCP 135mm f/2.5
FA*400mm f/5.6

I also have a kit of Pentax 6x7 stuff so let me know if you're looking for
anything. I haven't listed it yet because I'm considering selling it locally
as some items would be expensive to freight overseas.

Cheers,
Dave

Great shot, Larry!

We actually used to keep a bottle of Old Crow around the club, but it

Re: PESO - In the Dungeon

2012-11-14 Thread knarftheria...@gmail.com
The reason I shot downward is that I quite consciously wanted to get her phone,
pen and gloves in the photo along with the newspaper.

Other than the fact that she's a very attractive young lady, this was a bike
messenger shot.

She's standing by, reading the paper to kill time. We no longer use two-way
radios (the Motorola "bricks" were ubiquitous) and pagers; everything is
dispatched through smartphones these days. Pens and ( in this cooler weather)
gloves are part of our equipment. Mailrooms are where we hang out when it gets
cold (see the mail bins in the background?).

A slice of messenger life...

Oh yeah. The other reason I took the photo from that angle: I was standing and
she was sitting.

;-)

Thanks for the comment! And thanks to all who looked!

Cheers,
frank

Let me know if anyone is interested: Pentax K10D body, cheapie version of the

Thank you, Bruce!

That's a particularly curious horse. Most times, when I head over to
that field, he immediately comes toward me and inevitably walks into my
frame when I'm trying to shoot the other horses who don't give a damn. I
bet I have 20 shots of several other horses standing in that field with
this horse's ear encroaching into the frame. And when I try to walk away
to compose another shot, it follows me.

I'm pretty sure the horse's name is Buzzkill.

Radio Shack pulled out of Canada and the stores got sold to a group
called The Source. They don't carry as much DIY/repair stuff anymore
and only have one rebranded generic cleaner product.

I got my Caig supply at a musical equipment chain here, Long and
McQuade. I originally bought it to service my Mackie audio mixer.

Re: FYI - Fiscal Cliff for K-01 prices

Costco offers a K-30 "bundle" with a "BONUS" WG-1 Waterproof Camera.

Also an Optio WG-2 bundle.

Both on-line, haven't seen it in the local store.

From: Igor Roshchin

Oops.. Sorry, - it looks like it's an old news...
.. and a bunch of stores have had it at about those prices for
about 2 weeks (including Amazon, Walmart [black body only],
Pentaxwebstore.com, and even Bestbuy).

BTW, for those who are concerned about brick-and-mortar stores selling
Pentax equipment, - Bestbuy came close: it's a brick-and-mortar store
that sells Pentax equipment online (only).
But it's probably a good sign anyway...

Prices for K-01 are slashed at B&H and Adorama:

Sure thing. What would be the best test cases for a clean lens against one that

Re: GESO: Partial Eclipse

In case anyone wants to start planning ahead, the Great American Solar
Eclipse is due 21 Aug 2017. The path of totality will begin somewhere in
the Pacific Ocean west of Portland Oregon and sweep across the U.S.
ending somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, south-east of Charleston, SC.

From: Bob Sullivan

Dave, Your photos of the eclipse reminded me of one I saw as a child
of 8 or 10. The crescent shaped highlights of light thru the trees
was the same here. Regards, Bob S.

Some of the photos featured on the news sites were of a huge

I've been using Craig Laboratory cleaners for 30 years. Every connector I mate
is first cleaned with their RED contact cleaner formula, then lubed with their
Blue contact preservative formula (or vice versa). Came with coarse plastic

connectors in or on my cameras, computers, and automobiles. Except for
