Thanks Rick. There are big building south of the pier, hotels primarily, including Lowes where I always used to stay. But the beach houses north of the pier are of modest size. Re: PESO: Beside the Platte River
I do already have a good strong tripod & doesn't it came with a trunk of its own (?), so hey! ... I'm halfway there already. It better be very strong - I went thru 2 'HD' Gitzos til I found one sturdy enough to be almost vibration free. The 600 FA does in fact come with a very nice luggage type trunk which is almost useless in the field. I have a Kinesis back pack which will hold the lens with camera body attached & several pouches & is a really nice way to transport the combo in the field. You're easily looking at another $1K to 1.5K for the head tripod & backpack. Never mind the cost of the Sherpa! Frank, Darren, John and Ann, Thank you all very much for your comments. To tell you the truth, this was not a spontaneous shot. Thank you, Frank. And thanks everyone who looked or commented. Regarding that ripped top, to allay fears that it represents violence of any kind: it was purposefully torn by the model's boyfriend to create a peek-a-boo garment for posing like this. Oh my! Lovely story. Thanks for sharing Ann. I can never tell when I bought something I wear. These days, I can not even tell if the thing on me at that moment was originally mine or was one of my sons'! And my wife swears she wore that particular shirt first before we got married; that is before stone age. Thank you Ann, Igor, Marco, Jack, Toine, Godfrey, Frank, Bob, and anyone who looked. Glad you you enjoyed the humour in that! :) And Jack ... > Was that your only choice, Bruce? Of course we shot a few variations, including having the hand reach up from below to cover the model's crotch. But my assistant Judi (my regular makeup and hair artist) was hesitant to actually touch Kristina, and the resulting shadow spoils the look. Even when covering Kristina's breast, Judi was delicately hovering her hand. When I suggested to the model that that wasn't getting the right look she firmly took Judi's hand and planted it on her boob. Then I got the perfect shot. :) Judi later remarked, "My right hand says, <<< this is the closest thing to perfection that I have ever felt. >>>" On Mon, Nov 2, 2015 at 12:21 PM, Jack Daviswrote: > Was that your only choice, Bruce? > > J > > > - Original Message - > From: "Bruce Walker" > To: "Pentax Discuss Mailing List" > Sent: Monday, November 2, 2015 6:21:54 AM > Subject: PESO ~ Facebook-safe > > I have decided that from now on I will only take Facebook-safe shots > to avoid problems. Thank you very much, Dan! Thank you too, Ken, P.J., and Mark! Sorry you aren't partial to the pasties, but they were done to add a more authentic Cabaret ala 1930's Germany look. I admit they don't fit as snugly as pasties are supposed to do. The designer, Eva, had not done then before and didn't get the angle of the cone quite right. She was making these, hot-melt glue gun in hand, right at the last minute while I was shooting the first set of images. Re: PESO -- Dinosaurs II
I prefer the new version. The sky/clouds of the first one wasn't such a bother to me but I found there wasn't enough tonal contrast between machine and background. It needed to jump put from the trees, and that wasn't happening in version 1.0. Version 1.1 is a huge improvement in tonality and to my eyes I can distinguish between dinosaur and background much better now. I really like this photo! Very interesting subject - I mean who doesn't like old machines? I like the feeling that the old beast has been put out to pasture, quite literally. The texture is palpable. And I love the way it frames the billboard. I'm not sure what it means, but I'm sure some symbolism could be found in there somewhere. LOL! All in all this is a keeper, and much improved over the original IMHO. Cheers, frank On November 7, 2015 1:16:27 AM EST, "P.J. The 600 FA does in fact come with a very nice luggage type trunk which is almost useless in the field. I have a Kinesis back pack which will hold the lens with camera body attached & several pouches & is a really nice way to transport the combo in the field. You're getting a lot better images out of your 50-500 than I've been able to get from mine. At the 500mm end, mine's just NOT very sharp. It's really disappointing because 500mm is the only focal length I need it for. From 300mm on down I have good, fast glass. I occasionally take a look at Sigma's 500mm f/4.5 prime, but it just depresses me, because I don't have $5000 to drop on a lens. I doubt I EVER will. Nor, the nearly $6000 I'd need for a SMC Pentax-FA* 600mm F4 ED [IF], assuming I could even find one for sale. Pentax used to make an 800mm f/4 and a 600mm f/4 for the 6x7 system. Has anyone here ever had a chance to try either of those out with the Pentax "Adapter K for 6X7 Lens"? If so, how was the image quality? -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for. Re: PESO ~ A portrait of Maggie
She has an absolutely striking face. As usual with you, the photo is technically flawless. I'm looking at it on my phone, and when I "enlarge" it, effectively cropping it just below her left hand, I find it a much more compelling image. It focuses my attention on her face. I find everything below her hand (most specifically her breast, nipples and the tattoo, to be a distraction. I'm sure those things are important elements of the photo to you; they must be, because they appear in so many of your photos - LOL - however in this case I wonder if they detract from a ~very~ strong portrait.
