Re: IS in Pentax *istD (was Re: canon vs pentax)
This is not a new technology, similar systems were used by camcorder manufacturers for a while now. A large CCD uses just a portion of its surface area at a time to capture video image. This system does not produce high quality still image and that is why it is not used in still cameras. It is satisfactory for consumer camcorders, professional models like Canon XL-1 use genuine optical image stabilizers like the EOS system. Best regards, Albert
RE: reagan cortege
Shawn, I have to say that is the most pathetic attempt at trolling that I've ever seen. You called a fellow list member a bigot without any shred of evidence or any reason. And what makes you think that he is a right-wing bigot? Should I call you a Stalinist or a Nazi because of your overblown rhetoric. The photos presented here are of documentary nature, they are not here to spread the agenda. People have strong feelings both anti and pro-Reagan, there is no reason to stir up a pot here. I suggest that if you have a chip on your shoulder and in need of a good venting there are many places to do it, this is not it however. Please do it somewhere else, stop wasting our time and bandwidth. Albert I only disagree when its pertinent to do so, if you have to set up a kill file in order to maintain the sanctity of your delusions, then by all means do so you right wing bigot
Optio 555 discontinued
Maybe Pentax 666, a Devilishly good 6 Megapixel compact! Thanks, Albert Seems like the Optio 555 is discontinued. Any replacement news ? Antti-Pekka
Black FA 28-105 f3.2-4.5 at BH
Hello, I remember a thread from several weeks ago regarding FA 28-105 f/3.2 in black finish. Looks like BH will be stoking an imported version some time soon. Price is still unavailable at this time, though I anticipate that it will not be too much higher than current price this lens in silver finish. Re: Spots on my Shots
Leon, Have you ever heard of Speckgrabber from Kinetronics? It's a little plastic stick with an adhesive tip that lifts dust from mirrors, screens, CCD's and other surfaces without leaving a mark or residue. Give it a try. Using blower bulb is the worst thing you can do, I tried removing specks off the focusing screen of my ZX-5N and ended up making things worse. That little experiment cost me $70 as I had to send the camera to professional cleaning service. And never, ever use compressed air or vacuum on the inside of SLR, you'll risk damaging the mirror assembly. The link to Speckgrabber is: http://www.kinetronics.com/cgi-local/SoftCart.100.exe/online-store/scstore/speckgrabber_product.html?L+scstore+dvqv7944ff476a47+1083903364 Hope this helps, Best regards, Albert My *ist D has become a pain in the bum!I am continually having to clean the innards of it due to little black spots appearing all over the shots.I have placed a new focussing screen in it to no avail, checked and recked my lenses(and cleaned them)to no avail. My blower has collapsed from over use.Am now thinking of using a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dust. Can anybody please offer some sensible advice as to some other methods.Otherwise it is back to the shop I suppose. Waiting in breathless anticipation!!!
RE: Black FA 28-105 f3.2-4.5 at BH
Alan, BH carried black 28-105 shortly after the lens was introduced in US. Following the usual Pentax color-matching goofiness only silver 28-105 were legit US items, black lenses were imported gray market items. I had a silver lens in my BH wish list and today a black model just appeared along side it. Re: Pentax lowers *ist D price
I do not know is Pentax will have something new in DSLR stable, at this point I'll be happy to see Pentax prosumer digicam like Panasonic FZ10 or Coolpix 5700. I also realize that I will have to invest in new zoom lenses if I choose to get *istD or its successor. My lone Pentax zoom is 28-70 f/4, while it goes great with my ZX-5N, I do not believe that it will be a great companion to a DSLR. So I am looking at a pretty sizeable initial investment and I don't want to part with my superb Pentax primes to ease the cost of transition from film to digital. I am sorely tempted by FZ10 with its Leica glass and IS system. What bugs me is the dreaded purple fringing and inability to use filters. Difficult choice indeed, so much great photo gear, so little time and money. Best regards, Albert Sounds suspiciously close to the price someone mentioned Adorama as having, that they would not honor. Got a little ahead of themselves with the advertising do you suppose? graywolf http://graywolfphoto.com You might as well accept people as they are, you are not going to be able to change them anyway.
Pentax lowers *ist D price
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0401/04013002pentaxistcut.asp GOLDEN, Colorado (January 30, 2004).Dreams can come true. PENTAX U.S.A., Inc. has reduced the retail price of the*ist D digital SLR by $300. The legendary camera manufacturer also is offering consumers an additional $200 cash back when combined with the purchase of the PENTAX 16-45mm DA digital lens. These special savings are in effect February 1, 2004 through June 30, 2004. In addition, PENTAX has extended previously announced cash back offers of up to $50 to consumers on the purchase of select digital and film cameras I feel a need to give my credit cards a workout. Re: I want a FA 28-105mm f/3.2-4.5 AL IF...BUT NOT IN SILVER!
Good question. I've been wondering about that one for a while. I've see black 28-105 on BH website shortly after they began selling the lens. They sold out quickly and never appeared again. Maybe writing to BH or Adorama customer service to inquire about the possibility of ordering the lens directly from foreign Pentax distributor will help. Best regards, Albert
