Re: New to the list
Greetings and welcome! You certainly live in a beautiful place. I've been there several times and was overwhelmed by the breathtaking scenery everywhere. My daughter lives in the Pacific NW, so I try to get up to BC whenever I go to visit. She keeps telling me I have to go to Whistler (one of her favorite places), but haven't have a chance as yet. Enjoy the list. Looking forward to seeing your photos in the PUG. Kathy L - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Re: For Dave and Buddy ...
This is so beautiful it made me cry. Thank you for posting these comforting words. It's so sad to lose a beloved pet. My condolences to Dave and his family on their loss of Buddy. I lost my cat, Gus, a couple of years ago at age 2 due to a congenital kidney problem. But then, along came Francis, an orange tabby just like Gus, who really needed a permanent home and found one with us. While he is not Gus, he really filled a void for us. Re: Scanner question
I've been using the HP ScanJet 5470 for a number of months now, and I really like the scans. It does a good job on slides and negatives 2400 x 2400, and for a relatively inexpensive scanner (less than $300), I think it does an awesome job. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Bummer! Anyone have any ideas what went wrong?
The images were very dark. Some of the slides were just black. I guess what I was referring to when I send they appeared "faint", was that on a couple of them I could see that the were photos of a white trillium. However, the white trillium certainly was not white. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Re: Bummer! Anyone have any ideas what went wrong?
I did use the 400 film first - then switched to Velvia. I have never used the manual ISO setting, but I also never checked the ISO setting after I changed to the Velvia. It never even occurred to me. It makes sense that that is what might have happened. I just put in a roll of 200 print film to see if that works, and the ISO setting does register as 200. When I originally changed from 400 to Velvia, it was a very damp and cold day. Maybe that made a difference as far as the camera setting staying at 400. Thanks so much for getting back to me. I will definitely check now each time I put new film in the camera. Kathy L. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions. Re: April PUG review from Cotty - better late than never?
Thanks, Cotty! I feel so honored to have you mention my photo in your "list." I always look forward to your comments on the PUG photos and learn a lot from them. When you mention one of my photos, it makes sloshing through the mud and hiking up and down steep hills carrying a tripod and camera gear (although this was not the case with my cactus shot) all worthwhile. It takes time to study and comment on the great photos that are posted each month, and I, for one, appreciate those who do take the time, as it is very helpful. I enjoyed your commode photo, especially the angle from which it was taken. The light was perfect, and I liked the contrast of the wood grain of the chair with the wood grain of the floor. I hope someone watered that plant, though. It looked pretty thirsty. One other thing I must mention again - you certainly have a way with the written word! Somehow, though, I just would never picture Cotty vacuuming the house! I'm quite impressed. Kathy L. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Metering accuracy of PZ-1-- has anyone heard of this?
What a fantastic red-winged blackbird shot! I love how you caught him as he was singing his "love song." I got a PZ-1p about a month or so ago, and so far I am amazed with what it can do (although I haven't had much time to spend taking photos since I got it and am still learning). I shot some of these beautiful birds last weekend, but unfortunately I only had a 70-300 zoom and couldn't get very close to them. Thank you for posting this beautiful shot. Re: Ansel Adams at 100
Thanks for the great info on this exhibit. I plan to go to Chicago this weekend to visit my daughter, and this is on our list of things to do. Several weeks ago we tried to get in, but the line was way too long and we didn't have time to wait at that time. Re: What are you planning on photographing this weekend?
Good luck on your whale shots. I tried to get some last spring in the Pacific Northwest. The seas were rough, and we had to literally hang onto the rails of the boat to stand up at times. I was so awestruck everytime that a whale surfaced I just watched and didn't even snap a photo. I did get some photos of the pod, but I missed all the good shots. Hope you get some good ones to put in the PUG. I'll be anxious to see them. Kathy - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Attention PZ1P Fans
I just got a "demo" PZ1P from Adorama - it looked as though it had never even been touched -- in any event, after hearing that B&H no longer carries them as a new item, I'm really glad I got it. So far I love it, although I've only had a chance to shoot a couple of rolls of film in less than satisfactory conditions, but they turned out well. I had never seen one "in person" since none of the stores around here carry much in the way of Pentax equipment - but I was not disappointed. I like the size of the camera and the location of the dials and buttons. I especially like being able to see the display of the settings in the viewfinder (which I had difficulty doing with my ZX-50). I found the camera to be easy to operate once I read through the manual. I wish I had gotten one a long time ago, but I'm glad I was able to get one at all. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Better Late Than Never - Feb PUG review from Cotty
Cotty, you made my day! Thank you so much for the kind and encouraging comments. I am trying very hard to become a really good photographer, because anything worth doing is worth doing well. Your comments really help. I may have said it before, but I think you take really wonderful photos, but you also have a very artistic, creative way with words. With those two traits combined, no doubt you will someday have a book published out there for all of us to purchase! Thanks again for taking the time to comment on our photos. Re: Winners (PDML 2001 Printer Challenge)
Thanks so much. I feel honored to be in third place on the printer challenge. Guess I forgot to mention that I took the photo with my Pentax ZX-50 using the Pentax 35-80 lens at aperture priority set at 11. As for the Phaser printer, it totally amazes me at times (it's my printer at work). The colors are spectacular, although I'm not much of an expert at the technical details of printers -- I just know what is pleasing to my eyes personally. I appreciate "greywolf's" taking the initiative to do this printer challenge, as the information is really helpful to all of us. Thanks again! Re: OT Work in progress
To my untrained eye (I'm no graphic designer), I much preferred the second one (smaller file). It seemed to show much more depth. Maybe that was because it was a closer shot. The pen looked much more real to me in that one. Which camera were you using, incidentally? - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Picture mounting and framing...
I really like the framing4yourself web site. Here's the link: http://framing4yourself.com/ I even took one of their one-day workshops (which they have throughout the country at various times of the year, and I really learned a lot). However, their site is also very informative. I use a Logan mat cutter, and it works great. Good luck! Kathy Leickly - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Photos of Newport, Oregon coast
What great photos! I was on the Oregon coast in September visiting my daughter, who lives in Portland. I totally missed this. It will be on the top of my list of places to see the next time I go there (in January). Your ZX-5 did a great job. I'll be using my ZX-50 when I go and hopefully it will get some shots as good as yours. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Scanners Again
Several days ago I purchased an HP Scanjet 5470c. It is apparently one of their new flatbed models and has a special adapter for slides and negatives that is different from others that I have seen. When I bought it I asked if I could return it if it didn't do a good job on the film and was told I could within 14 days. It is 2400 x 2400, 48 bits. I am amazed by the quality of the scans. I have printed out some of the slide and negative scans full page on 8-1/2 x 11 photo paper (on HP Inkjet 722c), and they came out really great. Actually, it far surpassed my expectations. It cost $299 at OfficeMax, and I definitely am going to keep it. (It also does a great job on photos and documents without the adapter.) - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. Re: Hamrick Vuescan WOW!
I downloaded Vuescan thinking that I would purchase it after a short trial. However, it would not recognize my scanner, a HP Scanjet 5470c on a USB. I have just upgraded my system to Windows XP and tried to follow the instructions on the Vuescan site, but nothing worked. I could not figure out how to contact Vuescan via email to find out if I am doing something wrong or whether it just won't work with my scanner and/or Windows XP. Does anyone have the same problem or have any suggestions? - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
