Re: Strange thing
Correct me if I am wrong. If an email is sent to a list (such as the PDML), & you use "Reply List" or "Reply All", then you reply goes individually to all members of the list as well as the list mailbox. If you use "Reply", then your reply goes only to the list mailbox. Listers would then down load at their leisure. This explains why some posts are received double if "Reply List" is used - once from the list mailbox & once directly from the poster. I think my problem is overzealous filtering either by my ISP or the Avast Firewall. Re: Mac external drive trouble
I've had my share of enclosure failures but all of them by the low-priced enclosures. The OWC "Elite Pro" enclosures run about $70-85 apiece (see MacSales.com for details) and are very very reliable. Not one has ever failed me; between my brother and I, we've been using them for fifteen-eighteen years. My current ones for 3.5" drives support three hardware protocols in their latest revisions (eSATA, FW800, and USB3). They're very fast enclosures too. USB3 seems the most cost effective speed for the money at the present; I have two Thunderbolt SSD drives that are faster still but they're still double the price for the capacity, at least. Meanwhile, drives get full and/or flakey every few years of use. I've swapped and upgraded drives periodically; each of my enclosures has likely hosted up to three drives by now: no signs of failure yet. Bare drives are pretty cheap these days for 2, 3, or 4 TB. Re: Mac external drive trouble
Since it's a backup only, and presuming that you haven't needed to retrieve anything from it and don't need to now, I'd disconnect it, get another drive, and create a new Time Machine backup. Then wipe this drive, connect it up, and have it run as a second Time Machine backup. If it fails completely, you're done. Otherwise, you have a second drive to use as you see fit. I've had this happen from time to time. Hard drives are cheap these days: use until they fail, then move on to the next one. There's no software I've ever seen that can fix a broken volume file structure without risking the contents of the drive anyway. I have two 1T notebook class drives set up just this way for my Time Machine backup … I created a new one in December, wiped and recreated a new one on the second drive in May. I only need 1T backup drives because I only run Time Machine on my main 1T system drive, and don't have it back up my Lightroom catalog folders. Those are backed up by a separate system onto working and archive drives whenever I touch them, along with the original image files. Re: Mac external drive trouble
That looks like a failing drive that needs to be replaced. Since it is a time machine drive I don't know what the correct procedure for copying and moving the data over would be. I would imagine that some of it is certainly corrupt if it is failing a file system check. Is this your only backup? You should be making backups to one drive and mirroring it to another in the event that your backup media has failed when you need it.
