Re: PESO - Second Chance

2014-06-05 Thread Paul Stenquist
I fell when shooting the dream cruise last August. Busted up the hood, but the
lens was still working fine, so I didn’t think much of it and replaced the
hood. Used it quite a bit after that with no problems. Then just this past
March, it kind of just fell apart. The zoom jammed and the focus motor quit.
Sent it to CRIS, and they said it had obviously taken a hit on the front of the
lens that had broken an internal part of the barrel, which knocked out the
motor. I suspect whatever piece finally broke had been damaged in the fall but
hung on for a while. Tested the repaired lens today and it’s perfect in terms
of flat field. Focus dial in took just a -1 adjustment, and it locks on fast.
Very pleased. The bill was around $280. Not bad, IMO.

Re: We're on the Road

2014-06-05 Thread Christine Aguila
Hi Ann: The Twain house today was fantastic, though no interior photography
was allowed. Bummer. We bought some postcards showing the interior, but I'm a
little disappointed with the quality of the photography for the interior rooms.

The Harriet Beecher Stowe house is next door to Twain's and that was a lovely
tour as well. Same problem there--no indoor photography allowed.

Had such a great day seeing Twain's house. I feel so inspired, and it's even a
sweeter feeling knowing the last two years are truly behind me.

Rather disappointing weekend for me, photographically. I didn't have
time to do much shooting at all. In fact, I only took 108 shots in
total. So... just rather routing nature photos here. Still nice to get
out and about on the trails.

Basic details, it’s at my house in Felton (Santa Cruz mountains). Nominal
timespan is 2-2. Live music off and on 5:30-10:00. Potluck dinner 7-ish.
Bring a small, inexpensive wrapped gift for the gift toss.

I use the expedient of other windows on my screen as horizontal or vertical
lines that I can check lines on the photo with.

The left side of the window halfway up the tower seems to be pretty vertical.

The roof of the building in front visually slopes to the right.

As others have commented, it's a great scene but the cars are
distracting. I don't think the cropped image works because it loses
too much of the platform (as you mentioned yourself).

I think this is one of those scenes where a perfect photo probably

Re: PESO: Track Lighting

2014-06-05 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
That is the Somerville, New Jersey Station, Ann, which has recently
been renovated quite a bit. I think perhaps those lamps were
installed by New Jersey Transit, and they may use them at other newly
renovated stations.

The big news is that this trip to The City was the first "one seat"
trip for us. usually, we have to change at Newark, because the
Raritan Valley line is Diesel, and only electric trains can use the
tunnel under the Hudson. RV acquired several dual powered
locomotives, and now is capable of going all the way to Penn Station
in The City, but that station does not have enough platform space to
accommodate our trains during peak travel hours. In this instance, we
took a train after 9:00 AM, so it was allowed to take us into
Manhattan. What a difference it makes, because when we change trains
at Newark, we usually have to board a train that already has standing
room only, and it is a hot, crowded, bumpy and unpleasant end to the
journey.

I previously posted a version of the banana peel image as a seperate
PESO, captioned "Apeeling." I guess you missed it.

Most of the images in that folder are straight out of the camera, and
not meant to public viewing. The images in Sardi's show that I ate in
front of Samuel L Jackson's image, only to run into him, two rows in
front of us, at "Raisin in the Sun." His wife is one of the stars of
the show, and has been nominated for a Tony.

I don't really understand what you mean by "going off the screen."
Does that mean they are too large for your screen and you can't see
the entire image, or does it mean they are disappearing?

 Thanks, Igor.

This image is greatly troubling to me. As you may know, I am a fan of
 classic Jersey diners.

This building was the Whitehouse Diner, quite a popular establishment
in its day. Legend has it that, decades ago, the owner had an
argument with a patron, lost his temper, grabbed a cleaver and chased
everyone out of what had been a packed diner. He locked it up, and
never returned, and it has been in a state of decay ever since.

Its condition has gotten a lot worse over the severe weather of this
past winter, This is my original blog post about this structure:

 http://djmatyola.com/lbdinerdan/the-abandoned-whitehouse-diner

A few years back, the sign was in good enough shape that I used it as
the symbol for my dine blog:

 http://djmatyola.com/lbdinerdan/exploring-diners

Thanks for looking and commenting, Igor.
