Re: Favorite June Pug

2015-06-06 Thread Mark C
Several outstanding images in this month's PUG but Lake Superior really
stands out - remarkable photo!

I enjoy visiting the U.P. in late June - the days are very long given
the northern latitude and the blackfly season is usually winding down or
maybe even over.

As for the cold weather - we visited Skanee in June, 2001 and had temps
over 100F. The local paper said that L'Anse (the nearest actual town)
hit 105F and was hotter than Phoenix, AZ that particular day. But then
we visited Grand Marais in July, 2011 and nights dropped into the 30's
with a steady 40mph wind off the lake. Had to fire up the furnace in the
shack... er housekeeping cabin... we were staying it. Fun times up there.

My personal favorites are Ken Waller's view of a lighthouse in the

Great theme, and great submissions!

I'm the odd one out here. I really don't like Summer at all, never have. I
spent a lot of my childhood in Scotland (southern Highlands), where at least
in the Summer the weather was foul - or wonderful, depending on your point
of view! Your description makes me all the more interested in visiting at
that time of year.

A wonderfully atmospheric picture, but I don't understand the culture of
young ladies covering themselves with body art/tattoos. I must be getting
old.

I'm fairly certain that Ken is referring to cropping the photo and not
the photographer.

Here we go again

Where did this myth about dangerous Australia wildlife start.

Last time I looked we don't have bears, panthers, lions, tigers,
wolves, cougars, leopards or Hippopotamuses (HippopotamI??).

Yes we have some venomous snakes (hardly unique there), venomous
spiders (ditto), crocodiles (ditto), box jellyfish (ditto), sharks
(ditto).

About the only dangerous thing in the Australian bush is the chance of
being bulldozed over by a galloping wombat or being pissed on my a
koala that's sick of being cuddled.

The bit about being ruled by a classy lady in the UK is, sadly, true.
