Hi. Today I detected a strange behavior with my K10D bought in Dec.2007 and with firmware version 1.20: the date and time are, always 2051/11/12 (yy/mm/dd) and 02:43. Also tried to see if it was hardware related: changed battery (original and generic), removed grip, removed lens, etc, always the same thing. I confirmed that this happened somewhere between May, 26th and June, 2nd, two consecutive weekends. Between these two dates I don't remember if I used the camera or not. I don't think it is related to the firmware version 1.20 as I have many photos taken with this version and the date is correct (including a wedding with more than 600 photos). Thanks, Paul. The bridge shots (in 6x7 24x65mm folder) were made using 35mm Velvia film in a Pentax 6x7 MkI camera. What you see is the intact frame as I shot it. The only image that I cropped a bit is the vertical one (04) because the horizon was not levelled. But I tend not to crop the images (the great majority of the photos I make pp preserve the original frame). But with digital I'm cropping more than I expected as it is easier. Dpreview's D200 jpeg overall conclusion: same problem different attitude?
Hi. Just look at Dpreview D200 overall conclusion regarding soft jpegs (third paragraph): Quote: What can make a difference however is how what's captured is developed. Which brings us to the D200's default sharpening (for JPEGs), there's a difference between avoiding sharpening artifacts and not resolving detail captured by the sensor because of weak processing / sharpening. A first time user of the D200 may well feel it is 'soft' simply because of this decision made to have low default sharpening. Turn the sharpening up or better still shoot RAW and introduce a subtle unsharp mask into your workflow and D200 images are as sharp and crisp as you could expect. Unquote. Don't you think that Phill Askey is clearly more benevolent with the D200 than with K10D? I do. Thanks, Jan. Your information is quite valuable for me. One thing, however, that is a pity is the fact that the P-4000 only supports 2Gb SD cards. Could be a good reason to save RAW+JPG :-) Note: At Photokina they showed the P5000 that has DNG support. Frankfurt: help finding second-hand photo shops

New K10D brochure
Hello. Don't if this is old news but a new (at least for me) K10D brochure is available in the US Pentax site: http://www.pentaximaging.com/products/product_details/digital_camera--*i st_DL/reqID--8793673/subsection--digital_slr See under Download Literature. The French sample photos published in several Pentax site were taken by Katsuhiro Ichikawa. It is a beautiful brochure. FS - All lenses plus one body
Hi, all. I’m a long time Pentax user (since 1984), lurking PDML since 1997 (very few posts, I know), AOHC member since 1998 (thanks, Dario) and I’m still shooting film (Pentax 35mm, 645, 6x7 and 67II). Over the years I have been buying great 35mm lenses but some of them are redundant in my “warehouse” and are seldom used. Now, I need to prepare myself for the big step: new APS-C flagship and/or 645D. That is the reason of this sale. I tried to be accurate while evaluating the gear condition and used the KEH grading system. If you are interested please contact me off the list. I can send photos of the lenses/camera if requested. I’ll only accept Paypal. The prices do not include postage or insurance. I live in Portugal (EU). The remaining items will go to ebay. Thanking in advance. RE: 645 - 6x7
Are the 645 and 6x7 lenses interchangeable? eg: could I use my 105mm for the 6x7 on a 645? You need an adaptor to put 6x7 lenses onto the 645, and you lose lens automation. 645 lenses don't project a large enough image circle to cover 6x7, and I don't think the 645 flange to focal plane distance is long enough to allow a 645 lens to work on the 6x7 anyway. RE: 645 - 6x7
Hi, Kevin and all. Sorry for my previous post that was empty. 6x7 lenses used on a 645 body via the 645/6x7 adapter allows you to maintain the lens automation and open aperture metering in the following modes: - aperture priority - manual - TTL flash automation You loose these modes (because the 6x7/67 lenses lack the A setting): - program - shutter priority - aperture priority automation achieved when the aperture ring is in A (only 645 lenses has it) Hope this helps. RE: Photos of Pentax *ist Ds with 67 f/5.6 500mm and others
Hi Dave. I bought the Fotodiox (http://www.fotodiox.com) kit here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemitem=3860687820 With this kit you use 35mm film in a Pentax 6x7, 67 or 67II body. You make 18 pictures out of a 36 exp. 35mm film (you use the 220 film selector and pressure plate). That's the big advantage. If your intention is to make 24x66mm panoramic photos, you don't waste 120/220 film. With the kit you get also a panoramic viewfinder mask that disciplines the composition. You have a complete new approach to the subject with this mask, different than with simple lines (like the Z1P/PZ1P). And it is inexpensive (USD 98,00). Right now, Fotodiox is not selling this item on ebay but you can contact them via e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I bought a second 6x7 (very early Mk I, non-MLU) body just to have the kit permanently on. This is my Hasselblad... Hope this helps, Dave. RE: Photos of Pentax *ist Ds with 67 f/5.6 500mm and others
You don't rewind the film. There are two options: 1 - you can use an empty film cassette that receives the exposed film and at the end you cut the film (watch out for the last one or two photos). 2 - Or you don't use the cassette, only the interior and at the end you use a changing bag to rewind manually the film. I use this second option as I don't want the film to pass 4 times through the 35mm cassette tissue. This way the film only passes 2 times through the tissue, the same as 35mm cameras, X-Pan and Mamiya 7 (great camera). For some this can be a disadvantage but, for my type of photography, it isn't. That is why I have a second 6x7 body for the X-Pan kit. *ist DS photos on-line, now (was Photos of Pentax *ist Ds with 67 f/5.6 500mm and others)
Hello. After my yesterday e-mail, Tim Sherburne kindly offered his web services to show the photos taken wuth the *ist DS. They are here: http://www.sherb.org/pedro/ The photos are just tests, nothing artistic. They are all original, only resized (no crops, no levels, no USM, nothing). The file names show the lens used and the correct 35mm focal length equivalent. Two of them were taken with the 67 500mm and the 1.7x AF adapter, a strange mix, giving 1275mm. The originals were taken in JPEG *** 6 Mp. Hope they are useful. Thanks once again, Tim. Pedro Oliveira Portugal
RE: Photos of Pentax *ist Ds with 67 f/5.6 500mm and others
Hello. I would like very much to see that picture, Rob. Please don't misunderstand me, I know that the current DSLR 6 Mp crop does an excellent job when compared to the 35mm film SLR (I also tested the *ist D in Nov. 2003 and took excellent photos with the FA* 85/1.4). But I'm deeply involved with medium format which gives me great pleasure. I recently bought a X-Pan panoramic kit for the Pentax 67. It is wonderful to take pictures like the pricey X-Pan with a 6x7 body and have them enlarged. All my medium format enlargements (only work with chromes, Velvia, Provia and Agfa RSXII) are made with my Epson 2450 and then printed in a Fuji Frontier, so I deal with the digital for several years now. You can see some pictures in the AOHC gallery (http://www.aohc.it/aohcgallery/index.htm).
