Re: Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes
I know what you mean about the 70-300 AF focusing. The manual focus version, alas, no longer made, was not nearly as bad mechanically. My MF version has developed some creep, though Mike Hamilton wrote: All I can say is wow. This is my first Takumar, and I'm simply amazed at the build quality of this lens.. I've sold my Sigma 70-300 zoom to pay for this, and I am infinitely happy that I did. I was never happy with that lens - the zoom ring was too stiff, the auto focus was noisy and couldn't focus very well, and the manual focus was too loose. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes
All I can say is wow. This is my first Takumar, and I'm simply amazed at the build quality of this lens. It (and the extension tubes) are in like new condition. Nary a scratch on the body or glass. Even the cases are in like new condition! I've sold my Sigma 70-300 zoom to pay for this, and I am infinitely happy that I did. I was never happy with that lens - the zoom ring was too stiff, the auto focus was noisy and couldn't focus very well, and the manual focus was too loose. All I can do now is wait for the screwmount adapter to arrive from Mr. Celio! I can't wait. -- Cheers, [EMAIL PROTECTED] MichaelHamilton.ca -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
RE: Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes
Hi Mike I'm sure that you will love the results. It may be a bit hard (dark) to focus the macro lens on a DSLR. I love some other Takumar M42 lenses as well, mainly the 35mm 3.5 and the 85 mm 1.8. Today I really missed a wide fixed lens on the K10D, reminds me that I have to test the Tamron SP 17mm 3.5 soon :-) greetings Markus -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Mike Hamilton Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2007 11:31 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes All I can say is wow. Welcome to the world of Pentax's pinnacle of lens series production. Now you know why I want a true M42 DSLR. To use those classics! BTW, this is a superb performance lens in the macro range, but nothing special at infinity, dont judge it by that jco -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mike Hamilton Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2007 6:31 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes All I can say is wow. RE: Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes
the beginning of the decline in build quality started with the very late SMC takmars (not to be confused with the earlier, Super-Multi-Coated takumars. IMHO, the Super-Multi-Coated takumars were the pinnacle of Pentax's lens production in terms of build quality. By the time they switched to K mount, they were aleady a notch down from their best in that regard, as these were essentially the same as the later, degraded, SMC taks jco -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Wilko Bulte Sent: Wednesday, March 14, 2007 7:04 PM To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List Subject: Re: Enablement: smc-Takumar 50mm f/4 macro w/ extension tubes On Wed, Mar 14, 2007 at 04:31:05PM -0600, Mike Hamilton wrote.. Perhaps it's my comparison to the lenses that I saw while looking through pawnshops today! Some of those are in truly horrid condition. Few of those lenses are worth putting on a camera, and the ones that are worthwhile are too expensive! :) -- Cheers, [EMAIL PROTECTED] MichaelHamilton.ca -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
