6x7 checkup

2002-04-27 Thread William Kane

Hey gang,

Just got my $78 6x7 in the mail. It looks really beat up, and may
not have been worth the price, but at least I have a parts camera. I'm
trying to figure out how to test out the shutter, and everything else.

Can anyone tell me how to tell if this is a MLU 6x7 or not? What am
I looking for?

Mirror is stuck in the half-way-up position. No battery (I'm gonna
go out to get one in a bit). Of course, no lens and no film and no
prism.

My first thoughts? WOW, THIS is an SLR that's PERFECTLY sized to my
hand. If this camera doesn't work, I'm defininitly going to wind up
with a 6x7, or possibly 67II that does work.

An MLU button
If it has MLU, it will be on the right side of the mirror box,
opposite the lens release. It is a small push switch.

The shutter was cocked and tripped with the battery out. No
biggie. Put a new PX28 (or equivalent) into the battery tray
(found on the bottom of the camera), then push the little button
on the front of the camera below the shutter button.

They are nice, aren't they.

William,

Thanks for your help. This is a non-MLU 6x7, so I guess Pentax
doesn't support it anymore.

I've looked through the camera a bit. Cycled the shutter a couple of
times without the batteries or film in the camera . . . now the shutter
doesn't want to seem to want to trip. Maybe it just needs batteries, or
maybe it really is a parts camera . . .

. . . at any rate, most things appear to be in order, except the knob
on the right side of the camera (from behind) is missing. I believe
that it is used to set the number of frames from 10 to 21 depending on
what film type you are using (right?).

Counter is also a bit odd. Appears that the screws are loose, as the
top rotates around and the arrow moves with it. I think I figured it
out that the arrow needs to point directly to the front of the camera.
It'll just be a matter of little screwdrivers to fix that.

Screen and mirror are clean. Well, screen is a bit dusty, and there
is a sticky bit of goo on it, but that looks like it'll come right off.

There is some engraving on the left side of the housing above the
flash sockets. Appears this camera was a rental unit.

Bill,

Sorry to hear about your parts camera. Doesn't sound like it will win
any beauty contests.

I just shot a wedding today entirely with my 67II. I have to agree
about fitting your hand. The 67II grips are even better than the 67.
You can really hold on to the camera well. Then when I picked up my
MZ-S, I noticed how it didn't fit my hand quite as well as the 67II.
Gotta love that format.
