Re: OT - Hurricane in Texas
I stopped at the Walmart in Clarksville around midnight Sunday/Monday. Realized I didn't have enough AA batteries for the AA adapters for both of my BG6 battery grips. As it turned out, I didn't need to use them, but I had the AA batteries. On 8/28/2017 18:12, Igor PDML-StR wrote: Thank you! It would've been nice to have a pleasant company there. (We ended up watching it from McGregor Park Riverwalk.) We hadn't known that we'd be going that way either, until just a day prior to the eclipse. We were set for Nebraska, but the weather forecast got worsened in the last 2-4 days. So, Friday night (or Saturday morning?) I made a reservation for a hotel on the way to Carbondale, IL, and then Sunday early morning, I've pushed it even farther east, toward Clarksville, TN, for which the forecast was the most promising. In any case, most likely we wouldn't have had time to use your hospitality: On the way there, we stayed overnight in Jackson (which was more comfortable for the 1st day of travel), from which Clarksville is just about 2-2.5 hours of driving. We left within an hour after the totality, and our plan was to drive back in one day (into the night). But due to the delays on the road, we stopped in Texarkana, and finished our travel next morning. Igor Gonz Mon, 28 Aug 2017 14:57:07 -0700 wrote: I didn't know you had traveled to Clarksville! Re: Instax gratification
I have an Instax I bought before going to Lisbon a couple years back. It's a fun doodad I trot out now and again for quick shots to give away. There appears to be a thriving community of people doing very good work with them. I don't count myself among that number. On 8/28/17 8:17 PM, Igor PDML-StR wrote: I know that some enthusiasts-photographers (including some PDMLers) like photographing with a film camera. In some way it is similar to listening to vinyl LPs, and doing that through the lamp amplifiers, etc... I am surprised that "Instax" from Fujifilm receives considerable number of buyers. It's a sort of a "Polaroid" of 20-teens: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014CGOHFQ I think that the main reason for that is the instant gratification in an easily form that people get from this camera. (Many users of digital cameras, or phones these days, never print any photos, but just look at them on the back screen of the camera or on the phone.) I suspect that some people might do it for nostalgic reasons (cf. Polaroid). And, I am guessing, some younger users might be finding it "hip". I find this rather interesting that in the digital era, some people opt for non-digital. (I think it is still a small "niche".)
