Help needed with screw-mount auto lenses
I have two Suntar Auto screw-mount lenses.* When I used them on my Spotmatic F, I had trouble unscrewing them to remove them. (They worked fine on the Chinon camera they were bought for, but the Chinon is long gone.) It seems as though the little diaphragm actuator pin (on the back of the lens) does not retract into the lens quite as much as it should. Therefore, the pin hits something inside the Spotmatic, which stops the lens from unscrewing. I think it may be hitting the little metal lever at the top left of the housing (about the 11 o'clock position.) I used the lenses a few times, and the problem occured probably 80% of the time. When it happens, all I can do is fiddle with the lens auto lever, and hold the camera upside down and shake it until the pin retracts. It can take awhile and be very scary. Has anyone had a similar problem? Could I solve the problem by filing the actuator pin on the lens a little shorter. (I won't use these lenses again unless I can fix the problem, and I'm sure not going to mess with the Spotmatic mechanism.) Thank you. *One is a Suntar Auto 135mm, f:2.8. The other is a Suntar Auto Wide 35mm, f:2.8. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Spotmatic F
A big thank you to those who answered my question (below) about the SMC Takumar. In addition, you taught me a lot of other very interesting things about Spotmatics at the same time. Now here's a question I'm sure is pretty dumb (but I'm willing to admit ignorance if it helps me learn): QUESTION: Is the Pentax K1000 the same camera as the Spotmatic F, except for the lens mount not being a screw mount? Or are there other substantial differences? Thank you. Spotmatic F lens question
I hope someone can answer a question about my Spotmatic F. Is the SMC Takumar the correct lens for the Spotmatic F? And if so, is it normal to feel resistence when screwing the lens on? Here's why I'm asking: My Spotmatic F came with a SMC Takumar 55mm f 1.8 lens. I assume (perhaps wrongly) that it's the original lens. But when I screw it on, I meet resistence (back-pressure) just before the lens is completely screwed in. I apply a slight pressure and the lens screws in completely, and works fine. I also have a Super Takumar 55mm f1.8 that *didn't* come with the camera, but it actually connects more easily to the camera. No resistence, no back pressure. This seems to be because the two lenses are different on the back. The Super has only the little pin that actuates the diaphragm. Nothing else. The SMC also has the pin, but on the opposite side of the mount there is a long slot with a metal lever of some kind sticking up. I can't tell what the lever is supposed to do, but it is somehow connected to the f-stop ring, because when I turn the ring, the lever moves with it. I suppose this has to do with the stop-down metering. Thank you for your time. --Robert - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
