Alin Flaider. Showed me around Bucarest. Lovely guy.

He is listed as one of those who helped with PUG submission process.

He is also listed on Boz's KMP web site as a contributor.

The last posting submission to PDML that I could find is dated 2005.

Dear All,

While discussing the 20th anniversary PUG, we discussed with Brian
that it would be great to invite as many "old-timers" as possible - to
participate in this PUG.

I know that some PDMLers maintain connection with some of the former
PDMLers via social media (or at least know how to contact them).

I suggest that everybody who has any way of contacting them, would do
that ASAP (via all available channels), - inviting them to submit
their photos to this 20th anniversary PUG.

Please use this link:
http://pug.komkon.org/general/20th-anniversary.html
with the invitation for the anniversary PUG.

---
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teaxWYRH9A4
---

And now, after the break (some nerds might know the hidden message in
this song), some personal thoughts about old-timers.

I am sure people here remember past PDMLers, but I would try to recall
at least a few... (just in case it would help someone).

Over the period of 20 years, there have been several PUGmeisters:
Brian Walters
Scott Loveless
Adelheid von Kirschten
Jostein Oksne
William Robb
Mark Cassino
Steve Graham
Doug Brewer

AFAIK, Scott, Adelheid, and Steve are not reading PDML.
I believe that Scott is reachable via e-mail and some social media
channels (Facebook? Twitter), - I haven't heard about Steve and
Adelheid for ages. Has anybody seen them recently?

There were a few more people who at different time contributed to the
maintenance of PUG:
Rob Studdert, Jeff Renner, Bong Manayon, Maney Gomez, Fred Wasti,
Robert Batten, Alin Flaider, Tom Van Veen, Sid Barras, Delano Mireles,
Flavio Minelli, Gary L. Murphy, Michael Bromm, Yves Caudano, Jan van
Wijk.

(Brian listed them here: http://pug.komkon.org/general/autosubmit.html )

I might be missing someone (my sincere apologies!), but from that
list, only Rob, Bong, and Jan seem to be participating in PDML and PUG.

I believe in the past year or two, I've seen some posts from Fred
Wasti on some forum (PF?) or in some social media, but I don't
remember where, and I couldn't find any "live" traces of him now.

I've already sent a personal e-mail to Boz Dimitrov on Saturday, but
haven't heard back, so, if someone can contact him as well, please do.
(A single unexpected e-mail can be easily lost in a flow of messages.)

Anybody else?

Cheers,

Igor

There are a few list members that I haven't seen posting to the list
recently. It might be good, if someone can contact them via other
channels, alerting them to the special PUG, - just in case they are

not reading the list at the moment.

Frank Theriault -- I remember that in August, Paul wrote that "Frank posts
frequently to facebook".

Christine has not posted to the list anything since early February.

Over the period of 20 years, there have been several PUGmeisters:

Adelheid von Kirschten
Jostein Oksne
William Robb
Mark Cassino
Steve Graham

AFAIK, Scott, Adelheid, and Steve are not reading PDML.
I believe that Scott is reachable via e-mail and some social media channels

There were a few more people who at different time contributed to the

Rob Studdert, Jeff Renner, Bong Manayon, Maney Gomez, Fred Wasti, Robert

(Brian listed them here: http://pug.komkon.org/general/autosubmit.html )

I might be missing someone (my sincere apologies!), but from that list, only
Rob, Bong, and Jan seem to be participating in PDML and PUG.

I believe in the past year or two, I've seen some posts from Fred Wasti on

couldn't find any "live" traces of him now.

I've already sent a personal e-mail to Boz Dimitrov on Saturday, but haven't

I might be missing someone (my sincere apologies!), but from that list,
only Rob, Bong, and Jan seem to be participating in PDML and PUG.

I believe in the past year or two, I've seen some posts from Fred Wasti
on some forum (PF?) or in some social media, but I don't remember where, and
I couldn't find any "live" traces of him now.

I've already sent a personal e-mail to Boz Dimitrov on Saturday, but
haven't heard back, so, if someone can contact him as well, please do. (A
single unexpected e-mail can be easily lost in a flow of messages.)

Anybody else?

Cheers,

Igor

Wijk.

Dear All,

While discussing the 20th anniversary PUG, we discussed with Brian that it would be great
to invite as many "old-timers" as possible - to participate in this PUG.

I know that some PDMLers maintain connection with some of the former PDMLers
via social media (or at least know how to contact them).

I suggest that everybody who has any way of contacting them, would do that ASAP
(via all available channels), - inviting them to submit their photos to this
20th anniversary PUG.

Please use this link:
http://pug.komkon.org/general/20th-anniversary.html
with the invitation for the anniversary PUG.

And now, after the break (some nerds might know the hidden message in this
song), some personal thoughts about old-timers.

I am sure people here remember past PDMLers, but I would try to recall at least
a few... (just in case it would help someone).

Over the period of 20 years, there have been several PUGmeisters:
Brian Walters
Scott Loveless
Adelheid von Kirschten
Jostein Oksne
William Robb
Mark Cassino
Steve Graham
Doug Brewer

AFAIK, Scott, Adelheid, and Steve are not reading PDML.
I believe that Scott is reachable via e-mail and some social media channels
(Facebook? Twitter), - I haven't heard about Steve and Adelheid for ages. Has
anybody seen them recently?

There were a few more people who at different time contributed to the
maintenance of PUG:
Rob Studdert, Jeff Renner, Bong Manayon, Maney Gomez, Fred Wasti, Robert
Batten, Alin Flaider, Tom Van Veen, Sid Barras, Delano Mireles, Flavio Minelli,
Gary L. Murphy, Michael Bromm, Yves Caudano, Jan van Wijk.

(Brian listed them here: http://pug.komkon.org/general/autosubmit.html )

I might be missing someone (my sincere apologies!), but from that list, only
Rob, Bong, and Jan seem to be participating in PDML and PUG.

I believe in the past year or two, I've seen some posts from Fred Wasti on some forum
(PF?) or in some social media, but I don't remember where, and I couldn't find any
"live" traces of him now.

I've already sent a personal e-mail to Boz Dimitrov on Saturday, but haven't
heard back, so, if someone can contact him as well, please do. (A single
unexpected e-mail can be easily lost in a flow of messages.)

Anybody else?

Igor

Stan,

Great! I didn't event attempt to produce a comprehensive list by myself.
I was relying on other PDMLers; just wanted to start the process.

I feel embarassed, but during the entire morning, my memory lapse refuses
to reveal the names of several former PDMLers...
The guy who, AFAIR drove his WV van from California all the

Other people whose names I am slowling pulling from my neuron network are:

Dear All,

While discussing the 20th anniversary PUG, we discussed with Brian that it
would be great to invite as many "old-timers" as possible - to participate in
this PUG.

I know that some PDMLers maintain connection with some of the former PDMLers
via social media (or at least know how to contact them).

I suggest that everybody who has any way of contacting them, would do that
ASAP (via all available channels), - inviting them to submit their photos to
this 20th anniversary PUG.

Please use this link:
http://pug.komkon.org/general/20th-anniversary.html
with the invitation for the anniversary PUG.

And now, after the break (some nerds might know the hidden message in this
song), some personal thoughts about old-timers.

I am sure people here remember past PDMLers, but I would try to recall at
least a few...

Batten, Alin Flaider, Tom Van Veen, Sid Barras, Delano Mireles, Flavio
Minelli, Gary L.

I believe in the past year or two, I've seen some posts from Fred Wasti on
some forum (PF?) or in some social media, but I don't remember where, and I
couldn't find any "live" traces of him now.

I've already sent a personal e-mail to Boz Dimitrov on Saturday, but haven't
heard back, so, if someone can contact him as well, please do. (A single
unexpected e-mail can be easily lost in a flow of messages.)

Anybody else?

Cheers,

Igor

Re: April PUG theme 20th anniversary

2017-03-05 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
I spent some time looking at the early PUGs, mostly to see what I uploaded
back then that might be appropriate for the 20th Anniversary PUG.

The main impressions I received, however, were:

1. How many entries there were 15 years or so ago.
2. The variety and quality of the entries.
3. How many names I recognized of posters 10-15 years ago who are
photographers that I really respected and persons whom I now really miss.

Is there any way we can reach out to these former PDMLers, and invite them
to rejoin us at least for the April 20th Anniversary PUG? I know that the
posts usually contained the emails being used at the time. Many may have
new emails now, but some of the old emails might still be active, and
others may be locatable through FaceBook or otherwise.

Does anyone else feel it might be worth the effort to reach out and try to
contact former members who used to be acttive posters to the PUG and this
list?

One of the positive aspects of the PUG for me over the years is that neither
the PUGmeisters nor others in PDML have worried too much about strict
interpretation of the monthly themes. Sometimes I have wished for a bit more
specificity, but it is good to be able to go off in my own direction without
too much worry about THE theme.

This might be a case where I wouldn’t mind more specificity, but the theme did
get me thinking. I have 3-4 ideas, two of which I may yet pursue.

When this theme was suggested last year, my first reaction was to think about
finding either my first or my favorite post to the PUG. Or maybe a photo from
one of those themes which made me push my limits a bit (like the equinox theme
where THE hour was well after dark and I didn’t do after dark shots…)

But then I thought about 20 years of PDML, most of which I have been here for.
I have learned a lot, I have been inspired and often humbled by the quality of
others’ work and the depth of their artistry. But then that is not all of it,
not even the most important for me. Beginning in the early 2000’s and a
photoday in Toronto facilitated by Frank and followed by equally memorable
gatherings with individuals and groups in Sydney and London and Naples and
Grandfather Mountain and Venice and Brighton and Chicago and Oslo and Jerusalem
and Aland and Milwaukee and… I have come to know many fine people. So one
thought I had was to do a photo collage of the pictures I have of those
gatherings. Idea rejected for several reasons including that I doubt if I can
find decent shots of everyone, and I don’t know how to make such a collage. And
besides, there have been as many virtual meetings as there have been actual
physical ones, so the face-to-face and corresponding photo to document it
doesn’t really capture the essence of PDML’s 20 years for me.

Another idea is to do a representative shot of some one or two PDMLers. I have
a couple in mind.

As you can see part of my dilemma is that I want my image to fit with the PUG
anniversary theme, but I would also like it to somehow capture the broader
essence of PDML. Or maybe I will just submit one of my favorite photos taken
sometime in the last 20 years. Que sera sera.

Yes, you're welcome. You will notice that it was immediately followed
by a revision posted by our esteemed PUGmeister, so my list in a no-
fly. Hard to figure how we are to handle the revision of the first two
months past. I suppose he could just re-title them on the PUG page.
And, to protect us from ourselves, the pdmlpug page cannot be copied
from, nor mailed to anyone.
