magic pixie dust
I hosted a photo party here yesterday. There were four people that I was photographing, and another four people that availed themselves of various areas in my yard for their own stuff. Today, I'm going through and processing the selections from those photos, putting the final polish on them etc. I was going through one set and from one photo to another the next one just popped. There was nothing concrete I could say was different other than it just looked nicer. Then I noticed the focal length on display in lightroom, 77mm. The previous photos had been taken with my 28-75/2.8, which is a damn nice lens, and the best lens I have for photographing at the dojo. But, damn, while I joke about the 77 being sprinkled with magic pixie dust, and I can't describe the difference, I can certainly see it. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com (postbox on min4est) -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT - PESO - Toward the City
Thanks, Dave. And thanks to everyone else who commented and looked. Days like that make me feel lucky that I can commute by bike along such a scenic route (although the lakeside portion of my commute is about one out of the ten miles). It's nice coming home at night because the Lake is the end of the commute. The black lake with the lights from neighbouring towns (Burlington and Oakville) shining across the water is amazing. And last full moon with a clear sky made the water shimmer silver. Gorgeous! Anyway, thanks again. Re: Toward the City
I have a clip-on rear fender that's of some limited use; it stops the water/mud stripe up my back. Doesn't keep my shoes or pants dry though. Fortunately I have a dry set of clothes at the office for such occasions. If I need to stay dry on rainy days I just don't take my bike. Thanks for the comment! PESO - The Ring of Bells
We visited Taunton last month because the Somerset County Archive is there, and it had some 17th century letters that my wife (a historian) was interested in. Otherwise Taunton doesn't have much to make it a destination. The Ring of Bells, though, is a superb pub: nice people, great atmosphere, excellent food, and outstanding beer. Re: SMC-K 24mm f3.5
Welcome to the wonderful world of SMC Pentax K series lenses. Not only are they optically superb, they are mechanically excellent as well. Now you know why I have collected and use nearly the complete set of primes... jco On 6/13/2015 11:12 PM, Mark C wrote: I bought a copy of this lens from B&H a few days ago, and it arrived yesterday afternoon. I really have to hand it to B&H - this copy is absolutely perfect / mint / like new condition. I bought it mostly to use reverse mounted for macro work - something that will get me more magnification than the DFA 50mm macro using the same extension. I made a few test shots today and I can only say I am *really* impressed with this lens. I fully expected to see some degree of chromatic aberration ( and was hoping it would be correctable) - but really, there is none. None. This may not hold up for all subjects, but in the tests I ran today it was amazing. I am really feeling good in that the DFA 50mm macro has proven to be exceptional, and the K 24 f3.5 looks like it will be every bit as good. I tried a lot of lenses recently for high magnification work - M 50mm f4 macro, M 50mm f1.7, A 28mm f2.8, F 28mm f2.8, and XR Rikenon 28mm f2.8 and a few enlarger lenses (admittedly no first rate enlarger lenses). The F 28mm f2.8 was the only one that delivered acceptable results, but this K24 is clearly a cut above. Pentax should revive some the optical formulas in these cult classic lenses - add the latest coatings, AF and LTD lens build quality - call them the CC Limited Series. I also should comment that I am very positively impressed with B&H's return process. I never had occasion to use their return service before, but they quickly processed the return on the AF 160 ringflash that did not work out. I replaced the flash with an AF360FGZ original model - so I will continue to use the flash setup that I have used for the last 10 years or so. The cost of the K 24 f3.5 consumed the rest of the refund, with a little left over. Mark --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
